PUBLIC CLOUD TO BECOME THE DE FACTO COMPUTING HUB
Global public cloud market is growing
on a very rapid pace to touch $206.2 billion in 2019, up from $175.8 billion in 2018. This is just an analysis but by the time we complete 2019, the number will be higher than expected. Similarly, India’s cloud market size is going to be $4.1 Billion by 2020 and my expectation is that it would much more than its projection. It has a great deal to do with the global market growth – particularly the growth in China and US. India offers huge advantage from the investment point of view. This is good for the folks who are in job and waiting at the sidelines for the jobs. The jobs may be in government or private, but the outcome of the investment will impact the lives of all the people. The huge consumer market in India and huge backend market in India for the consumption of the global consumers are the drivers of the Indian growth. As the population is growing and cost of living is growing, it is taking the pricing of the products to a higher side which is naturally eroding the profit margin and restricting the innovation. Therefore, organizations would look at ways and means to enhance the profit margin. One way they can do is by reducing the cost on the people the other would be restricting the cost towards the infrastructure acquisition. In whichever way they can restrict their expenses, they would do that. So, from the cost perspective towards man and

INFORMATION SECURITY FOR THE CIOS
The next issue is dedicated to information security for the CIOs. This issue is one of the most important issues in the year as cyber security is becoming centrifugal component in the entire CIO scheme of things. infrastructure, cloud would be the best one. Of course, there would be restriction from various quarters – specially from the government side as it is peoples’ represented govt or democracy. But now the present government has already recognized the importance of cloud computing and have started outsourcing to the cloud companies or they have started building their own DC to put all their tools in their own cloud. This is the first step though, but it also has some restrictions. Some of the tools they may not get in their own cloud as it may not be so world class or may not be updated as per the world standard. Therefore, the next step is public cloud. Many of the large companies globally are in public cloud for reason that they would be globally competitive owning to their strong backend technology. Second advantage is that India is also an epicenter of SMEs who are absorbing the largest population of skilled and unskilled labor force. In order to retain the manpower and grow is not that easy unless you adopt world class technology in your services and product development. This not only gives the SMEs growth but also keeps the work force in good health. They take pride in working in an organization which is at par with any of the global large organizations and therefore they remain motivated and their productivity enhances. We can see the companies like Zomato, Uber, Ola, PayTM, Kent RO, OYO Rooms, Flipkart, etc., which are performing excellent in the index of national industrial performance. There are two reasons behind it – one they are on public cloud secondly, they have motivated workers, who can work day and night using the technology which can deter them from nowhere. Before I wind up I would like to thank every CIO / CISO, CFO/ CTO, and the vendor community who have supported us in reaching today, where we are observing this month (March 2019) as the 10th Anniversary of Enterprise IT World. I wish to get similar kind of support in years to come. I commit that on behalf of Enterprise IT Would, I would support you in bringing global trends and contents, which would help you in showing the path for growth. Thank you and happy reading!

CoSoSys brings Content-Aware Data Loss Prevention to the Indian market
CoSoSys brings one of the most important modules of Endpoint Protector – ‘Content Aware Protection’ for scanning data in motion. With its Content Aware Module, it aims to curb the threat to data security by monitoring and controlling data transfers on company networks while at the same time offering a smooth user-friendly experience that greatly reduces implemen-
tation times. Best suited for the Enterprise and Small Medium Businesses, Data Leakage Prevention (also called Data Loss Prevention or short DLP) has become one of the main security challenges for companies all over the world. Endpoint Protector’s Content Aware Protection module is the easiest-to-use tool of its kind on the market. It allows companies to decide which sensitive data can leave computers by creating policies on predefined content or compliance regulations, such as GDPR, PCI DSS etc. “DLP has gained popularity around the world, including in India, and people have realized how important it is, to protect their confidential information and to make sure that the sensitive data does not leave the company`s environment. Organizations using a DLP solution, such as Endpoint Protector will benefit from affordable and efficient protection against the loss or theft of sensitive data, such as customer databases, bank accounts, personally identifiable information (PII) etc. as well as support in becoming compliant with data protection regulations such as PCI DSS, GDPR etc.”. said Mr. Filip Cotfas, Channel Manager, CoSoSys
Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Continental Launch Blockchain-Based Data Monetization Platform
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and the technology company Continental have announced a new platform, expected to be available in 2019, for sharing vehicle data to enable new digital services that improve driver safety and convenience. The platform will help car
manufacturers monetize their data and differentiate their brands. Based on blockchain technology, the platform provides data sovereignty, security, transparency, and efficiency to overcome the barriers of sharing vehicle data. Applying a complimentary approach, HPE and Continental’s platform leverages a decentralized architecture based on blockchain technologies. Participants, such as car manufacturers, continue storing the data in their own data centers and only share specific data sets upon purchase directly with the buyer. This approach gives data sovereignty to all participants in the ecosystem, while at the same time providing a highly efficient and secure procedure for monetizing vehicle data.
