ON OUR WAY TO CREATE CIO200 Privileged to Profile 200 IT leaders

Finally, the ambitious project of profiling 200 CIOs is over with this issue. But, it is a fun knowing about these highprofile IT leaders individually and knowing their contributions to their respective organizations and to the economy of the country. To my understanding these people whom we have chosen to be Change Agents are really change agents who have brought in new ideas to bolster their core infrastructure to enable the business growth. These people have indirectly donned the hats of ‘businessenabler’ apart from being the technology heads. This has helped us to organize ChangeAgents 200 Summit & Awards in September 8th 2017. The objective of bringing all these IT leaders together is to recognize their efforts and contribution to the industry. I am assuming that these IT decision makers help to churn Rs. 25,000 crore business in India, which is a big number. Along with this, these people enable employment generation of 20% skilled labours in India too, which is

HPE, Wipro bring consumptionbased IT for customers

Cisco intros intent-based ‘intuitive’ networking Cisco unveiled intent-based networking solutions that represent one of the most significant breakthroughs in enterprise networking. The introduction is the culmination of Cisco’s vision to create an intuitive system that anticipates actions, stops security threats in their tracks, and continues to evolve and learn. It will help businesses to unlock new opportunities and solve previously unsolvable challenges in an era of increasing connectivity and distributed technology. “Network has never been more critical to business success, but it’s also never been under more pressure,” said Chuck Robbins, chief executive officer for Cisco. “By building a more intuitive network, we are creating an intelligent platform with unmatched security for today and for the future that propels businesses forward and

creates new opportunities for people and organizations everywhere.” Companies are managing their networks through traditional IT processes that are not sustainable in this new age. Cisco’s approach creates an intuitive system that constantly learns, adapts, automates and protects, to optimize network operations and defend against evolving threat landscape. With vast majority of the world’s internet traffic running on Cisco networks, the company has used its unique position to capture and analyze this valuable data by providing IT with insights to spot anomalies and issues in real time, without compromising privacy. By automating edge of the network, embedding machine learning and analytics, Cisco is making the unmanageable manageable allowing IT to focus on strategic business needs.

HPE and Wipro announced a new global go-tomarket agreement to provide joint customers with on-premises IT infrastructure at flexible consumption-based pricing. This collaboration will leverage HPE’s Flexible Capacity and Wipro’s infrastructure-as-a-service offerings to address the increasing customer demand for consumption based IT. Some enterprises have turned to the public cloud to fulfill these new demands, attracted by the IT-as-aservice model that allows customers to pay as they go only for the technology resources that they use. While some workloads may be right for the public cloud, others – which may require higher security, compliance and service levels – are best kept on-premises. Through the new HPE and Wipro partnership, customers can take advantage of an on-premises solution that provides these benefits, along with the affordability of a pay-per-use model. “Businesses need an agile IT foundation that can scale up quickly to accommodate growth and power new initiatives,” said Rajesh Dhar, Senior Director, Pointnext, HPE India.

About The Book

Capgemini has announced the findings of “The Disconnected Customer: What digital customer experience leaders teach us about reconnecting with customers,” The research reveals a gap between how businesses and consumers perceive the quality of their customer experience. While 75% of organizations believe themselves to be customer-centric, only 30% of consumers agree. Nearly 31% say they face a challenge in keeping up with the rapidly evolving technology landscape and consumers’ digital expectations. Only

three in ten of the 125 organizations identified in the study are matching customers’ expectations. For remaining 70%, rewards for delivering a better experience are high as 81%. indicate that they are willing to spend more with an organization for a better cust xp, and 9% consumers would inc. spend by more than a half. Consumers in India (98%) and China (95%) are most likely to reward good experiences with increased spend, while those in Germany (61%) and The Netherlands (72%) are least likely.

