Mkalles Workshop Building DESIGN DEVELOPMENT AND DETAIL DESIGN IN BIM | 2016 - Ongoing Client: Mkalles 213 S.A.L. Area: 10000 mq This was a case study for my office: for the first time the use of BIM from initial design development to the final stages allowed us to control many aspects that would not have been possible with a normal 2D CAD project, and to explore all the opportunities given by REVIT and Dynamo. In line with the construction plot shape and the limits imposed by regulations, the most efficient shape for the building is a rectangle, oriented so as to optimize use of the available space. Since it was a workshop/office building, flexibility was fundamental. Starting from the site itself, the modularity of column and beam heights/lengths (based on a 9 x 9m grid) permitted the adoption of the most efficient solution, taking account of all the basic rules and the client’s requests. The resulting building is 100m long, 18m wide, and has a total height of 12m, in line with local regulations. In fact, not all of the potentially buildable area was used, but the grid and the construction are organized in such a way that in the future it might be possible to enlarge the building (2nd phase).

Refurbishment and restyling of Allianz’s HQ DESIGN DEVELOPMENT, DETAIL DESIGN AND INTERIOR DESIGN | 2014 - Ongoing Client: Allianz SpA Area: 60000 mq
The project to redevelop the property owned by Allianz is an emblematic case of important, intricate redevelopment work (deep retrofitting) that has various different aspects: functional-organisational reassessment, modernising of the architectural image to provide a better idea of the company’s vision and values, creation of a stimulating and functional working environment, and general upgrading of the building’s energy ratings - from the efficiency of the building skin system to a minimising of energy consumption by the active terminal/production systems.

Landscape enhancement C.O.V.A. Eni SAIPEM
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT | 2014-2015 Client: ENI spa / SAIPEM Spa Area: 18 ha
The project of landscaping and architectural mitigation was born from the awareness that the implant can give a new form to the context from the physical, social, economical and cultural aspect. The intervention has been developed through a complex design defined by different functional fields, each with a clear identity but part of the same unitary system. The result is a range of different realities that create a new cultural and productive landscape. The Artistic Mile of Raymundo Sesma is creative project that revaluates the borders along 1800 meters. The project is able to redefine the surroundings from an aesthetic and functional aspect. The green design has the role of mediator between the architecture and the surrounding landscape. It improves the perception of the context and enhances biodiversity and site specific wildlife. The proposed design for the new Lavazza Headquarters and renovation of the former Enel power station shows a profound appreciation for the history of Turin and for the neighbourhood, as well as for the coffee company’s history and culture. The large existing has been redesigned and opened to the city, while the documented industrial architecture have been preserved. The heart of the project is a new, expansive treeplanted piazza in the centre of the block positioned on the axis of Via Parma, which makes the large building of the former Enel power station enter into a dialogue with the new headquarters of Lavazza. The office building, which communicates with the city through the extensive glazed atrium overlooking Via Bologna and the new green square, takes the form of a large “cloud“ which unites the different façades and the industrial buildings, which have been preserved and converted to new functions.

The precarious urban settlements present in all developing countries are a terrible 20th and 21st century reality. Urbanization interventions in these areas offer an enormous opportunity for integration and social justice. Another aspect not to be underestimated is that an urbanized musseque bears witness to the operation of a distinctive physical construction process over time, and is of cultural and architectural importance. Local climate and traditions are the factors that determine the planning approach to a town-planning assignment, which must be economically feasible and respond to immediate needs without imperilling the same opportunity for future generations. Moreover, putting it into practice effectively requires negotiation that involves a strong political will on the part of the administrative bodies concerned, those who live in the musseque and the other inhabitants – that is, participatory planning is necessary.
16
Another aspect taken into consideration is the dynamic process of family growth, which is typical in this social context. Thanks to the building system chosen, using nonload-bearing earthen walls, this process is not hindered – indeed, it is foreseen.

Lisbon story: a selection of works PROAP | 2013 During my Erasmus Placement experience at Proap, I participated in many competitions and projects: a temporary art installation, private house gardens, public parks and large-scale urbanization plans in various parts of the world. In these pages I have selected the three most significant projects.

The aim of the course, born of a collaboration between Brescia University, the IUAV and the Società Agricola Fratelli Ferro of Rosolina, was to study the possibilities and expectations of development of the Moceniga area through sustainable tourism. Although it might seem one, the site studied is not a natural enclave, but is completely artificial and was created in this water-dominated landscape. The coursework required that each student designed in outline a natural park, a dispersed hotel facility, a study centre and a large museum dedicated to water. Particular attention was given to study of the locality, the project’s environmental and economic sustainability, and communication with visitors.

SURVEY OF ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY | 2011 Prof. Archt. Ivana Passamani Archt. Luigi Chirone
Palazzo Franchi - Zanardelli: survey of an historical building
The study focussed on Palazzo Franchi Zanardelli, a mid-18th century building with a distinctive facade that links two roads and seems to continue inside the courtyard of another nearby mansion. The study and background research was conducted in the Brescia State Archive and Architecture Superintendency offices, and then continued with an architectural survey of the building facades, the ground floor and part of the first floor. After preparation of the plans and elevations, the perspective lines were analysed using 3D modelling and simplified depictions of the building’s structural basis.

Shaping the future of Darfo Boario: a 25 m2 house ARCHITECTURAL MORPHOLOGY, TYPOLOGY AND ARRANGEMENT | 2009 Prof. Archt. Massimiliano Botti Archt. Genny Celeghini The work I undertook called for the design of small-sized buildings (18-25 m2) to be used as temporary accommodation by visitors. Because of the very small area available, the study required precise design of functional systems and the adoption of space-use strategies that exploited every corner. Great importance was also given to the careful design of construction methods and timing, and the judicious use of materials and local natural resources, so that the buildings had as little ecological impact as possible.

Worksite: a passion through the years 2010 | 2017
My professional goal is to spend as much time as possible on construction sites, so as to see the work I’m involved in taking shape. From when I was at university I’ve always tried to visit as many as possible – such as the Brescia underground, EXPO 2015, the Shard in London, and the skyscrapers designed by Zaha Hadid and Arata Isozaki that are nearing completion in Milan.