Gartner Says Nearly 50 Percent of PaaS Offerings Are Now Cloud-Only
According to Gartner, currently, there are more than 360 vendors across 21 market segments, delivering more than 550 PaaS offerings. Forty-eight per-
cent of these offerings are cloud-only. Not a single vendor has a foothold across all 21 segments, and 90 percent of them only operate within a single PaaS market segment. “Business and technology leaders are shifting to strategic investment in cloud computing, Cloud computing is one of the key disruptive forces in IT markets that is gaining mainstream trust. Although many organizations anticipate a long-term retention of on-premises computing, the vendors of nearly half of the cloud platform offerings bet on the prevailing growth of cloud deployments and chose the more modern and more efficient cloudonly delivery of their capabilities,” said Yefim Natis, Research vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner. Enterprise IT spending for cloud-based offerings will surpass spending for noncloud IT offerings by 2022, according to Gartner. urrently, there are over 23 billion IoT connected devices worldwide. This number will further rise up to reach 30 billion by 2020 and over 60 billion by the end of 2025. This massive wave of new gadgets doesn’t come without a cost. As IoT evolves and moves further into the mainstream, security becomes a bigger part of the conversation. There’s no denying the importance of IoT security. Depending on the industry and application, companies using IoT technology risk possible exposure from a range of threats stemming from hacktivism, terrorism, and cyber warfare. There also are personal security issues, like the possibility of a residential smart door being unlocked, and larger-scale ones, like the potential for a smart grid to be taken over by terrorists.

THE MIRAI ATTACK. Mirai is a malware that turns networked devices running Linux into remotely controlled “bots” that can be used as part of a botnet in large-scale network attacks. It primarily targets online consumer devices such as IP cameras and home routers. It is also considered a botnet because the infected devices are controlled via a central set of command and control (C&C) servers. These servers tell the infected devices which sites to attack next. Overall, Mirai is made of two key components: a replication module and an attack module.

Allowing devices to connect to the internet opens them up to a number of serious vulnerabilities if they are not properly protected. While businesses cannot stop IoT attacks from happening, they can be proactive in mitigating threats to network security and protecting valuable data and IT systems. ... For their part, consumers must hold businesses to higher standards and approach any IoT-related purchase with a critical eye. Nearly any internet-connected device can be considered an IoT device. With humanity’s growing reliance on the internet, the number of devices capable of being hacked and used as part of a botnet has increased dramatically. By 2020, there will be over three IoT devices for every human on planet earth
Each company must consider their own security needs to choose a platform that will allow them to reduce complexity and cost to provide a secure connection for all smart devices. An IoT security platform should include real-time updates to monitor all devices. Additionally, an IoT solution should allow users to security manage IoT devices with shared liability, prevent device tampering, automatically detect devices and gateways, remotely provision and manage devices, perform routine maintenance and collect diagnostics, and provide firmware updates to avoid recalls and keep device configuration secure.
1 – SECURE THE IOT NETWORK Protect and secure the network connecting IoT devices to the back-end systems on the internet by implementing traditional endpoint security features such as antivirus, anti-malware, firewalls, and intrusion prevention and detection systems.
2 – AUTHENTICATE THE IOT DEVICES Allow the users to authenticate the IoT devices by introducing multiple user management features for a single IoT device and implementing robust authentication mechanisms such as two-factor authentication, digital certificates, and biometrics.
3 – USE IOT DATA ENCRYPTION To protect the privacy of users and prevent IoT data breaches, encrypt the data at rest and intransit between IoT devices and back-end systems by using standard cryptographic algorithms and fully-encrypted key lifecycle management processes to boost the overall security of user data and privacy.
4 – USE IOT PKI SECURITY METHODS To ensure a secure connection between an IoT device & app, use IoT public key infrastructure security methods such as X.509 digital certificate, cryptographic key, and life-cycle capabilities including public/private key generation, distribution, management, and revocation.
5 – BEWARE OF LATEST IOT SECURITY THREATS & BREACHES To ensure the security of the IoT devices and applications, the device makers and app developers must beware of the latest IoT security threats and breaches. Since the IoT is still an emerging technology, its security breaches are bound to happen. Hence, both IoT device manufacturers and the IoT app developers must be ready for the security breaches with a proper exit plan to secure maximum data in case of a security attack or data breach. Last but not least, both IoT device makers and IoT app developers must also take an initiative to teach their employees and users about latest IoT threats, breaches, and security solutions. INTERVIEW
EVERY BUSINESS ISSUE THAT YOU HAVE, CISCO HAS A SOLUTION FOR IT As enterprises have a plethora of technological challenges, Cisco as a company has solutions for these challenges. Rajesh Shetty, Managing Director, Enterprise Sales, Cisco India and SAARC, opens up about CIOs challenging roles in the everchanging cloud landscape and the role CISCO will play in it.
RAJESH SHETTY
MANAGING DIRECTOR, ENTERPRISE SALES, CISCO INDIA AND SAARC
“What is happening is that everybody thought that the cloud is the solution to all problems. Increasingly people are realizing that cloud
is another tool.”
