EDITOR’S LETTER can help the organisation to read the sentiment of the market and get their organizations ready for them. They need to put multiple hats and become virtual CXO – including, CEO, CMO and CTO, too. They can play a lot with AI, ML and bot services to bring in capability to their organization. They can help their own organisation become data drive organization. It means they need to plan AI driven social marketing programme to reach out to their potential customers and trace the track of their CX in social media. This is to the outside but to the inside they need to rapidly go into DX mode, which they have started but as far as Bot services are concerned very few CIOs have taken that path. It means maintaining the social distance, they need to integrate automation at the backend to eliminate the human interference. This can not only achieve speed but also eliminate the human errors.
AUTOMATION TO ACHIEVE CX
Hello Friends.
I do not know how many days this pandemic continues but I do know that it is going to change the world order completely. The GDP of the country is going down and the companies are serving to the customers who are mostly staying in a self-imposed confinement – at homes. Even the employees of the organizations are working from home or on a hybrid mode. So, in this situation how the business would continue? The CIOs need to think differently to address the changing dynamics. Al though the markets have opened up and there is good news from the market that some sort of activities have started happening, but the fact remains that it will take time for the entire industry to come to terms. The function of IT is always a supporting role for the organizations. If there is no movement in the market then the supporting function slows down. However, every situation brings out a new opportunity. Today the work from home, education from home and medication from home, etc are more prevalent, then why not adopt to that? Now the CIOs need to find out technologies which

TeamViewer Launches AI-Supported Predictive Maintenance Solution
S/HE SAID IT
NAVIN GUPTA
MANAGING DIRECTOR OF SOUTH ASIA AND MENA , RIPPLE
“Due to the size of the India market and our rich pool of talent, if given a hospitable regulatory environment, India can become the biggest hub in innovation with mass market adoption of blockchain with cryptocurrency for real use cases – attracting investors and entrepreneurs from home and abroad.”
TeamViewer has expanded its IoT offering and now offers a way to use artificial intelligence in maintenance. Until now, TeamViewer customers in the IoT field have been able to read sensors, set alarms and connect directly to a wide range of devices. Now an intelligent extension in the area of predictive maintenance is being added. This helps to reduce downtimes in particular and thus save costs. In the past, machines were only repaired if they had already failed (Reactive Maintenance). For some time now, machines have been serviced in a fixed cycle, regardless of whether they are defective or not (preventive maintenance). And only recently has

predictive maintenance been used, mostly on the basis of pure data sets with fixed rules. TeamViewer goes a decisive step further here and offers AI-supported analysis of the resulting data. Machine learning algorithms can thus be used to detect previously unknown patterns and to diagnose impending machine failures at an early stage. The need to detect impending failures is obvious: every hour of unplanned downtime costs an average of US$ 250,000. “The maintenance department is responsible for up to 60 percent of operational expenditure. Our ambition is to reduce this cost item through an AI-based analysis of the device data,” explains Lukas Baur, Vice President IoT at TeamViewer.

80% of MSPs Retain Staff Amid COVID-19: Altaro
First Next-Gen SD-WAN Solution Enabling the Secure Cloud-Delivered Branch
Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation SD-WAN takes an entirely new approach, with a solution that has the following characteristics: “With cloud and multi-cloud adoption on the rise, end user applications like videoconferencing and office productivity solutions are increasingly delivered as cloud services. Legacy WAN architectures have severe limitations, especially when organizations migrate to the cloud. First-generation SD-WAN falls significantly short in changing the economics of branch WAN infrastructure and services,” said Kumar Ramachandran, senior vice president of product manage-
ment for firewall as a platform at Palo Alto Networks. “Enterprises are now demanding an autonomous SD-WAN solution that eliminates the need for manual operational tasks. Enterprises also need a cloud-delivered model for security and other branch services to gain cloud-scale economics. CloudGenix SD-WAN is the industry’s first next-generation SD-WAN solution that is app-defined, autonomous and cloud-delivered. With powerful ML-based capabilities, we deliver dramatic reductions in “day two” operational costs. A customer recently told us they reduced their WAN costs by 82%.”
Managed Service Providers (MSPs) have resisted business pressures to lay off staff despite declining revenues and economic uncertainty during the COVID pandemic. Eight out of 10 MSPs said they did not lay off staff and those that did expect to rehire within six months, according to an Altaro survey. “MSPs continue to show amazing resilience in the face of economic pressures and uncertainty. The demand for IT services continues to grow, especially for backup, and MSPs are making the most of these new opportunities. Challenges remain and their concerns are very real, however, their ability to adapt means the future looks good,” said Stephen Chetcuti Bonavita, CCO, Altaro.

