They can deploy IOTs in strategic locations and generate actionable data for the authorities to determine the trigger of growth. Not only IOT technology can help the meteorological department of the countries but also other departments in the city administration. It can help the department which is for city lights, water system, drainage, etc. In this issue, we have brought out a lot of coverage on the applications of SDN, which is attracting a lot of investment from the market. The other thing, which we are covering in this issue is the CIO Select Awards 2019, which is a new endevour for Enterprise IT World. We are optimistic to take it to next level in coming times. Thank you very much Happy Reading this issue and Wish you a Happy and Prosperous Diwali 2019!
Dear Friends.
You love it or hate it, but this Diwali too, there will be firecracker celebration all around - further deteriorating the air condition in the urban India. We have been suffering from a very bad air quality in the cities for a long time. Now with the government initiative of making the cities smart, we are trying to bring safety and security to the citizens. But the element of nature, which is beyond our control, is very difficult to control but surely, we can eliminate the chances of enhanced pollution by the help of AI and automation. The meteorological department of India or even various states can curb it based on their experience. They can utilize the AI into the existing data collected form past years and the run AI into it and the department can bring in right solution about the chances of the decreasing pollution. They can pin point the location where maximum pollution gets generated for whatever reasons and with the help of AI they can suggest actionable plans to the city administration.

RARITAN // INTERVIEW
RARITAN LEVERAGING THE TRENDS IN THE DATA CENTRE MARKET
Anjani Kommisetti, Country Manager, India & SAARC, Raritan & Servertech talks about the evolving trends in the Data Centre market and how they are impacting their business. What are the key trends around Data Centre and distributed environments in India? The Indian data centre industry is passing through an interesting phase. Increase in Smart users and digitisation is increasing the use of smart applications which is in turn leading to trends like Big Data, Data analytics, Data mining etc. Hence, demand for high power Data centres in trend and the challenge is to accommodate more data in less space which means more computing per rack hence, more power per rack. All the challenges need to be addressed while achieving the cost reduction by optimising the rack. The dynamics of the changing marketplace, where IT is not just a business enabler but a key player that provides a huge competitive edge, is prompting companies to be more agile in dealing with the growth of their IT infrastructure. CIOs must not only think of technology, but also in terms of consumer behaviour and consumer access points to see how one can adapt and modify their infrastructure to deal with the changing marketplace. Today, CIOs are forced to optimize their data centre infrastructure to the hilt in every aspect be it power, storage, real estate, etc. There are various tools that are available to help optimize the data centre in every aspect. What are your growth and expansion plans to harness these trends? Vertical Expansion was the phrase coined by Raritan which allows data centre managers to pack more computing power in one rack. It also achieves high compute density by bringing 3-phase power to the rack; these are deployed at the rack level which then provide single phase power to all the IT equipment. This packs in
more power to the rack and frees up excess space which can be used for expansion at a later date, as and when required. So, vertical expansion will increase computer density and help in saving cost. In India, customers are now beginning to realise the benefits of vertical expansion and it has been a learning curve for them. Industry verticals, such as, IT, BFSI, healthcare, telecom, e-commerce companies, besides government departments are experiencing exponential expansion of data centre requirements and stand to gain the most from vertical expansion. Can you brief us about your portfolio of products and services that you offer? Raritan, a brand of Legrand, has been in the Indian market for close to three decades. Our first focus was on making it possible to manage, fix and troubleshoot servers and network devices from remote locations, and then we moved on to creating power distribution units for more efficient functioning of data centres. Now, Raritan has made these PDU’s ‘intelligent’ through connectivity and Artificial Intelligence to an extent that they can help identify any changes in power trends, environmental changes, remote management capability, Security to racks through Smart locks, Asset management. Being part of Legrand today our services include racks, data cabling, Busbar, UPS setup, power distribution of the data centre, remote management tools, etc. Raritan’s data centre power products include rack power distribution units (rack PDUs), inline meters, transfer switches, and branch circuit monitoring systems. Leveraging advanced embedded Xerus Technology Platform, all Raritan power distribution products improve uptime and availability by making power management devices easier to deploy, control,