Talking from a CIO space, where is the market heading now? How is CISCO technologies influencing on those? DThe biggest focus I would say are in three basic areas. One area that they are heavily focused on is the customer experience which can be an internal customer which is an employee, or it can be an external customer which is a customer. So they 18 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD MARCH 2019
are very focused in terms of ensuring that the right level of experience is provided for their end customer and their internal customer. So, every discussion has got customer experience as one big area. The other area is in terms of automation, analytics, simplification. The advantage that we have from CISCO point of view that since we offer solutions across a wide gamut of products,
we are associated in every single activity that the customer is doing. The third is security on an end-to-end basis. One of the biggest drivers of that is basically cloud. If you look at how things used to operate like say 5 or 6 years back, used to have very few people who could access the internet, or very few people who could access anything which is cloud based. So all the traffic
INTERVIEW
used to come to a central location and from the central location there used to be an internet-link to go out. Today in the cloud era, 40-45% of your traffic is actually going on to the internet. If you’re using Microsoft Office 365, if you’re using any PAS or SAAS based solution or even CISCO Webex, everything is finally cloud based. From the branch itself, significant amount of your traffic is going on to the cloud. You have to think about how you get security embedded on an end-to-end basis. So, you know the CIOs and CXOs are spending quite a lot of time in grappling with this, these three areas. Coming from a CISCO point of view, what we have done is when we acquired a company called Source Fire, almost 5 years ago, we got one of the best AMP products. So, we took that AMP product and we embedded that in every single product that we make, that means it converts a switch into a censor, it basically converts a router into a censor, it converts an access point into a censor, whether you’re talking about an SDA van or any type of software defined architecture. Now, when you make a switch into a censor, that means every packet that is going you are now getting meta data out of it. Your router, whenever it is receiving or sending traffic onto the VAN it is again receiving meta data out of it. Now all this meta data helps you get information then you can automate and do lot of analytics in terms of what is happening within an infrastructure. Gone are the days when you talk about if I get attacked, I have to do abc, it’s a question of when I get attacked. So recovery has become more important than trying to prevent it. So, when you’re recovering, what you need is an intelligence that this is an attack. So, we have one of the best intelligence sources which is a framework called TALOS where all the security incidents around the world get captured and then we try to figure out that how is this happening, where did it start from, how long ago did it start. And then we can give information across to our customers. We offer this free of cost, we don’t charge our customer. So, let’s assume that a security incident which has started in the US, as an example, through TALOS you get information and before you get attacked or when that attack is actually coming into your network, based upon the patterns, we say your network is coming under a specific attack and these are the actions that can be taken. So, the emphasis is shifted from say can I put a door to what is the action that I need to take and how do I know an attack is coming. Other thing which happens is most of the attacks have become very directed. A specific attack is typically written for an organization. Now you have heard of many attacks where they have gone ahead, the Bangla-
desh Bank as an example was targeted. So, there are so many of those. But since we have TALOS, since we have information, and we also have in the latest switches that we have announced we call it (ETA) Encrypted Traffic Analysis. What it does is, based upon the traffic that is going through it, from where it is originating, where it is destined for, you make an analysis of that and we are giving guidance in terms of saying that this particular traffic is malicious, whereas this particular traffic is non-malicious. Because now since we are looking at every single packet, we know what benign information is going across. This wealth of information is also helping us in terms of the analytics and the automation part. Now this all is on the technology point of view. Since the landscape is changing, how do you provide solutions to customers? How do you go about in the market providing solutions? So, it’s actually again a combination. From a CISCO point of view scale becomes very important. We are not in the consulting business where we go and do something which is very bespoke for our customer. What we do is we create solutions which are like 80-85% standardized. And the last 15% is what gets customized. So, the product that we use, for let’s assume the pharma industry, the products that we use for manufacturing, or IT or education, binary remains the same. Now since these are all software defined, and they are programmable, the manner in which to leverage and use them that can be done in two ways. One can be the standard used cases, which we have solutions already created and we deploy that. Then the second one is because we are exposing the APIs and we have partners who are our definite partners they can come and customize according to specifications of a customer’s requirement. So in that way we are able to meet both worlds. How would you describe the role of CIOs under cloud? What is your take on that? TThe CIOs role is evolving. What is happening is that everybody thought that the cloud is the solution to all problems. Increasingly people are realizing that cloud is another tool. So, his job has become very complex. He has to figure out how the organization can meet the customer experience part in an increasingly complex world. He has to figure out how security is going to get embedded into it. He has to figure out productivity, he has to figure out application. So the CIOs role is changing. Some of them are morphing into Chief Digitization Officer, some of them are morphing into Chief Security
Officer. So, I don’t see the CIO role going away. I don’t see people not wanting to be CIOs. It’s just that a different skill set is going to come and frankly over a period of time my belief is that more and more CIOs will come from a business background. And more and more CIOs will become the CEOs of the organization. The business level discussion that CIOs are now having is very high compared to what was happening earlier. They are getting embedded into multiple different business units. And they are getting a cross-section view which makes them an ideal candidate to become the next CEOs. If you look at the pace in which the role of CIO is evolving because of the tech, it’s becoming increasingly strategic, they are having a say in everything. Digitization has now become core to every organization. If he is able to make that connection between business and tech then I would say he is in the ideal position to evolve. And that is why the CIOs role is changing so much. There are the ones to be the next leader. What are we going to see from the CISCO kitty that is coming up, new acquisition, new product launch? Lots of acquisitions are coming up. Cisco and acquisition go hand-in-hand. In the past 1 year it has been very security centric. If you look at the Gartner quadrant and if you look at CISCO literally in all the technologies, we are in the leader’s quadrant and that is one area CISCO will continue to acquire talent and company. The advantage of TALOS is that since we have a large install base, we get to know about the problem faster than anyone else and then we can proactively act on it and take precaution. When WannaCry happened, we got information from multiple sources faster than anyone else and we could prevent that from happening to our customer base faster. Customer experience is another area where you will find evolution on terms of what is happening. The biggest focus will continue down the path of rearchitecting CISCO down the path of software solution, cloud based recurring subscriptions. What about CISCO Services? We are doing quite a lot on the services side. Obviously, we’ll leverage our partners very heavily. A lot of new areas where we get into is where we leverage our services. Another thing we are finding out is a lot of niche companies are coming in with lots of services experience so we are leveraging them very effectively. So, the focus on services will always continue. But we are never going to be in a situation where we compete with our partners. We are always going to look at complimenting them. MARCH 2019 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD

loud is the new standard across the industries, with CIOs trying to partake in the revolution as it happens. We spoke to the local market players to get their insights about the factors that have contributed to the growth of the Cloud Business in India.