The Fargate serverless solution makes it easy for DevOps professionals to focus on building applications by removing the need to provision and manage servers. The Portshift security solution helps to prevent the deployment of unknown or vulnerable images by detecting, alerting and blocking malicious or
non-authenticated containers. With seamless integration capabilities, Portshift natively protects Fargate instances without any insertion of code or code instrumentation by leveraging an agentless approach. The platform validates Fargate images early in the CI and CD pipeline and enforces runtime security on Fargate EKS to prevent unauthorized or misconfigured containers from running. “When using AWS Fargate and Portshift together for secure serverless architecture the combined solution provides seamless runtime security for any container use case,” said Zohar Kaufman, VP R&D and Co-founder, Portshift. “Portshift provides extended security layers for Fargate instances allowing users to benefit from a seamless and frictionless deployment.” SEPTEMBER 2020 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD

second-factor authentication. The bank operates Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and Bills Recycler Machines (BRMs) in approximately 1,800 locations, including over 760 off-site ATMs. It has installed check acceptor KIOSKs and self passbook printing KIOSKs. It offers CUB mobile wallet, which is a mobilebased software application and caters to customer utility services through mobile phone. CUB’s technological leadership can be gauged from the fact that it was India’s first bank to introduce on-site humanoid (robot) in November 2016. Dubbed as Lakshmi, the robot is designed to assist customers with banking operation queries.
Customer Challenge CUB is one of the oldest private banks in Southern India. It started its operations in 1904. With a bulk of its business based in Tamil Nadu, as more than two-thirds of its branches are in the state; the bank’s performance is also intricately linked with the macroeconomic conditions. Over the years, the bank has seen numerous business cycles, yet it has managed to grow consistently due to its well-managed business model. One of the reasons for this consistent growth has been CUB’s relentless pursuit of business productivity. With a bulk of its clientele comprising micro, small and medium enterprises; the bank realised that every rupee saved was equivalent to every rupee earned. This business philosophy

