THE HEARST TOWER IS LOCATED AT 300 W 57th ST. NEW YORK, NY 10019 ON 8TH AVENUE NEAR COLUMBUS CIRCLE. IT IS THE HOME OF THE HEARST CORPORATION WHERE MAGAZINES LIKE COSMOPOLITAN AND SEVENTEEN ARE PUBLISHED. COMPLETED 2006

HISTORY

INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE BUILDING ORIGINALLY A SIX STORY BUILDING AND COMPLETELY IN 1928 AT ALL TOTAL COST OF $2 MILLION. THE CAST STONE FACADE HAS BEEN KEPT AS PART OF THE DESIGN OF THE HEARST TOWER ENABLING THE SIX STORY STRUCTURE TO MAINTAIN ITS LANDMARK HISTORY. IT WAS ALSO ORIGINIALLY MEANT TO BE THE BASE OF A POTENTIAL FUTURE SKYSCRAPER. THE BASE WAS KNOWN AS THE INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE BUILDING.

HEARST TOWER WAS THE FIRST OCCUPIED GREEN COMMERCIAL BUILDING IN THE CITY TO RECEIVE A GOLD RATING UNDER THE LEADERSHIP IN ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN (LEED) BY THE U.S. GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL. IN 2012, IT BECAME THE FIRST BUILDING TO UPGRADE TO A PLATINUM RATING FOR EXISTING BUILDINGS. - HEARST CORPORATION