FACTORS THAT LEAD TO THE GROWTH OF CLOUD IN INDIA
The Indian market landscape has changed tremendously over the last couple of years. With the increasing accessibility of the internet and the services that come with it, businesses are benefitting from an open economy that allows them to navigate the market more freely than ever before. Just as the Internet can be accredited to have broken the barriers that were previously limiting the economy and businesses, so has the Cloud taken on the mantle now. Talking about the effect of Cloud in the corporate world, Rakesh Soni, Cofounder and CEO of LoginRadius, said, “A corporate ‘no-cloud’ policy is soon to be a thing of the past. Soon a no cloud policy will be as rare as a no internet policy is today in organizations. A few years ago, companies were hesitant towards moving to the cloud, experimenting with smaller applications at first. But in the last few years, it has witnessed a dramatic change. Today, as part of digital transformation, companies are

struction will allow the businesses to identify the opportunities that Cloud delivers on. And so going back to the initial realization of this immense potential, Rajeev Papneja, Chief Technology Evangelist, ESDS observes, “The initial
factors that drove the growth of cloud computing in India were cost savings on purchases combined with the freedom from management & maintenance of Datacenter, the hardware & software to a large extent.”

“I feel it will definitely slow down the pace at which cloud was getting embraced by Enterprises. More than anything else, understanding the clauses of the bill, its legalities and determining the applicable law would be among the initial challenges faced by Enterprises.”
This highlights an acknowledgement of the Cloud as a better alternative to the traditional Data Centers. Not just in terms of costeffectiveness, but also as an arrangement that allows remote accessibility and is conducive to innovation in the business operations. Cloud Computing, then becomes a solution for businesses aiming at a more streamlined management of data. “Businesses demand more agility to make sure that they can launch new services to give them an edge in a competitive market. In the process they are making an effort to get the data & applications and delivered services closer to the customer. And those data centres tend to be cloud oriented infrastructure. Companies are on a lookout for better ways of doing things, cloud being a solution to get things done more rapidly,” said Riyaz Tambe, Head of Systems Engineering, India and SAARC Palo Alto Networks. Cloud offers the businesses a competitive edge in the industry that stems from an enhanced deliverability when it comes to dealing with customers. This movement of the Indian Enterprises towards the adoption of Cloud, is multi-faceted, the government playing as important a role as the technology itself. “Although the country is still overcoming inconsistencies in high-speed internet connectivity, power supply, bandwidth, and optical fiber connections, interest in the cloud is being driven by the increasing need for business innovation and agility, the ability to scale fast in a competitive market, and the government’s thrust towards Digital India,” comments Forbes.
WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY ABOUT THE INDIAN DATA PROTECTION BILL? The Indian Data Protection Bill, still in its early stages, pushes for data localisation. The Bill to be introduced in the Indian Parliament in June suggests that the personal data of Indian citizens
be held and processed within the geographical boundaries of the country. According to Sify, “The Indian Personal Data Protection Bill introduces and mandates the concept of ‘privacy by design’ (PbD). Organizations will have to embed this concept in the entire data life cycle of collection, processing and use, storage, transmission, archival and disposal. An organization will need to store at least one serving copy of the personal data on a server or data center located in India. Also, the bill requires organizations not to transfer or store overseas sensitive personal data or certain categories of personal data identified by the Central Government as critical personal data.” Commenting on the likely effect of the said Bill on the Cloud adoption in India, Rajeev Papneja, Chief Technology Evangelist, ESDS, said, “I feel it will definitely slow down the pace at which cloud was getting embraced by Enterprises. More than anything else, understanding the clauses of the bill, its legalities and determining the applicable law would be among the initial challenges faced by Enterprises. If we talk about data retention policies, each industry has its own standards and now there will be an additional standard applicable. In many cases it would become necessary for the Enterprises to now understand the underlying architecture deployed at the CSP end to ensure that it meets the required compliances mentioned in Data Protection Bill.” Though how far these apprehensions hold true, can only be answered in due course of time. Expressing a contrary view, B.S Rao, Vice President, Marketing, CtrlS Datacenters Ltd, said, “With the proposed Indian data protection bill, all enterprises and businesses using cloud with resources deployed outside the country will have to move it back to India. Hence, it will lead to higher deployment and consumption of cloud within the country. Secondly, since every business requires to address business continuity
and disaster recovery, additional resources will be managed through a secondary location. Hence, we will witness rapid growth of cloud resource consumption within the country to ensure compliance with the proposed bill.” Keeping aside the possibilities that might or might not be realized with the Bill, the industrial revolution that the Cloud is bringing about, has indeed resolved a number of challenges faced by the industry.