was applied to all of its banking operations, including the deployment of technology. As part of its diversification strategy, CUB has introduced a plethora of products and services for the benefits of its customers. It has partnered with numerous companies like LIC and Qatar-headquartered Doha Bank QSC, to provide various facilities like insurance products and e-remittances. To cater to this bouquet of services, CUB required avant-garde technological solutions that were not only scalable but also easy to deploy. Not to forget, it had to be economical as well. To resolve this business challenge, CUB decided to opt for outsourcing strategically and decided to decentralise for business excellence. It worked with different partners for network maintenance and hosting of its data centres. Over the years, as the banking operations grew, so did the spread of its outsourcing map. With multiple data centres in different cities, CUB was looking for a single service provider that could provide multiple-city presence as well as robust infrastructure. The bank wished to consolidate its function with one resilient vendor for ease of use and cost validation.
STT GDC India Solution In 2013, CUB decided to consolidate its technology operations with STT GDC India. The bank used state- of-the-art STT GDC India data centres in Chennai and Bengaluru to access reliable and secure infrastructure to host critical applications. STT GDC India provides infrastructure provisioning along with necessary power and cooling to run the data centre, helping CUB to focus on its core business, namely banking operations. As STT GDC India is carrier-neutral, CUB can access the services through multiple network providers, thereby bringing in business resilience. The success of this partnership can be gauged from the fact that CUB has migrated its entire workload on STT GDC India servers. Not only that, even its DR sites are located in the STT GDC India data centre in Bengaluru. Given the sensitivity of the banking sector, the data centres are completely in consonance with RBI guidelines, adhering to the conditions that have been set by the banking ombudsman. According to Sankaran G, Deputy General Manager, CUB, “The partnership with STT GDC
Customer Benefits Thanks to its sharp focus on business and productivity, CUB has been able to grow consistently even when some of its peers have failed and shut down. CUB is now looking to diversify geographically. Since 1995, CUB has started expanding beyond South India. It has opened branches in different parts of India like Mumbai, New Delhi and Punjab. “STT GDC India’s geographic spread helps us to diversify and grow our business. The world- class infrastructure aids us in business growth,” stated Sankaran G, Deputy General Manager, CUB. In addition, CUB has drawn the following benefits: n STT GDC India enables CUB to run its services and reach new markets with continuous data backup. n Better focus on managing operational complexities and innovation instead of spending time in mundane tasks, such as setting up a data centre, recruiting, managing and DR. n Meeting stringent compliance regulations of banking sectors in terms of technology usage. n Ability to work with multiple software partners like Wipro and TCS, with the hardware, based in STT GDC India. CASE STUDY // COVID-19 PANDEMIC
BY SANJAY@ACCENTINFOMEDIA.COM
IS THE INTERNET SUSTAINING THE GROWTH TRAJECTORIES OBSERVED AS THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HIT THE WORLD? With the COVID-19 pandemic hitting the sixth month of global disruption, many companies readily shared data, statistics and observational insights on how the pandemic has impacted the global data infrastructure. While an increased demand for core Internet infrastructure was quickly observed, Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella remarked in April of 2020: “we have seen two years’ worth of digital transformation in two months.” In May of 2020, Dropbox was quoted saying: “Another challenge for Dropbox has been the shift of Internet traffic from being highly concentrated in big hubs to a more distributed pattern. Instead of having a lot of traffic coming from a thousand accounts in a university, for example, Dropbox is now seeing all those accounts access its platform from many different places, through many different networks.” To address this, Dzmitry Markovich, Senior Director of Engineering at Dropbox, 20 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD SEPTEMBER 2020
and his team have been analyzing its last-mile connectivity strategy and actively looking for more last-mile ISPs to peer with. Dropbox already peers “heavily”, but it’s now indispensable to invest in even more peering relationships. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect many industries – including the restaurant, airline, and hospitality sectors to name a few – the Internet continues to be a beacon of hope, maintaining human interactions, education and serving as a business continuity solution. Without today’s Internet and interconnection ecosystems, the emotional and physical strain on people would have been even more devastating. At the onset of the pandemic it became clear, how important and crucial the role of the Internet is: as a formidable and reliable connectivity enabler to at-home workers who video conferenced daily, to families who streamed movies and played games online, as well as to students who
engaged with e-learning tools. Six months in, what trends continue to stick? What demand continues to rise? Has the surging growth of the Internet leveled off? DE-CIX, one of the world’s leading operators of interconnection platforms, is observing continued growth and demand with increased connectivity requests to its globally operated Internet Exchanges. The immediate surge in upgrade requests has subsided a bit, indicating a leveling off and quick response taken by core internet players to immediately add capacity in anticipation of user demand. In April 2020, the need for more bandwidth throughout the world with core networks and edge locations gobbling data feverishly was highlighted as the Internet helped communities stay connected, educated, productive and informed – and working. While this still remains the case, in some ‘edge’ locations, even more so than before, as Internet use surge

continued, the digital divide has been more rampant than ever. Has Internet Growth Continued to Accelerate? Decline? Or Level Off? Prior to COVID-19, standard Internet growth of 10-50% was observed across DE-CIX platforms on an annual basis. However, at the start of this pandemic, DE-CIX observed this level of traffic growth (between 10-50% increases) in a matter of days.
The apparent incremental capacity immediately added at the onset of the pandemic remains to be the foundation supporting and enabling ongoing growth by network providers. Companies that seemingly had excess capacity are now revisiting their projections, adding incremental capacity to support the ongoing usage demand to ensure a reliable and always on experience for end-users. To help provide more networks access to a proven interconnection platform, internet exchanges are establishing new interconnection locations across
the globe. With the observations and quick reactions internet exchanges remain more committed than ever before so as to enhance interconnection options, enable access to the world’s open and neutral interconnection ecosystem and, enable companies a quick and reliable access to other networks, content, applications and cloud solutions.

