Strength in numbers Rushing’s merger with Wild nets fruitful partnership BY TRAVIS CONNELLEY
Two years ago, two of the top real estate companies in Pike County joined forces to form one big company when Wild Realty merged with Doug Rushing Realty. “I really don’t recall who made the first step. I probably started it,” said Watkins “Noggin” Wild, the former owner of Wild Realty. “I had been looking for someone to merge with for a while, something that would be a benefit to both companies.” For Wild, it was a move that he wanted to make at that point in his career since he wanted the business to continue and he didn’t have any family members that wanted to take it over. He turned toward someone who he had known in the business for several years in Doug Rushing Real Estate’s Alan Bridevaux, who is Rushing’s son-in-law. “One day Alan and I were just talking and I just said, ‘Alan have you ever though about joining forces?’ And that is how it all just started. We actually started talking about a year before the actual merger,” Wild said. Looking back, Wild believes it fits well because the merger heightens the firm’s expertise on two types of real estate. “One of the things that made it attractive is that they (Rushing) have always been a leader in land sales and rural homes and we have strong presence in subdivisions and homes in
town,” Wild said. “And we both have some commercial experience and it just seemed like it was a good complementary type of thing. There was some overlap, but I think that it enhanced what we were able to offer from both companies.” Wild said another aspect that

ous challenges over the years, with the latest being the coronavirus pandemic, yet Wild said that it hasn’t made too big of an impact on business but has presented some small challenges. “It is surprisingly well,” he said. “We’ve seen a configuration of home sales and land sales. A lot of times when we’ve seen things like COVID or hurricanes like Katrina, all of these things affect people’s lives and they affect financial markets. What we’ve seen is people who invest in stocks and bonds pull those out of the market and invest in land.” Wild said people whose credit, finances or employment have taken a hit due to the pandemic may have a tougher time entering the housing market, but for those who haven’t now is a great time to buy. “Interest rates have been low for a long time and they went up for a little bit but with all that has happened, they have gone back down again,” Wild said. And Wild believes Rushing is the best choice for the customer due to a number of reasons. “We offer some marketing exposure that I think is exceptional,” he said. “If you do a Google search, then you will see that we are consistently up there at the top or near the top in the rankings.