CIOS INFRASTRUCTURE CHALLENGES RESOLVED BY THE CLOUD The pace of Technology is much faster than what industries can possibly keep up with. While a business tries to wrap its head around a new technology and training its workforce in employing it to the benefit of the business, there is always already new technology in the market demanding to be explored. In such a landscape it becomes difficult for businesses to keep themselves and their resources updated. This is where Cloud offers an easy solution. Rajeev Papaneja, Chief Technology Evangelist, ESDS, identifies with Cloud, a possibility to stay updated at the front of technology. “A major challenge faced by the CIO’s was to keep the infrastructure relevant in fast paced changing technology era. With a huge amount of CAPEX investment done in purchasing different IT and Non IT components, upgrading it every 6 months, 1 year or even in couple of years was not feasible. They were forced to live with the obsolete infrastructure components in many cases. For a commercial DC, cost of many such components are amortized amongst many customers, thereby allowing them to always keep the infrastructure upgraded.” Apart from financial resources, the other end of the spectrum is a trained workforce. “Digital transformation of businesses across sectors in India has led to sprawl in data, which can no longer be restricted to the four walls of a data center. In the digital world, there is an increased emphasis on delivering the best customer experience, placing Availability of data at the heart of an IT strategy. Additionally, as business outcomes increasingly depend on the ability to manage data intelligently, CXOs require cloud data management solutions with a new state of intelligence that anticipates the real-time business requirements across multi-cloud environments.”
Sify’s Cloud Differentiation: Sify has a unique set of ICT services; a one stop shop offering Enterprise Cloud + Hyper Connect Service + Cloud Security Practice + Certified Enterprise Applications in one bundle. These are just one part of a comprehensive ICT ecosystem that is supplemented by a full service Network, a string of top tier DCs and an industry grade applications availability. There are multiple service providers in the market offerings Cloud services. The handicap with most of them is that their services stop at being only Cloud services. So, from a client standpoint, integrations across and with other layers of the IT architecture typically calls into play other service providers. We eliminate that.
Radius, said,” Hosting systems and storing data on the cloud also provides safeguard in case of emergencies. CIOs realize that man-made and natural disasters can damage equipment, shut off power and incapacitate critical IT functions in a
company. Saving data on the cloud therefore brings with it an important advantage for companies.” Approaching the matter from the other end, where he compares the pre-Cloud era to a Cloud era market, B.S Rao, Vice President, Marketing, CtrlS Datacenters Ltd, said, “In the conventional, pre-cloud era a CIO had a challenge of match IT resource supply to realtime need of business as hardware suffered from scalability limitation, secondly, hardware would have a life span, besides the cost of annual maintenance. Secondly, the hardware required to be deployed on-premise with round the clock power, cooling, security etc with manpower to manage the resources. With Cloud computing a CIO is able to eliminate the cost of annual maintenance, hardware refresh cost, scalability/elasticity, excess costs, excess resources, availability challenges, security and compliance challenges.” Apart from these solutions for CIOs that the Cloud provides, there are also a number of other advantages that pertain to the everyday management and the culture of the organization. These have been enumerated by Ravindra Kelkar, Area Vice President, Sales & Services, India Sub-continent, Citrix, “With cloud, employees can carry their data and access it wherever they go. Cloud adoption not only makes businesses more flexible, but it allows them to use their personal devices to access this information if need be. Business can use file-sharing applications to collaborate effectively, despite geographic limitations. Therefore, one of the major advantages of cloud computing for businesses is the
increased mobility. This is particularly valuable in an age when employees desire flexibility in their schedules and work environment. Businesses that operate on the cloud can provide employees with options to work on the go, from home, across all devices.” Therefore, Cloud as a solution for CIOs, not just contributes to the business efficiency in terms of delivering to the customers, or cutting down the costs for the management, but it also goes a long way in revolutionizing the workplace for the employees by redefining the workplace dynamics.
Finally... B.S. Rao of CtrlS Datacenters Ltd concludes “Overall cloud adoption among Indian business including the micro, small and medium enterprises is just about 10%, while the enterprise penetration appears to be in the zone of 30 to 45%. Having said that, software as a service (SaaS) penetration is the highest with over 50% of all large, micro, small and medium using it. However, infrastructure as a service (IaaS) adoption in enterprise is estimated to be about 30% to 40%, while it could be anywhere between 5 to 8% across MSME’s in India. Therefore India offers enormous potential for all cloud players be it SaaS, PaaS, or IaaS.” he added, “Industry cloud players should make efforts to help MSME’s overcome their inhibitions and concerns of cloud security, availability, and business continuity etc. This will help them embrace cloud technology especially Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and reap the benefits such as resource optimization, higher

rayagraj Ardh Kumbh Mela, 2019 is the Ardh Kumbh Mela held at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj (Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh, India from 15 January to 4 March 2019. This is the first time in the Indian cultural history that Digital technology has been used in this Kumbh for safety, security, promotion, visitor services, command and control rooms, online payment, etc. to give a few instances. Indian has never seen this type of high-tech Mela. Some companies provided online aarti through their mobile applications. Other kind of technology that was used at the Kumbh are - CCTV camera, Live streaming important places and events like aarti, and GPS tagging. Google has also been known to provide free internet on some of the strategic sites.
CCTV played a major role in managing security at such a crowded event, as it allowed the management to track all the visitors and take immediate actions in case of any disturbance to the peace of the gathering. Command and control rooms also witnessed the use of digital technology for the enhancement of security. Apart from these, regular online facilities too have been availed by the attendees with respect to online booking of rail and air tickets, hotel rooms, online payment of bills, online money transfers, calling ambulance or police in case of emergencies, etc. The Digital Baba was a particular centre of attraction at the Kumbh Mela. At the hands of the Digital Baba, was the awakening of the ecstatic culture of the Sangam. It symbolized the kamandal, khapper, trishul or sword instead of the MacBook, Trypod,
Selfie Stick, the expensive iPhone. CLOUD SURVEY
THE INDIAN CIO CLOUD SURVEY The Largest Ever Indian Cloud Survey Indian cloud services market in India has been witnessing rapid growth and is likely to surpass $5 billion by 2021 from the current estimate of approximately $3 billion. Over sixty percent of Indian businesses are using cloud services in various forms such as SaaS, PaaS and IaaS, They are deriving major benefits including scalability on demand, optimised resource utilisation, faster speed to market, cost savings, low to nil capital expenditure through pay-as-you-use model. While the country is witnessing rapid growth of cloud adoption, the market is witnessing intense competition from global cloud players such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google, IBM Softlayer, Alibaba and home grown cloud service providers – CtrlS (Cloud4C), Netmagic and others. Today more than ever, CIOs are playing a pivotal role in steering digital transformation within their respective organisations to align with business objectives and cloud has been playing a key role as a force multiplier. We therefore initiated a CIO Cloud survey to understand how the cloud players stack up. The survey focused on preference, their current cloud provider, SLAs, customer support, security, reliability, technical support and pricing effectiveness. A total of 5,481 Indian CIOs and IT Leaders took part in this detailed survey. Our research team analysed the survey critically to present the following summarised survey outcomes. Interestingly, AWS, Microsoft Azure, CtrlS (Cloud4C), Google appear to be the frontrunners in Indian Cloud market followed by IBM and Netmagic.

WORKFORCE ANALYTICS: THE GAME CHANGER FOR HR INDUSTRY With the amount of data generated, it is vital that businesses grasp meaningful insight from data and analytics – but what key areas should be focused on for best results, and how could this enhance the backbone of your company, the supply chain.
By: Deepti Moolya, Happiest Minds Technologies
F
or many years organizations have used technology to drive tactical information to manage the Workforce. However not been able to capitalize on the huge amount of data which can be converted into actionable insights. The rise of information and increase of millennial Workforce and wave of digital transformation has increased the need for ‘Workforce Analytics.’ According to Peter Sondergaard, Vice President of Gartner, “Information is the fuel of the 21st century, and data analytics the combustion engine.” Organizations today, face many challenges related to workforce, right from hiring, training, rewarding retaining along with old traditional systems, to consolidated global reporting across geo’s, and self-service reporting, etc. To overcome these common issues, the primary goal of any successful Organization should be “to place a right people for a right position at the right time” says Lily Mok, research director for Gartner EXP’s. Analytics is the best tool to achieve this goal. These advanced set of data analytics tools and metrics will analyze patterns and causal relations based on performance and improvement of the organization and individual. Analyze recruitment, staffing, L&D, fills, cost per hire, accession rate, retention rate, add rate, replacement rate, time to start and offer acceptance rate, compensation, 36 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD MARCH 2019
etc. And then build a predictive model that can be used by the Human Resource team to improve employee performance and get a good return on the investment. Two key components of HR Analytics: I) The Necessity arises from the need to have a core human management team with current industry expertise. Earlier the concentration on “intangible assets” did not even amount to 50 percent of the value creation and today it is almost 65 percent. II) An opportunity is when there is readily available data available virtually that can give information about the management and the development of the people. With the brains of Analytics, these data that can give some powerful assistance by transforming them into some valuable, actionable insights and intelligence.
2. Understand the data or Information required to measure: It is important to look at two aspects: • Review the data: With the huge amount of structured and unstructured data exists in various geo’s, you may need to identify what data your organization has and who is using it. • Ask the right questions-It means what you want to tell larger audience using this data, it depends on strategic goals of the organization and what are the priorities of the business. 3. Look for insights from data and reports and turn into meaningful actions. The data or reports used may be useful, but it will be impactful when analyzed properly. Examples: If the time of hire for niche skill has gone up from 60days to 90days, what does that mean, what actions do you need to take?
STEPS IN HR ANALYTICS:
HR ANALYTICS FRAMEWORK:
While HR is striving to be a strategic function focusing on HR analytics, Deloitte devised analytics models to assess various programs, using workforce analytics to assess leadership orientation, change inclination, training needs analysis etc. As Deloitte’s Global Human Capital Trends 2016 report notes, “77 percent of executives now rate people analytics as a key priority … In response, companies are building people analytics teams, rapidly replacing legacy systems, and combining separate analytics groups within HR into one strategic function.” The same report found that 44 percent of surveyed companies use workforce data to predict business performance. They also use benchmarking to measure both efficiency and effectiveness of these programs. They recommend a four-step “issue/facts/ understanding/actions” process, emulating basic methodology by leveraging analytics both classify the opportunities or issues and evaluate the impact of actions taken. 1. Start with workforce issue at hand: Whether dealing with engagement or retention, identify the issue and then check if you have the information needed to measure.
HR&OD experts identify the data sources. Then the HR data model is defined through data integration and normalization. The data is then stored, from the data storage, HR&OD experts identify the objectives. After which, the analytics experts formalize them using data mining, statistics, machine learning, etc., then they interpret results and report to the executives then according to the result executive team allows them to do the required changes in the organization. From the above figure, we can see that after implementing HR Analytics significant jumps in relationships such as job satisfaction vs. customer satisfaction; job satisfaction vs. attraction; stress vs. productivity; and conflict vs. Productivity. These Analytics help the organization to be healthy and wealthy as well. Starting from Hire to Retire in the spectrum of variables could be measured to check the health of the organization. 1. Recruitment: Net Hire Ratio, Cost per Hire, Source Mix, New Hire Rate through Internal/ External, Rehire Rate, Interview/Offer Ratio etc., Average Sign on Bonus Ratio could be measured 2. Internal: Promotion Speed Ratio at Various levels and bands, IJP Ratio, Cross – Function
BI & ANALYTICS

Mobility could be measured. 3. Retention: Vol/Invol Attrition YTD (Year to Date), MTD (Month to Date) through Performance Bands, Levels could be measured. 4. Performance Management: Average Performance Rating, Participation Rate, Rating distribution etc could be measured. 5. Training: Training per HR, per FTE (Full Time Equivalent), expense per employee, quality could be measured. 6. Compensation & Benefits: Comp Cost per
FTE, Overtime Rate, Bonus Rate, Average Cost Rate for Contractors, Benefits exp per FTE, ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) could be measured. 7. Workforce: Average Workforce Headcount, Age, Span of control, Geo& location split are measured. But there are few common mistakes which one should avoid during driving and exploring the HR Analytics. They are: 1. Keeping a data live even when it has no clear
business reason for it. When the data does not have any important objective or specific business goal, keeping it alive is a common mistake. These data should be deleted from the data storage. 2. Assessing workforce only on simple measures such as grades and test scores often fail to accurately predict the success. One should give the employee a hypothetical condition or give him a challenging job and judge the success based on the efficiency and accuracy. After which you can analyze whether he/she fits right into the role or not. 3. Analyzing HR efficiency metrics only while failing to address the impact of talent management on business performance. HR efficiency metrics are the measurements used to determine the value and effectiveness of HR initiatives, turnover, training, return on investment, costs of labor, and expenses per employee. To achieve success in HR Analytics one needs to keep few things in mind. 1. Transparency of business and workforce information. 2. Analytics as a journey, not an end. 3. Develop a culture of data-driven decision-making. 4. Empower line managers to decide on this, not just HR and L&D. There’s no doubt with HR Analytics that any organization which can attract the right competencies, manage talent effectively, utilize capacity efficiently, and retain people and set itself up for long-term success. According to the above statistics surveyed by MIT and IBM, Multinational companies using HR Analytics can witness 8% higher sales growth, 24% higher net operating income and 58% higher sales per employee. Which, proves the importance of HR Analytics tool today. MARCH 2019 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD 37

being cost effective; saving an organization on the considerable spending on hardware and storage solutions. Due to the thrust for digitization from the government, organizations now have the backing required to transition to new intelligent solutions. With Citrix’s workspace, network, analytics and virtualization portfolio, we are able to support organizations in upgrading their IT infrastructure. We can therefore say that Citrix not only has the cloud solutions that customers require but is also playing a key role in helping them in their overall digital transformation journey.
What are the real CIOs infrastructure challenges that are being resolved by Cloud? The cloud infrastructure and its definition have evolved over the years. Although the term has been around for almost a decade, the concept has just recently started gaining popularity and momentum. Moving to cloud may seem complicated at first, but the transition can help mitigate a series of long-term problems including misplaced IT focus, high data maintenance cost, outdated technology and poor communication. To CIOs, moving to the cloud is a chance to overcome internal limitations and improve their value proposition. The benefits of a cloud-based network significantly outweigh the benefits of staying with an onsite solution.
HARDWARE ARCHITECTURE Cloud reduces or eliminates the need for businesses to purchase equipment and build out and operate data centres. This enables
saving on hardware facilities and other expenses required out of traditional computing and helps gain the benefits of services like analytics, AI, and the opportunity to collaborate outside the business premises.
FLEXIBILITY AND COLLABORATION With cloud, employees can carry their data and access it wherever they go. Cloud adoption not only makes businesses more flexible, but it allows them to use their personal devices to access this information if need be. Business can use file-sharing applications to collaborate effectively, despite geographic limitations. Therefore, one of the major advantages of cloud computing for businesses is the increased mobility. This is particularly valuable in an age when employees desire flexibility in their schedules and work environment. Businesses that operate on the cloud can provide employees with options to work on the go, from home, across all devices. With the adoption of cloud, organizations small and large alike can find solutions to their problems. It enables a stable, reliable, and scalable data infrastructure, while helping you store, process and analyse data from multiple sources within your business, giving the opportunity to focus on innovation and growth. Provide a brief description of your Cloud Capabilities. Can you enumerate your cloud offerings? At Citrix, we are favorably positioned to help organizations in their transition towards cloud-based solutions. Citrix Cloud services
have received widespread acceptance in India and across the world. Organizations have realized cloud’s potential owing to delivery of flexible, fast, and seamless access to a host of work apps and data. Citrix Cloud is a platform that hosts and controls Citrix services and connects to your resources through the Citrix Cloud Connector on any cloud or infrastructure i.e. - on-premises, public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, allowing you to create, manage, and deploy workspaces with apps and data to your end-users. With the emergence of new technologies, organisations globally and locally are evolving in terms of the way they operate. Workstyles and workspaces are now more aligned to accelerate overall growth by leveraging digital solutions like cloud. Considering the various advantages and its seamless alignment with the existing IT structure to ensure minimal disturbance, cloud is truly enabling workspace transformation. What is your road map for next 12 -36 months? While 2018 was a year of establishing our strategy and consolidating to enable rapid growth, we believe that 2019 will be the year where Citrix will have the biggest opportunity to redefine itself. 2019 will be the year we move beyond virtualisation. We aim to significantly increase our market visibility by moving away from being just about virtualization, thereby ensuring differentiation in terms of our positioning. Encouraging partners to reach beyond core virtualization products can be a potential game-changer for Citrix. Citrix has always been known to deliver virtualization products. However, now is the time for us to also cater to 70% of organizations out there who don’t need virtualization. The offering that is opening these new lines of partner revenue are Citrix Workspace inside of Citrix Cloud. In this evolving landscape, Citrix finds itself well positioned to support organizations through these changes. Citrix Workspace enveloped in a Citrix Cloud is the tool that will help us achieve this. We are going to be able to expand our market presence by being able to meet the needs of more users. Workspace is a client-side app for any device and OS, delivering a user portal for ingesting all Citrix back-end services as well as loads of apps from popular SaaS vendors. The Citrix Workspace offering has enabled us to work in sync with our partners and expand our scope of offerings. With the proliferation and growth of digital tools through technologically enhanced workspaces, we look forward to working closely with our partners in 2019 to achieve our objective. he rise of new age startups in the last few years laid the establishment of the fact that businesses need agility. To be in an agile environment, it is essential that IT—which is the backbone of all progressive enterprises—enables them to focus on business expansion instead of becoming a roadblock. The one conundrum CIOs face is whether to go onpremise or cloud to achieve high availability, security and agility for business critical applications. Often, going on-premise seems like an obvious decision for CIOs under the impression that it would be easier and more accessible, however, it comes with multiple challenges that lead to roadblocks. On the other hand, cloud enables them to significantly reduce capital expenditure, adopt agility, get past the technology obsolescence worries and yet achieve data integrity and security. When it comes to cloud, most enterprises find it difficult to decide the right enterprise cloud partner for SAP S/4HANA hosting. CIOs spend a lot of time and resources in determining factors that are of priority to them. Agility, deep understanding and competence, high availability and support experiences are a few of the many reasons that dominate the decision making amongst the CIOs. What has been your experience with Cloud and Amazon Web Services? Cloud has allowed us to do many things which we were not planning to do earlier. It has enabled us to scale up and down our infrastructure as per our needs. Basically, all services and solutions that weren’t available to us when we were doing things in our own Data Centre. It gives us the ability to do a lot of things faster in a very cost-effective way and that has helped us in doing our business. How has Cloud changed your business operations as compared to when you were on your own servers and how has that changed things for the better? When we were using our own data centres, we had a limitation in terms of admin infrastructure. We could not scale our infrastructure according to our demands. For example, there were days when we were getting lots of hits on our CRM for the website, and our systems would slow down which would result in poor customer experience. Once we moved to the cloud it allowed us to scale up the infrastructure and downgrade it as and when required. It has allowed us to move away the things that are not core to us. We don’t have to rely
on the expertise of certain individuals. Moving the business to Cloud has allowed us to focus on our core businesses. It has also allowed us to have a security mechanism built into the cloud. Why did you decide to go ahead with AWS for your cloud services? We chose AWS because we realized that it is a very stable platform. We took references from some of the other users and found out that their services and their uptime is very good. The performance of the servers is also good and their services are reliable. There is also a bunch of services which are available off-the-shelf. For example, they have a database service which you can directly plug in to your applications. The fact that the AWS network is pretty strong also helps, because when you start using their services, the department of AWS will help you in getting on-board and solving your problems. As of now, are you completely on the Cloud or are you using a mix of in-house services and the Cloud? If it’s a mix how do you distinguish what will go on the Cloud and what will stay with you in your in-house server? Currently, we are using the mixed services. So,
some of the services are hosted in our data centres and some of the services are on the Cloud. The services which we have in our own Data centre are mostly used by our corporate users. So, any service which is used only or mostly by the corporate users are hosted on our data centre. Other services that are customer facing or partner facing are stored in to the Cloud. What were the challenges or fears that came to your mind when you were thinking of switching to the cloud? There were multiple fears when we decided to move to the Cloud. The first was with respect to data security. Second, whether the services on our data centre will work when we move services to the Cloud. Whether the kind of reliability that we have in our own data centre, will continue on the cloud or not? So, this is why we started moving the services very slowly. We took some services and moved them to the cloud from our own data centre. We saw that those services were stable and they were working as per expectations. Then we started moving more of them. That’s how we migrated to the cloud. To read the complete article, log on to www.enterpriseitworld.com MARCH 2019 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD
