International Women’s Day: the new powerhouse?

There is no shortage of remarkable Saudi women in our special Women’s Day issue. From incredible work done by royals to Saudi women holding top positions in both government and the private sector, there is a lot to be proud of.

It’s easy to be critical. The number of females in active work across the region is 24.6% - a considerable rise over the last few years, but still way below the global average of 47.8%.

But on the plus side, in the UAE, the literacy rate of women is 95.8%, with Emirati women making up 77% of university enrolments and 64% of all graduates in the UAE - proving that they are more than capable and qualified to receive the same professional recognition as their male counterparts. This pattern is increasingly being repeated across the region.

A celebration of Changemakers

Welcome to our special issue celebrating female visionaries. Choosing just 50 has been no easy task. Maybe a decade ago it would have been. But right now, there are literally thousands of incredible women making a huge impact across so many sectors.

When it comes to success at ministerial level, the UAE continues to lead the way, the UAE Minster of State for Entrepreneurship H.E Alia Bint Abdulla Al Mazrouei a shining example of this.

In business, yet again it is the female achievers grabbing all the headlines. Pure Health founder Shaista Asif and Joelle Mardinian have been great torchbearers for

entrepreneurial success. But in 2025, we also celebrate seeing women at the top of major corporations. Standard Chartered, ROSHN Group, Multiply, Abu Dhabi Airports and NEOM are just a few of many companies with females at the very top, or in very senior leadership positions.

But the list also shows the full spectrum of success. The UAE astronaut Nora Al Matrooshi, the young superstar Aldhabi AlMheiri and the brilliant student Mahra Al Hosani are just some of the standout names.

In truth, we could have published 1,000 names. We hope you enjoy reading about the 50 we chose just as much as we did writing them.

In recognition of the MENA region digital business landscape, the E-Business Awards by Entrepreneur Middle East will take place at Habtoor Palace Dubai, on April 24th 2025, at 8PM April 24th, 2025 I Habtoor Palace Dubai