NEXT GENERATION 5G TECHNOLOGY CHANGING KEY BUSINESSES The ongoing situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increased focus on automation to drive business continuity and revive the Indian economy. Furthermore, fueled by the 24 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD SEPTEMBER 2020
ban on Chinese products and apps, this has acted as a catalyst for India to look towards developing a high-tech ecosystem indigenously. Keeping technology at the center of all operations, 5G,
which is poised as the next-big thing in enabling digital communications, will be central to this transformation, and provide sectors the zest to augment their business operations.
5G TECHNOLOGY // SECURITY
Real Estate The real estate sector, which has for long been known for its offline operations, is set to transform itself with the advent of 5G technology. In its new avatar, virtual property tours using AR/ VR technologies, as well as 3D printed models of homes will be a reality in aiding digital marketing and sale of properties. Powered by stable and fast networks with lower latency, 5G will also ensure the smooth functioning of various stages of the design process to include 3D architectural visualization and collaborative meetings with various stakeholders.
Farming In this emerging technological world, scientific farming techniques are being used to boost productivity in farms. These include use of Agri-IoT sensors for soil monitoring, water management, smart irrigation, crop health monitoring, dronebased farm management etc. Deployment of 5G networks will provide added benefit to manage these drones and get real time data from the sensors by effectively using the 5G networks.
Healthcare The healthcare industry will immensely benefit from 5G networks. With increasing use of online consultations and tele-medicine, a reliable and faster connection is critical to effectively deliver remote healthcare services. The low latency and faster speeds which are a main feature of 5G will help in time critical telemedicine applications such as remote surgery and remote patient monitoring etc. Hospitals also transmit large amounts of patient data including large files like CT Scans and MRIs. Some hospitals like King’s College Hospital, UK; Sinchuan University Hospital, China and Samsung Medical Centre, South Korea are installing private Enterprise 5G solutions to support their IT networks.
Automotive 5G brings with it unprecedented speed and connectivity to make autonomous, or self-driving cars a reality. An autonomous car is expected to produce up to 25 GB data per hour. Current networks will not be able to handle such large volumes of real-time data. 5G networks will allow faster-than-ever communication and real-time data processing between vehicles, networks, infrastructure and even pedestrians.
Industrial The manufacturing or industrial sector is becoming more and more autonomous. High speed connectivity is needed to monitor and direct robots working on the factory floor. Additionally, many factories are becoming more “smart” with IoT sensors being installed across the factory, sharing real-time updates to a central server. 5G technologies can provide network characteristics that are vital for the manufacturing industry. This technology will allow for increased flexibility, lower costs, and smaller lead times for layout changes and alterations at the manufacturing units, factory floor production reconfiguration etc. Large organizations like Worchester Bosch, Siemens, Ford Motors etc. are deploying enterprise 5G networks to streamline their operations. 5G is poised to aid manufacturing/ production operations, helping them become more efficient, while also refining security and reducing maintenance and operating costs. 5G technology is an upcoming revolution, which promises to bring advantages in every aspect of human lives, right from manufacturing to real estate and from products and services to experiences! HOW FINTECH IS TRANSF ORMING AND ITS FUTURE IN INDIA
PRAVEEN AGRAWAL,
Co-head of India, OakNorth
India’s size, demographics and large unbanked population make it an incredibly attractive market for both domestic and international fintechs. The fintech
landscape in India has been expanding with businesses cropping up in the fields of payment applications and insurance, to personal finance management and alternative lending. This rapid growth of the industry needs to be supported by its main stakeholders –are governments and regulators, financial institutions, incubators and accelerators, and of course, the consumers. While the Government provides a number of stimulus measures to overcome the challenges being presented by COVID-19, and large corporations struggle to create and retain jobs in the wake of the ongoing pandemic, it is the start-up ecosystem that has emerged as a ray of hope to fulfil the employment aspirations of the country. In today’s technology age, it is evident that most of the innovation will be seen from start-ups rather than larger established companies. That being said, over the last month, we have seen some interesting innovations from some of the largest and most established tech companies in the world. We saw Amazon doubling down in India – with 100m registered customers, this market is increasingly becoming a strategic hub for Amazon. In an effort to increase its Prime subscriptions and put more users behind the paywall, Amazon has added auto-insurance and gold investment products to its subscription service. It has partnered with Acko General Insurance, one of the country’s digital insurance start-ups, to offer the auto-insurance products on both its app and website. Meanwhile, Indian payments firm, Paytm, announced that it will begin offering stock trading via its Paytm Money Stocks app. As Paytm said in its own words “With only 2 million direct equity
investors in India at present, this segment holds immense growth potential.” If we look at similar apps around the world, Robinhood is valued at over $11bn with c.15 million customers, while Revolut is valued at over $5bn with c.10 million customers. So, this could prove to be a very lucrative proposition for Paytm, which already boasts c.350m users across India. Singaporean fintech firm Atlantis has entered the Indian market with Neo-Bank, an Indian app-based banking platform targeting millennials. The app offers a range of financial management and investing tools, a savings account and bank card. Neo-Bank has a waitlist of 5k users and expects to onboard 3k registrants within its first three months. From our perspective as a scaling fintech, India has always been a key market for talent. Not only is one of our founders, Rishi Khosla, British Indian, but it was also a central market for his and his business partner’s (Joel Perlman) first venture – Copal. OakNorth’s Gurugram office opened in 2015 with just four employees – of which I was one. Today, the team is made up of more than 350 people. Meanwhile, the Bengaluru office, which opened in 2018 with just three employees, is today made up of more than 150 people. With over 500 team members out of a global workforce of circa 950, India is by far OakNorth’s largest market in terms of headcount. Throughout this year, we have continued to grow our tech team and capabilities despite the unprecedented economic and working environment, and it will continue to be a market for fintechs like OakNorth to be born and thrive.

TIME OF MARKETING INNOVATION
Covid-19 has changed the world order. The entire sales motion has changed. On top of it delay in payments. So, the organizations have to thing differently. Today the CMOs role have been very important as they are becoming the cog in the entire wheel of the sales. Due to the lockdown, very few people are attending their offices. Most of the production houses are closed due to very slow sales cycle. Even the consumption of media and entertainment content are happening out of homes so also education and other buying and selling. In this situation sales motion has got a beating. No sales rep has gone out in past 5 – 6 months to meeting any customer. What we are buying, we are buying based on our online impression. So digital platforms are becoming powerful and influencer of sales motion. This is nothing but marketing activities. 30 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD SEPTEMBER 2020
Now the question comes how the marketeers seeing this opportunity. Whether all the marketeers and enterprises are cognizant of this. I believe by now most of the organizations and marketeers are aware of this. In this situation, AI and Machine learning along with analytics becomes very powerful tools. Also, I would say the bot services including chat bots. Today, Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, etc are playing major role in opinion creation of people. This is also applicable to the products too. We talk about the B2B technology, but the technology is about to serve the larger goal of enterprises to serve the end consumers with finished products. So, if the finished products are not sold into the market then the B2B technology does not have any growth. Therefore, the marketing heads need to ramp
up their innovation. Even the CIOs should put the hands of the CMOs and think in the lines of the marketing. They should think of aligning technology to the requirement of the marketeers. So, the CIOs technology should be focussing on security, social media, AI, ML, Bot services and analytics aggressively. Even the CIOs should look at developing apps for their organizations. Innovations around these services would definitely yield great dividends. We are getting good number of queries about development teams and agencies who can create apps for their companies, where they can post their products and developments. Now the CMOs need to take it to the next level and give it a logical conclusion of marketing in a right way and effective way.
