A healthy business Nurse-turned-agent focused on helping first-time buyers aving lives and selling homes are Kalynthia Addison’s area of expertise, and the registered nurse-turnedRealtor is focusing on the latter with her business, Addison Realty. Addison founded the agency two years ago, but her start in the industry dates back further. “I began my journey in real estate in 2015,” she said. “I started with another company here in McComb but at the end of 2017 I made the decision to be a broker and a leader and that is when I started Addison Realty.” After getting established, Addison added her name to the hundreds who work in the area. However, she doesn’t look at it as competition with others but as competition with herself. “I’m new and young. I’m 38years-old,” she said. “When a buyer is looking for someone to help them, there are certain qualities that they look at when finding an agent. The buyer is who I have to impress and I can’t worry about whoever else is in the market.” Addison Realty LLC. specializes in helping first-time home buyers, and Addison said it is all about making the customer feel comfortable with the process. “Residential is a big thing (for me),” she said. isha Thompson and Katherine Thompson, she said. When it comes to the area that she works in, Addison is not limited in Mississippi as she is willing to go anywhere in the Magnolia State. “I have had sales in Hattiesburg and Jackson,” she said. “I will go north, south, east or west. There are 82 counties in
with my services.” Addison has two main influences that got her into the real estate business, her father Eugene Matthews, who worked in the timber industry for over 40 years and taught her about land, and her brother Ron Matthews, who has been a construction engineer in Metairie, La., for 20 years.

And while her family influenced her, she also uses a past experience as a customer in real estate to help her. “When I was getting ready to buy my house, me and my husband about 15 years ago, we had a Realtor at first and they didn’t listen to us. If you tell them what you want, they have to listen to what you want. Real estate is the people, not the paper. A lot of Realtors don’t focus on what the clients are asking for.”

Over the years, Addison has learned the value of hard work. With everyone dealing the coronavirus pandemic, Addison took a break from real estate to help out as a nurse with patients in need in the New Orleans area. “I’ve been a registered nurse for 17 years and in March of this year, I took a break from real estate and I went to New Orleans to help with the COVID-19 cases,” she said. “I stayed down there for six weeks and helped.” But the virus has also somewhat affected her as a real estate agent, including how she showed properties to clients. “I use the tool of the internet as No. 1,” Addison said. “I have a business page on Facebook and I do the live virtual tours. I bring the house to them by just clicking on Facebook and taking a tour and going through the whole house with me and I give them the information there." The pandemic has also had an impact on the financial aspects of the market by pushing interest rates down, making now a good time to finance. She and her husband Kendrick have three children, 22-year-old Kendriana, Keymiah, who tragically passed away in 2014, and two-year-old Kylan. Overall, Addison takes a lot of pride in her working and catering to the needs and wants of her clients. “Real estate is very important to me,” she said. “And I’ve been a nurse for 17 years so I’ve taken a change in careers. This is what I want to do 100 percent.”