World Retail Banking Report‘17 embraces Open banking through APIs The Open Banking evolution continues to unfold. Banks risk disintermediation if they do not carefully choose their customerinteraction business model role, and use application programming interfaces (APIs), according to the World Retail Banking Report 2017 (WRBR 2017) from Capgemini and Efma. “FinTechs are now earning higher positive customer experience scores than traditional banks, and banks are openly seeking to collaborate with FinTechs. Open Banking offers banks an opportunity to retain and grow their customer base as they add the varied services of third parties to personalize and customize products and services.

WRBR 2017 details how APIs offer a pathway toward Open Banking, where FinTechs and financial institutions collaborate rather than compete to create customer-centric solutions. “The most successful banks will use open APIs to generate new customer insights and revenue streams, while also improving customer experience,” said Vincent Bastid, Secretary General, Efma. “Many banks currently use APIs to improve information flow between legacy systems. In fact, we are already seeing early adopter banks asserting their role in Open Banking by proactively making their systems and data available to third parties, creating new revenue streams.”

Being a very first project of implementing Smart Gas Meters in India was the most exciting part. The project focused on meter reading through hand held devices without visiting individual houses. The separate network with redundant servers including backup.

Plans for 2017: Majority of the technologies in place, this year the primary focus is on designing an information security framework through ISMS certification. s delivery methodologies, Agile and DevOps both focus on IT productivity. The first approach encourages Development and Operations to synchronize fast-paced development of production-ready code, with the operations like testing, deployment and management in order to prevent backlogs. DevOps stresses on effective collaboration and communication between the multiple stakeholders thereby creating a culture 50 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD    AUGUST 2017

that enables optimized release cycles of highquality and thoroughly-tested end-products. All Agile models in practice, follows concepts and principles which can be integrated with DevOps e.g. continuous build, continuous integration, Continuous delivery, incremental testing, etc. Let’s take a closer look at a few of these models SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) The Scaled Agile Framework is developed by Dean Leffingwell and became very popular in no time. This framework is a combination of existing

lean and agile principles with highly structured and prescriptive method that helps large enterprises to align their entire organization to agile. To deliver value to the user, SAFe has already provisioned for DevOps to focus on tighter integration between development and deployment. So for team’s implementing SAFe, one can easily apply inbuilt DevOps by leveraging the framework guidelines about DevOps team and System Team to integrate the Ops, Dev Teams. DAD (Disciplined Agile Delivery) DAD framework provides a cohesive approach to agile solution delivery. It is a hybrid approach which suggests strategies from many Agile flavors like Extreme Programming (XP), Kanban, Lean Software Development, Unified Process (UP) and many other methods. DAD is a non-proprietary, freely available framework. DevOps culture is in the core theme of the DAD framework. This framework covers all key aspects DevOps principles in operations strategies, teaming strategies, general strategies, and release management strategies. In-depth understanding of guidelines of this framework will help to develop strategies and effective correlation to DevOps for your organization. LeSS (Large Scale Scrum) Introduced by Bas Vodde and Craig Larman, LeSS framework, helps scrum team to scale up without adding additional processes or overheads. This framework helps organizations to dissolve unnecessary complexity and solving in problems in simpler ways. Unlike SAFe, LeSS framework does not call out DevOps explicitly on it big picture but concepts like Technical excellence, Structure and Adoption cover key aspects of DevOps guidelines and principles. Technical excellence covers Continuous integration, Continuous delivery, while Structure talks about Ops and support teams role, and Adoption includes continuous Improvement. To implement DevOps along with LeSS, customization of LeSS concepts are required along with effective correlation of these concepts with DevOps principles. You need to define team and design specific roles to achieve desired benefits. One needs to demonstrate detailed awareness of DevOps concepts and respective agile framework to achieve best results from IT optimization. Today, optimization of this culture has started talking of “NoOps” wherein IT environment can become automated and abstracted from the underlying infrastructure to such an extent that the team can be better utilized than for just managing software. Many organizations are trying to optimize by rescheduling their day or night Ops. However, Murphy ’s Law still applies and it would do us well to be careful in selecting the right model in solving the specific problem.