and manage remotely across multiple locations. Natively compatible with DCIM software, Raritan power distribution products allow you to easily scale new environmental monitoring and access control devices as well as gather actionable insights for quicker, smarter decision making. How is the burgeoning BFSI space adding to the growth of data centres? In the BFSI sector, there is a decent amount of consolidation – both in private and public banks. There are numerous legacy systems and it will continue to go for a long time. Our solutions help them to work with legacy systems and help them integrate with new-age systems. The size of the data centre is decreasing, but the volume of data is increasing – either you take container based, rackspace or micro data centre. How is the growth of cloud business impacting Raritan? Cloud is increasingly being used by business organisations across industry verticals. Most of the companies with in-house data centres are shifting a part of their data centre into public data centre space and cloud is one of them. This has driven us to market our solutions to public players along with private customers, thus making cloud also our customer. As a cloud service provider, one needs to optimize the operational expenses to ensure services are more competitive in the market with earning more revenues from the existing services. This is where Raritan specialises in and delivers solutions that bring about utmost customer satisfaction. What can organizations do to increase the efficiency of their data centre? Raritan fundamentally provides tools for optimising efficiency in data centres. Our solutions are designed to help CIOs and data centre managers meet the growing needs of data expansion and cost optimisation. The reality is that every data centre has excess capacity in terms of space, power, cooling etc. The challenge is to accurately identify where and how much? Our solutions help identify these. So, when the need comes for expansion, the DC manager can easily utilise existing infrastructure thereby reducing the capex and opex for the expansion project. The energy management solutions place an emphasis on reliable power distribution, power metering, and remote management. They help enterprises to manage existing power capacity better and save energy besides supporting in environmental monitoring.

THE ROLE OF SDN IN NETWORK TRANSFORMATION Complementing the revolutionary changes in the Storage and Computing structures, Networking is undergoing its own transformation in its shift from the traditional network architecture to a Software Defined Network. SDN, with its advantages over the traditional network, is in tune with the Digital Transformative tendencies of the enterprises. BY POOJA JAIN POOJA@ACCENTINFOMEDIA.COM
M
odern Technology is a step towards Virtualization. Through the last couple of decades, there has been a systematic movement away from the Hardware, towards a Software-centric approach to technology. This is majorly a result of the Internet and the prism of capabilities it has added to the traditional enterprise. Enterprises are drawn by the flexible, agile and scalable tendencies of the software based solutions and are therefore, eager to adapt and adopt. The Softwarization of technology has permeated the industry at all levels. The Storage Infrastructure, for instance, witnessed the transformation of the Data Centre into the Cloud, Hybrid or the Multi Cloud setting. Technologies like Edge Computing and Internet of Things, on the other hand, are blurring the lines between Hardware and Software. Similarly, the Networking Architecture has not remained unaffected by this wave of Digital Transformation. The traditional network architecture was a complex structure of physical switches and routers that required to be manually configured. The traditional networking infrastructure had a complex, static architecture with multiple protocols that dealt with different segments of the network. This complicated the process of scaling up or down, and moving the network. An inconsistency in the systems located at multiple locations with no centralized control, was another limitation of the traditional networking infrastructure. All this and more contributed to the traditional networking architecture falling short of the changing requirements of the evolving modern enterprises.
THE EMERGENCE OF SDN The Cloud Revolution has pervaded all segments of the industries. Cloud has
re-defined Computing, Storage and Infrastructure. To integrate Networking Architecture with the Digital Transformation of the enterprise, the traditional network that was designed in and for a pre-digitization, pre-cloud era had to be re-constituted as well. To give an example, in order to leverage Automation in Networking, the traditional network infrastructure had to be substituted by a software based system. It is under these circumstances that Software Defined Networking (SDN) came into the picture and initiated the Network Transformation. SDN effectively separated the forwarding plane from the controlling plane in network architecture, thereby providing a software based approach to managing the data flow within the network. This approach substituted the traditional network by centralizing the control of the network. This offered flexibility and a high degree of scalability, where previously was a need for separate configuration for each device on the network. Functional separation, Automation through programmability and Network Virtualization are some of the focus areas of SDN. The Data Centres were the first to adopt the SDN capabilities as a solution to their networking requirements. VMWare, Cisco, Juniper Networks, for instance, were at the forefront of SDN adoption. Apart from the Cloud providers, Telecom providers also heralded the Transformation.

SDN centralizes the control of the network to a single system. This streamlines the flow within the network. The SDN Controller then becomes a central point from where Security, Policies, Maintenance, Management, and all other crucial aspects can be controlled and consistently distributed throughout the enterprise network. Centralized control eliminates all other points of access, thereby securing the network which previously had multiple entry points which increased the chances of a security breach. Centralized security is perhaps, the key advantage that draws the enterprise towards the SDN technology. Adoption of SDN technology reduces operating costs and capital expenditures. It authorizes the network operator to shape and control the data traffic, which enhances the quality of the services offered. The ability to selectively direct the data flow opens the possibilities for automating the processes. SDN creates a framework that structurally supports data-intensive applications like Big Data and Automation.
TRANSFORMED NETWORKING INFRASTRUCTURE “SDN is fast becoming an integral part of the enterprise network strategy with almost 65% of organizations having already deployed or are planning to deploy a SDN in their campus, branch offices and Data Centers in the next 18

“The intelligence of SD-WAN enables the networking of identify mission
critical data flows to ensure they take the most efficient path at any given time resulting in increased performance.”
ARUN SUBASH MANICKAM DIRECTOR, R&D, VELOCLOUD
“There are three key reasons that have lead to the significant growth in the market for SDN and SD-WAN. Firstly, the immense
complexity that existed in data centres and enterprise branches with dependence on hardware for different functions that was expensive and hard to deploy, manage and support. Secondly, the inability of traditional network architecture to support migration to the cloud. And thirdly, the need for improving application performance, especially real time applications as they increasingly became business critical. All these can be overcome with software defined technologies at a much lower total cost of operations.” months,” states IDC. SDN comes as a best possible solution in accordance with the current technology, as the service providers strive to maintain such levels of network capabilities that allows them to smoothly accommodate the burgeoning number of users on the network. Another factor that comes into play is the increasing mobility among the enterprises that requires easy accessibility for streamlined operations. The Capex and Opex cost reducing capabilities of SDN solutions is another key force behind the high demand of SDN in the market. In the context of IoT, for instance, as the Internet of Things is materializing into an enterprise reality, there is an immense pressure on the network administrators to accommodate the increased number of devices/users on the network, without compromising the quality of the bandwidth. IoT, then makes it essential for any organization to have a software defined networking system, before it ventures on to adopting IoT.
As far as Cloud Computing is concerned, the last decade has witnessed a foundational shift in Computing. Servers have been steadily replaced by virtualized Cloud Data Centers which offered a greater degree of flexibility and scalability at considerably lower costs and maintenance. As the organizations took to operating on Cloud and Multi-cloud environments, they required a stable, reliable and secure network system to support the movement of their mission critical workloads to the cloud. This is where SDN and SD-WAN offer the solutions that the traditional networking architecture could not. “In the first phase, the key value proposition of SD-WAN was to provide a way to better performance of cloud applications independent of underlying transport, and automate the deployment and management of WAN in distributed enterprises from a central location. However, the scope of SD-WAN has increased significantly with the advent of Edge Computing, IoT and Cloud Computing. As the number of devices in
the network increase exponentially, especially with IoT devices, there is a need for computing to shift back to the network edge because many of these devices are in remote locations, so that decisions can be made at the edge rapidly and in a reliable manner. In this landscape, the benefits of SD-WAN, namely automation, assured performance and reliable connectivity can play a key role in supporting the growth of such networks,” said Arun Subash Manickam, Director, R&D, Velocloud. Along with the increasing rate of adoption of SDN, IDC predicts that SD-WAN adoption will hit the $8 billion mark by 2021. In line with SDN, SD-WAN accrues advantages like improved network resiliency, enhanced application performance and huge cost savings to name a few. Enumerating the advantages of adopting SD-WAN, Vijay Jayaraman, Director - System Engineering, India & SAARC, Citrix, said, “Connecting to any of the clouds has become easier and secure using SD-WAN links, and flexibility, automated cloud connectivity, inter-networking and security are some of the benefits that SD-WAN offers.”
FINALLY… As the next-gen technologies are hitting the market, each segment of the industry is evolving with it. Networking, being one of the key domains is venturing forth into Digital Transformation riding on the SDN and SD-WAN as the new age network infrastructures. The foundational change in the networking architecture opens up the space for the adoption of other technologies like Big Data, IoT and Automation, thereby putting it up on an equal footing with other segments like Storage and Computing. And so, the enterprise evolves as a whole. OCTOBER 2019 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD

IT Challenges in Healthcare: • Use of technology to improve overall network performance • Transformation of the business to align with the Consumerization of Medicine • More & More Data Sources are Emerging & managing strategies • Leveraging of technology to ensure a competitive advantage • Federal Privacy requirements change • Eliminating network blind spots resulting from mergers and acquisitions • More mobility, more problems • IT cost going up • Minimizing security breaches, reduce cyber theft, and increase patient privacy. IT Threats in Healthcare: Consumerization and the need to be competitive are key drivers for the healthcare industry. Cloud networks, IoT, BYOD, telemedicine, and other new technologies are driving change in the healthcare system. Consumer Mobility A big area of interest for healthcare institutions is the consumerization trend in which information is being collected and made available to mobile and web-based devices. For instance, hospitals are now embracing bring your own device (BYOD) for healthcare professionals and support the use of patient accessible Wi-Fi. Instant communication is necessary to ensure quality care for patients, which makes network accessibility incredibly important. The downside is that all of these devices contain operating systems that are vulnerable to hacking and infection, leaving the hospital’s network largely exposed. Consumer Error User errors pose other security threats for healthcare systems. When a patient accesses medical records through a portal, their private information is in their hands. Once they store files in unprotected folders on their computer or email results to family, they create an easy way in for hackers and infections. Network Blind Spots Company mergers and acquisitions (M&A’s) between hospitals and clinics is also creating network integration issues. Blind spots are areas where IT does not have complete visibility into what is happening on the network or how applica-
tions are behaving. Mergers between IT systems for any organization, especially healthcare systems, take time. Security Emerging new technologies have also created new security risks. Specifically, security breaches resulting in the theft of personally identifiable information (PII) are expanding. In addition, hospitals and clinics are targeted by hacking, ransomware. But the problems for healthcare IT are not just centred on security. The wealth of private and personal information within healthcare systems makes the industry an inherent target for hacking. The files and information they house make them a goldmine for determined hackers. Weak security systems can leave an entire hospital system very vulnerable. IT Solutions in Healthcare: So, how does IT overcome these challenges? How well individual IT organizations can leverage these technology changes will ultimately determine their success. Patient’s in-hand control Technology give patient’s better access to knowledge and advice, but it also puts more power in their own hands. There is a growing trend of different IT applications that pull patients further into the medical process. Through computer technology, they can be provided resources to learn more about their condition, opportunities to take more involvement in the treatment decisions, and tools for optimizing their health. Productive Team Technology is often looked to for the possibility to create a more efficient, productive workforce, and in this area, healthcare IT doesn’t disappoint. For example, mobile devices are becoming powerful tools in the hands of hospital staff & doctors these days. They are perfect for constantly communicating with each other on the run around the premises, and there are some great healthcare applications that can be used to easily fill out forms, double-check information, or carry out other admin tasks. Also tap into online resources, like videos and professional articles, to learn more about their field, make medical decisions, or educate clients and patients. Increased Accessibility One of the biggest trends in healthcare IT right
now is telemedicine. Computers and the internet make it easier than ever for care providers to stay in touch with patients who are at home. This not only limits unnecessary office traffic, minimizing bottlenecks, but it also provides more comfort and convenience for patients. Network Visibility Visibility architecture is the first place to startsee what monitoring data is needed, where to collect the data from, and how to pass that data to monitoring and security tools. Visibility architectures typically result in the addition of taps and network packet brokers to capture and filter the monitoring data. Once you do this, you have the data needed to reduce/eliminate many security and performance related issues. This includes visibility into potential network and application problems as a result ability to improve the performance of healthcare networks. Network Assessments This includes network security testing, Wi-Fi network testing, and both wireless and wired performance testing. Testing your solutions will help you overcome your challenges. Best practice is to deploy the right technology to replace outdated, manual processes. The best prescription is to deploy test solutions that run automated test cases for either on-demand or scheduled use cases. Minimal Errors The right tech planning can greatly reduce instances of medical error, keeping patients safe and protecting your organization from lawsuits.Electronic medical records, for instance, consolidate all a patient’s medical information in one place, whereas in the past they may have had different files with a range of different providers throughout the city or even country. Other technologies that can reduce error include computerized discharge prescriptions, “smart” intravenous devices, automated pharmacies, and bar coding. Improved Security A lack of planning means that far too much is left up to chance, and one of the areas that take the biggest hit when that happens is data security. Nowhere is data security more important than in the healthcare industry; in fact, the government requires a certain level of responsibility on the part of providers, and if expectations are not met, your practice can be held financially responsible and subjected to heavy fines.

THE CASE OF JUDICIARY’S FALSE POSITIVE? CYBERSECURITY TECHNIQUES & PRINCIPLES CAN HELP!
BY SANJAY@ACCENTINFOMEDIA.COM
Co-relating cybersecurity and judiciary with respect to ‘False-Positives’ and ‘False-Negatives’, Ravikishor Mundada explores the techniques and principles that can help decision-making in this scenario. In India, we don’t have a dearth of scale and numbers to demonstrate the use-case of latest technologies, neither there is a scarcity for use cases itself to try out little new technologies in AI, IoT and Cybersecurity and the combinations thereof that can have tremendous positive effects. One such thought – Why Can’t Our Judiciary Use the ‘Techniques of False Positive’ to build the speed at scale for disposal of remaining ‘False Negative’ cases that have been aging over generations? I have personally experienced how the existing system is taking over 14 years to decide on a simple case that was ‘False-Positive’. Many of you may have witnessed it in some or other context. I think, it has become a social pain and national concern that requires some healing from the Cyber-Technologies and emerging domain of CyberSecurity. To make my point bit easier to understand Firstly, we have the BIG acknowledged Problem of the Piled up cases at National Level Courts and State Level Courts, Quasi-Judicial Authorities and Crime Convictions / Investigation Authorities, with unreasonable aging. For example, 14 years to decide on a simple matter of lost document by the bank! Secondly, we have the real problem of some anti-social elements that are making serious trouble in the systems for the remaining majority of peace-loving citizens. Through false-legalclaims, forged-cases, and now leveraging the technology & social media to bring a compounding effect to the trouble-making. These criminal mindsets need to be dealt with for wrong-doing
20 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD OCTOBER 2019
and be convicted under the law-of-land. These false cases comprise the major chunk of the piled-up cases - the main issue of this discussion - where it becomes difficult for the authorities to decide who is right and what is correct, in the midst of claims and counterclaims and allegations and counter-allegations – which goes on for years. The typical court drama for even a simple straight forward case of the lost document (False-Positive) that is irrecoverable, unfolds over 14 years to decide. So, one can imagine the different shades and multitude of issues and drama-thereof being played every day – indecisively for all such ‘False-Positive’ cases being dragged for years. If you are wondering what is False-Positive and False-Negative, then consider this... When in a situation, you raise an alarm or warn about a perceived threat. A threat has a potential to harm – either yourself, business, resources or infrastructure. You are in a situation and being part of the system, the system shall respond based on the threat levels designed related to the alarm and a couple of other co-relations for the given situation. This response can land into an emergency response situation – sort of Red Alert or the response can be analyzed to be a falsealarm, trigged by innocuous or deliberate action. So, a ‘false positive’ is where you receive a positive result of the alarm-warning (or test-outcome) which can actually land into a situation that needs to be dealt with like fire-fighting. Whereas a ‘false negative’ is a false alarm that needs to be controlled as quickly as possible, else
it can create a systematic burden on the resources. Resources thus wasted on dealing with falsealarms (false-negative) could have been avoided at an early stage – through the right level of screening and carefully analyzing the issues at the source itself, albeit with required diligence and care. In the Cyber-World and CyberSecurity parlance, these two terms - ‘False-Positive’ and ‘False-Negative’ are the primary mechanism to wade through the millions of events happening every day in the Large IT Systems and to bring up only the relevant events which truly demands the high-end resource for further processing. Now, in the context of the judiciary system, if these principles of CyberSecurity domain are applied, it would tremendously help on many counts. The system can thereby reduce the burden on the judiciary to much-much-less. I personally think it will bring down the open-case numbers to less-than half over next couple of years. By applying these techniques of CyberSecurity Domain and Implementing the underlying technologies of AI/ML, ARP, Microservice, and others, now it is possible to harness its power for real cause. However, it requires careful consideration of the Digital Transformation in the judiciary system. To enable such implementations which are directly contributing to their business goals with expected and measurable outcomes for resolving the cases. Cybersecurity Techniques and technology principles can help the case of the judiciary to address the case of False-Positive.

Enterprises today are facing a lot of crisis while coming to the marketing and communications because there is a strong upswing in the consumption of digital content? What are your views on this? With the advent of Internet, web and new digital technologies the approach to marketing has transformed. Internet offers the digital consumer a wide range of choices, convenience to select and buy at a price that’s comfortable to them. This apart, with the growth of smartphones, tablets combined with seamless availability of wireless and broadband (wired) networks have given them choice to buy products and services from their mobile devices. For enterprises (both B2B, B2C) the new technology platforms allow them access to consumers cutting across geographical barriers. Consumption patterns are changing from Gen ‘X’ to Gen ‘Z.’ Marketeers need to take cognizance of this behavioral seismic shift as Gen ‘Y’ and Gen ‘Z’ are major consumers of digital content. It is imperative to shift the right gears to align with the changing ‘digital consumer tastes, needs and mind-set and ‘Re-invent’ themselves to appeal and attract the ‘digital customer’ through intelligent personalization and enhanced buying experience. All touchpoints should be mapped to attract, generate the interest and ensure the purchase decision is made in the marketeers favor. Can you enumerate the challenges faced by the marketeers? In the digital age, reaching, attracting, engaging a prospective digital consumer and converting them to a paying customer is an ongoing challenge as the internet offers a multitude of choices to consumers. Further, acquiring new customers, budget wastage, attributing sales revenues to 22 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD OCTOBER 2019
marketing, target market segmentation, delivering improved customer experience, integrating data across platforms, ensuring data integrity, disparate data, difficulty in leveraging data from various sources, achieving alignment with the targeted segments, increasing marketing ROI, quantifying marketing contribution, reducing cost of customer acquisition and enhancing marketing efficiency are the key challenges faced marketeers today. How can Marketing Automation along with AI-ML help scale up the marketing activities? Marketing Automation will help simplify processes, enhance marketing efficiencies, uncover high quality qualified revenue opportunities, execute laser-sharp and precise marketing campaigns, automate content creation based on intelligence and improving dark social sharing. Varied ways to by which both AI and ML can be leveraged in marketing include ML based PPC campaigns, ML driven content campaigns, predictive (marketing) data modeling, AI driven personalized campaigns based on customer interests and preferences etcetera. Netflix is reported to have prevented $1 billion revenue loss through ML driven personalized recommendations. Amazon too managed to size its shipping time to 15 minutes due to ML. Automation combined with ML and AI can robotize marketing activities and use compute power and crunch data round the clock. RPA is playing a key role in optimizing positioning of marketing messages with the targeted segments (consumers) with 90% success, and driving revenue driven conversations with 85% success. In fact, by 2030 it is my belief that 95% of all marketing activities will be performed by
‘Marketing Robots.’ Majority of human processes shall be eliminated, human marketers will be replaced by automated processes through RPA combined with AI, ML and DL. The ‘Marketing Robots’ will be self-learning, intelligent and make the most prudent marketing decisions on how to attract customers, how to maximize the marketing spends to achieve the business goals. What is the role of technology in alleviating challenges? Technology is helping achieve personalization, improved customer experience, price/product optimization, marketing resource(s) optimization, predictive analytics, eliminate marketing anomalies and gain the much desired competitive advantage. It can help understand attitudinal shifts, buy patterns, enhance customer loyalty/ CLV, perform sentiment analysis, media performance monitoring, competitive analysis, enhance brand value, connect consumers and products/ services most optimally. What are your views on finding the right challenges? In medical science, early diagnosis of a disease is key to the patient’s survival. Similarly, early ‘Marketing diagnosis’ helps uncover the ‘right marketing challenges’ such as a website not converting as many visitors into paying customers, poor customer experience, inability to obtain qualified leads, marketing non alignment, consumers not responding to marketing offers etc. Hence, ‘Marketing Diagnosis’ uncovering the ‘right marketing challenges’ act as a guide to aid marketeers to overcome these very challenges by deploying the right technology and/or right strategy at the right time for the right business outcome.

CIO SELECT AWARDS
MAPPING THE TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP LANDSCAPE WITH CIO SELECT AWARDS 2019 Enterprise IT World conducted a survey among the Indian CIOs to map out the Indian Technology Leadership Landscape. This survey represents the makeup of the Indian marketscape and the positioning of different brands within it. The results of the survey were celebrated with the CIO Select Product Awards Ceremony held in Goa on 20th September 2019. BY POOJA JAIN POOJA@ACCENTINFOMEDIA.COM

hat we are witnessing today in the form of the next gen technologies reshaping all industries and reconstituting enterprises’ functions, is a manifestation of the Industrial Revolution 4.0., Cloud Computing, AI, ML, DL, IoT, Edge Computing, RPA, etc. are occupying the centre stage as the enterprises endeavour to keep up with the evolving technology trends. To assist and enable the organizations in their journey towards Digital Transformation, the Vendor Community is growing at an unprecedented rate. The number of vendors in the industry have increased manifold owing to the StartUp revolution, and there has been a subsequent expansion in the portfolio of services and solutions offered by them. The big market players that have earlier dominated a single market, have now expanded their operations and by doing so, incorporated multiple domains within their portfolio. In response to the big players monopolising a large chunk of the market, there has been an eruption of StartUps to challenge the position previously enjoyed by their long-established counterparts. This has compelled the enterprises to re-think the way they habitually approached the big market players, as they now have a wider base of vendors to select their service and solution providers from. Enterprise IT World identifies this dilemma faced by the organizations as they struggle to find 42 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD OCTOBER 2019
the brand that would best fulfil the requirements of their organization. Leveraging its position as a reliable media house in the Information and Technology industry, Enterprise IT World conducted a survey to map the Indian Technology Leadership Landscape. The CIO Select Product Survey provided a platform for the CIO community to vote for their choice of brands. Over thousand CIOs from all the major industry verticals – Manufacturing, Retail, Hospitality, Healthcare, Education, Oil and Gas, BFSI, etc. participated in the survey. The survey, aiming to paint a holistic picture of the Indian Technology Marketscape was open to CIOs PAN India. Maximum participation was seen from the CIO community of Mumbai. Close to 35 per cent of the respondents were based out of Mumbai. Participation from other metro cities followed with Delhi at 21 per cent, Bengaluru at 12 per cent and Kolkata at a mere 6 per cent. Besides this, Pune and Ahmedabad marked 5 per cent and 4.5 per cent participation respectively. The survey served the dual purpose of revealing the market positioning of the brands in the technology marketscape, while simultaneously pitching the results of the survey as guiding sign posts for the fellow CIOs as they navigate the technology vendor market. The results of the survey, unbiased and unaffected by any thirdparty influence, offers the credibility that CIOs demand as they explore their options in the market before making up their minds about a
particular brand. Enterprise IT World awarded the leading brands as demonstrated by the survey results, with the CIO Select Awards 2019. The awards were hosted on 20th September 2019 at Hotel Le Meridian, Goa. The award ceremony, conducted on a pleasant evening in North Goa, saw a gathering of over 200 people including CIOs, partners, principles and consultants. Senior industry experts from the industry came forward to award their choice of brands in recognition of their exceptional services and innovative solutions. While Dell EMC led the Enterprise Storage Solution category, it seemed to have lost its lead in the x86 Server category to HPE. Fortinet turned out to be the leader in the UTM brands category. Canon, on the other hand, bagged the award for the Leading Scanner brand, and closely followed HP Inc. in the Printing Solutions Category. CA Technologies, Tableau, Microsoft Exchange, Sophos, IceWarp, Veeam, AWS, Salesforce, Schneider Electric, Symantec, Commvault, SAP, Nutanix, VMWare, IBM Security, D-Link, Polycom, and Cisco were the other brands that had been voted the best solution providers in their respective categories. The award ceremony drew to a close with a gala cocktail dinner, as the vendors and the CIOs came together in an informal setting next to the Calangute beach.

ALARIS E1035 SCANNER
ALARIS E1035 Scanner is one of the latest additions to the smart scanners Alaris family. A lot of trade people were talking about the efficiency of the scanner but as they say the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Therefore, we wanted to test the scanner and check its true efficiency. From the outset - with its box packing, the scanner gives an impression of being small in its footprint, which is true. It does not occupy much of the table space, however, with the full extension of its input and output tray easily accommodates the papers of all sizes - below legal paper till your credit cards. If it is not in operation you can push back all the extensions and keep it in a corner. This machine is absolutely user friendly… just plug into the power point and input documents, it stars firing. The tiny LED indicator along with buttons for operation are good enough for consistent scanning. As the name suggests E1035, the scanner is a 35-ppm machine, which is good enough for a small or medium size company. The good thing about the scanner is that it is quite rugged as it can take 4000 pages per day as per the user manual, however an organization does this much of volume per day, unless a large digitization project is taking place. So, when we opened up and started scanning documents, we tried various types of documents including A4 normal documents, A4 handwritten documents, documents in transparent papers, colour documents, ID cards, visiting cards, credit cards, etc. in the first attempt we could not get good results but in the second attempt with some twigging in the software, the output was amazing. The software called Perfect Page Technology which may be a patented technology of this scanner really optimizes the image quality. On top of it, you can save scanned documents in various image formats in various source connected to the network and send mails to various mailboxes. You can customize the software or mail messaging activities either from your laptop or from the display, depending upon your convincing. But I will suggest use the bigger display (your laptop), which I used for my convenience. With this scanner the digital document is much better as it can capture the smallest details accurately by filtering out streaks. Apart from the PPM and capacity, the feeder tray can take upto 80 sheets of 80 g/m2 paper and can handle small documents such as A8, ID cards, embossed hard cards and insurance cards. As per the manual, the paper input is 27- 200 g/m2 paper; ID thickness up to 1.4 mm. Alaris E 1035’s intelligent exception handling maximizes process efficiency with accurate capture at the point of customer interaction. Alaris E 1035’s intelligent software determines if the scanner can detect patch sheets. If it cannot, it’s processed in the software. When the software encounters a feature patch sheet, it switches to the appropriate job; scanner profile setup and then continues scanning. It can automatically optimize barcode processing to provide the fastest, most accurate results. Its powerful OCR allows you to use the cursor to box in a piece of
46 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD OCTOBER 2019
information, and that data automatically populates the corresponding index field so you don’t have to key it in manually. The scanner is very scalable and simple to use. A solution built around Alaris Capture Pro can grow with your business needs. It has flexible licensing options and can support over 200 scanners from Alaris and other popular vendors. It has an easy distributed deployment and management with network edition and is available as a 1-year subscription in addition to existing perpetual licensing options. It can easily remove sensitive information (i.e. Social Security Number, Credit Card Number). It supports automatic search and redact feature while scanning and viewing documents and the Operator can accept or reject redaction while using it. Final Words Areas of use: All small Medium Organization. Price: On Request Stars:
