LIFE IS A JOURNEY.

Editor’s Note /

DOES ANYONE NEED TO GO TO UNIVERSITY ANYMORE?

GEMS Education has opened one of the world’s most expensive schools in Dubai. But will any of the students want to carry on their education after?

Okay. So, I will start by showing my age. When I was 16 years old –42 years ago– I had the same dreams and thought patterns as everyone else my age. Finish school, do well in what were then called A Levels and get a place in a good university. Get a degree, then get a job.

By the age of 26, if things went well for me, I could be on the road to financial security. A house, a car, a family.

The key number here is 26: that was seen as around the time that you are a proper adult and need to have achieved some element of success and stability in life. Today – and I know this not just because I have teenage kids but so do most of my friends – that magic number is 19.

Teenagers have seen many people their own age become multi-millionaires, in some cases even billionaires, thanks to the world of crypto. They see 17-year-olds becoming world famous through Instagram, some of whom already have a string of businesses and brands to their name.

The age of full financial stability is for most teenagers 20– and that is a worst-case scenario. For many, this means that the idea of a university education is an absolute non-starter.

This is more significant this month because GEMS Education has just opened a new campus in Dubai. Dubbed the “School of the Future” the US$100 million campus is charging $56,000 a year for places. More than most universities.

But here’s the thing: Isn’t GEMS just being super clever because it realizes that many kids today want to get straight into business after school – they are no longer programmed to be successful in their midtwenties. Success is needed now. No need to pay for an expensive university, you might as well pay for an expensive school.

Billionaires like Michael Dell, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs are famous for dropping out of college, while Richard Branson didn’t even get that far. There is no shortage of legendary entrepreneurs who never got a degree.

I suspect that the current teenage focus on instant success will lead to far less people going to university, and even fewer chasing masters degrees. On the plus side, we could be on the cusp of the greatest production line of young entrepreneurs the world has ever seen.

THE ART OF ELEVATION

The Ice Cool Billionaire

FIVE Holdings will be worth around USD$2 billion when it lists on the stock market in 2025. The company’s founder credits the success to his own changed lifestyle.

Kabir Mulchandani is a changed man. We are in the dining area of his private office at the flagship FIVE Palm Jumeirah, and the founder of the multibillion dollar FIVE Holdings doesn’t want to talk too much about the numbers.

“Ice baths, that’s the key,” he says.

Ice baths? “Yes, at the same time every day, wherever I am, whatever I am doing. It helps focus the mind, and keep me feeling young and healthy.”

The ice baths – and a fair amount of yoga – are clearly working.

FIVE Holdings is becoming known as a ‘Disneyworld for adults.’ The 1,700 rooms across four properties are going to be part of USD$2 billion IPO next year.

ICE BATHS, THAT’S THE KEY. YES, AT THE SAME TIME EVERY DAY, WHEREVER I AM, WHATEVER I AM DOING. IT HELPS FOCUS THE MIND, AND KEEP ME FEELING YOUNG AND HEALTHY.”
→ Kabir Mulchandani is the founder and Chairman of FIVE Holdings.
WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER, WE DON’T REALLY NEED TO DO AN IPO FOR MONEY OR GROWTH…THE REAL REASON IS THE EMPLOYEE STOCK OPTION PROGRAM. I HAVE MOVED $200 MILLION WORTH OF MY SHARES TO BE GIVEN TO THE EMPLOYEES.”

Founded by Kabir Mulchandani, FIVE Holdings has redefined traditional hospitality and entertainment in the region with disruptive flair, capturing the glamour and vibe of Dubai. Acclaimed for its ‘Global Sustainable Entertainment Ecosystem’ that fuses high-energy, musically driven immersive entertainment with homegrown dining venues and eco-conscious luxury hospitality, FIVE Holdings excels in delivering distinctive guest experiences as a result.

He has over 3,000 employees, and some pretty spectacular hotels: FIVE Palm Jumeirah, FIVE Jumeriah Village, FIVE LUXE and FIVE Zurich in Switzerland, Destino Five Ibiza and El Hotel Pacha in Spain, Pacha Ibiza nightclub, FIVE MODE and The Pacha Collection Fashion Lines; and a range of other assets including Toy Room clubs and WooMoon Storytellers. The brand also encompasses FIVE music, a joint venture with The Warner. The numbers are also impressive. FIVE Holdings’ occupancy rate for the nine months ending September 2024, stood at 86%. From 2019 to end of September 2024, total revenue experienced a substantial growth of approximately 239%, increasing from AED451 million to AED1.5 billion.

In Q3 2024, FIVE Holdings’ hospitality segment achieved remarkable results with revenue reaching AED507 million and EBITDA totaling

AED187 million. This represents a substantial 156% increase in revenue as well as EBITDA compared to Q3 2023, when revenue was AED198 million and EBITDA was AED73 million.

In nine-months ended 30th September 2024, the first complete season in which The Pacha Group properties were fully operational following the acquisition, the Company achieved a total revenue of AED409 million, marking a robust 14% increase compared to AED359 million during the same period last year. The EBITDA amounted to AED155 million, representing an 11% improvement from AED140 million in nine-months ended 30th September 2023.

But what makes Mulchandani all the more unique is his increasing focus not just on living a healthy ice-bath inspired lifestyle himself, but a huge focus on employee wealth fare. By that, he doesn’t just mean adding nice juice machines, but making a lot of the more junior ones seriously wealthy next year.

Mulchandani says, the company’s stock market listing isn’t being done for the usual purposes of fund raising and expansion. “We are all in this together, we don’t really need to do an IPO for money or growth. We are generating a significant amount of cash. The real reason is the employee stock option program. I have moved $200 million worth of my shares to be given to the employees. This

was done after the bond,” he said earlier in 2024.

Which means that approximately 10% of the company is being handed to staff – everyone from the front desk to the CEO.

“I think this will give them a sense of ownership,” Mulchandani explained at the time. What it will also do, he says, is create “around 50” new millionaires in Dubai, all of them staff, working at various levels in the company.

And it all comes back to his way of life today. Yoga, sustainability and philanthropy are the buzz words.

“I am able to find calmness and solutions. I am in my zone. I don’t think I’ve felt this good, especially since the last two years,” he said recently.

It has been quite a journey, but FIVE has now carved out a unique market for itself. The secret of his success?

“What we’ve been able to do exceptionally well is entertainment hospitality. This is a Disneyworld for adults.

Alongside that fundamental journey, we’ve also built a highly sustainable product. When we started in 2017 it was just about making it work. You have all these super strong competitors with huge market share, so you look at what space nobody is in. And nobody was in this space. The way we designed our hotel, with a lot of F&B, was always for entertainment. But I don’t think even we estimated how strong our story could become.”

LEGACY BUILDING A

Almost six decades since she embarked on a journey to save the natural earth, Dr. Jane Goodall has become an awe-inspiring figure to many around the world. At nearly 91 years of age, her passion remains unwavering.

B/Sustainability

Whether in the glossy pages of the National Geographic, wildlife documentaries on television, or a carefully edited reel on one’s Instagram feed, Dr. Jane Goodall’s work has permeated into the lives of many across generations, and, indeed, the globe. It was perhaps most evident to me when, in late January 2025, I sat across from the renowned conservationist in a brightly lit room at Terra, the sustainability hub at Expo City Dubai, awaiting my turn to speak with her. The room, filled with journalists and reporters, carried a palpable nervous energyall of which translated into giddily uttered phrases like, “I’m such a fan!” or “It’s such an honor to meet you!” by every single person who got to interview her. To see how people across so many different age groups have been enamored by Dr. Goodall is perhaps the easiest litmus test of the truth ingrained in her life’s work. “My work is my purpose in life,” she says. “It has evolved; at first it was learning about chimpanzee behavior in the wild which was not easy but it was my passion, and there was the thrill of discovery.”

→ Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and a United Nations Messenger of Peace, is a world-renowned ethologist and conservationist.

}Indeed, Dr. Goodall’s journey began in July 1960 at the Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania (which, at the time, was referred to as Tanganyika) where she studied wild chimpanzees. Her research on the behavior of these primates, which has often been labelled “revolutionary” by academics and researchers, continues to aid scientific studies in primatology, anthropology, and biodiversity conservation. It was in the midst of her 25-year-long research at Gombe, in 1977, that she launched the Jane Goodall Institute for Wildlife Research, Education and Conservation, a nonprofit organization that promotes the protection of chimpanzees and sustainable environmental practices.

}“When I left Gombe, having learned about the problems faced by chimps, I also learned about the plight of so many Africans living in and around the chimp habitat,” Dr. Goodall recalls. “And I am passionate about alleviating the poverty of these people. It is poverty

-the struggle to survivethat so often causes destruction of the environment- for example, to make money from cutting down trees for timber or charcoal, or making space to grow more food. So I started Tacare, the Jane Goodall Institute’s program for community-led conservation (i.e. asking them how we can help, providing microfinance, scholarships for secondary education and so on). And then I started the Roots & Shoots

}The 1991-founded Roots & Shoots launched its UAE branch in January 2024 at the aforementioned Terra, which is nestled in the heart of Dubai’s Expo City.

According to insights shared by Terra, the launch of Roots & Shoots UAE has led to a 20% increase in the number of schools involved in initiatives that benefit animals, people, and the environment and engagement has soared by 50%.

For Dr. Goodall, who famously wrote that “we are

enthusiasm from the UAE’s youth would have certainly been appreciated. When asked how the young generations can stay committed to building a sustainable future, Dr. Goodall stresses upon the importance of consistency. “It’s difficult to give blanket advice because young people may move away [from their initial purpose and vision] for different reasons; we don’t really know,” she tells me. “But if you start off understanding

original thinking and purpose. You may be doing other things -you may not be spending your entire time working towards conservation or the environment- but as long as you remember it, it’s okay.”

}Dr. Goodall’s association with Terra went one step further when, last month, she unveiled the Jane Goodall Pollinator Garden sequestered within the sustainability center’s lush space. “This is the first time I’ve worn a beekeeper’s suit, and I think having new experiences when you’re almost 91 years old is always exciting,” she told the group of people who’d gathered around her during the garden’s official launch. Designed as an ecological hub that seeks to promote biodiversity and the importance of pollinators -in this case, the UAEnative apis mellifera bees native bees- in modern ecosystems, the Jane Goodall Pollinator Garden falls under Terra’s extensive sustainability efforts in the UAE.

the environment, the natural world, and you understand that we’re gradually destroying it, then you won’t leave your

}At the intersection of sustainability and the UAE’s endeavors in this regard, however, comes the business ecosystem. Following the country’s hosting of COP28 in 2023, the spotlight on environmental, sustainable and governance (ESG) policies has perhaps never been brighter. So what advice does the renowned ethologist and conservationist Dr. Goodall have for the companies who truly

want to make a difference through their ESG frameworks? “There are plenty of businesses that are starting to do things right, working towards sustainable practices- but my advice would be to talk with those who are doing a good job,” she shares. “Of course a lot depends on what the business is. And of course we need a new business model -a new mindsetthat puts concern for future generations ahead of increasing profits. One CEO [I knew] said he had been working hard for eight years to make his business ethical for three reasons: he first was seeing the writing on the wall– that we are using up natural resources in some places faster than nature can replace. The second reason was consumer pressure – there are more people choosing to buy products created sustainably and ethically. But the third reason… It was his little girl coming home from school one day and

THERE ARE PLENTY OF BUSINESSES THAT ARE STARTING TO DO THINGS RIGHT, WORKING TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES- BUT MY ADVICE WOULD BE TO TALK WITH THOSE WHO ARE DOING A GOOD JOB.”

saying “Dad, they tell me that what you are doing is hurting the planet. That’s not true is it? Because it’s my planet.” That was the real motivation behind his efforts.”

}The anecdote Dr. Goodall shares is perhaps a great example of just why the almost-91-year-old places immense hope on younger generations to save planet earth. So I’m not surprised when, very masterfully, she steers the conversation from the complexities of ESG policies to the vices that present themselves with modern day corporate culture. “It’s all about pleasing your shareholders, and the problem is it’s become ‘power and money, power and money,’” she laments. “And if we don’t get away from that somehow or the other…I am hoping that young people will! That is why Roots and Shoots is so important. Because they [the children and youngsters] grow up realizing that to be happy, you just need to have enough. You see all these people who do really well in business, but they are stressed; they’re worried all the time, they’re afraid that they’re going to make a mistake…they’re not happy!”

}The antidote to escaping the pressures of modern life lies within realizing that less is more, iterates Dr. Goodall. “We have to stop thinking that the best things in life are to get more power and more money,” she says, her voice raising almost imperceptibly. “The best things in life are to have what you need, and not go on and on trying to get more…. If we live with what we need, if we respect nature and we respect each other, and we respect animals- and we’re content with having enough- this will make a very happy world. We will be able to live in greater harmony with nature. More, especially younger people, must learn to understand this.”

}Dr. Goodall’s words clearly hold an abundance of wisdom that many of us will be eager to hold on to. As such, I ask her -in the hopes that her words may help any entrepreneurs or startup

founders reading this- what the most challenging time of her life was. Her answer, coincidentally, contains an element that many entrepreneurs can easily resonate with: lack of funding. “There have been so many [difficult phases]!” she says. “Always one of the challenges was finding funds to do the work. But perhaps the most challenging was when four of my students, at Gombe, were kidnapped by a rebel group. They came over the lake –Lake Tanganyika– in a boat in the middle of the night and took four: three women and one man (all aged around 25). These were students doing research on chimpanzees or baboons in Gombe national park. After this, all my financial support was withdrawn. I went over to the US and had to go around to

the people who had withdrawn their support, and assure them that things would go back to normal; that thanks to the Tanzanian field staff there was only one day when there was no one working in the field. Obviously, after a harrowing few weeks, I was successful. The research is now in its 65th year, one of the three longest running and uninterrupted wild animal studies in the world. And funding is still a problem!”

}When listening to Dr. Goodall speak, there is an immediate air of calm and tranquility that surrounds you- a stark contrast to the whirlwind life she’s led so far. “My lifestyle has not been slow exactly,” she shares. “When in the field the work was physical. Once I left the field to try to help conservation, it has

been totally exhausting–since 1986. Lectures, conferences, meetings… Last year I visited 27 countries! But I eat right– vegan, no meat. And I am passionate about what I do.”

}It is that rope of passion that the nearly 91-year-old continues to hold onto as she forges ahead in her journey to create a sustainable future for all- that and, well, hope. In fact, Dr. Goodall’s reliance on hope for the future has been so emphatic, that the word itself has become a constant

feature in a lot of her work titles- her podcast is titled, “Jane Goodall Hopecast,” and in 2021 she released a book titled The Book of Hope: A Survival Guide for Trying Times. “I feel I am on this planet with a mission to try to save enough of the natural world for my grandchildren’s children and wildlife,” she declares. “And that can only happen if people have hope. My lectures and books are designed to give hope no matter how grim things get. It has become my mission.”

VISION ONE

ONE Development has taken the real estate market by storm with the launch its highly acclaimed Laguna Residence. But for ALI AL GEBELY , it is just the latest in a long line of successful ventures.

→ Ali Al Gebely is the founder and Chairman of ONE Development.
Ali Al Gebely gets straight to the point. “It’s all about success. Success and results are the most important part. I never think of it as pressure. No. You see, when I wake up every day I love what I do. It’s my passion.”

Right now, that passion is not just delivering success but reaping great rewards. The founder and chairman of ONE Development is taking the real industry by storm, with the company’s flagship Laguna Residence project selling out in record time.

But while Laguna Residence is the talk of the town, it is just part of the story: Al Gebely Holding is a symbol of visionary leadership and strategic excellence, guided by the slogan, “Growing Legacy for Generations.”

With a dynamic portfolio that spans energy, real estate, and alternative investments, it is committed to driving sustainable innovation while contributing to the UAE’s growth story.

The group’s energy vertical plays a critical role in enhancing energy security and safety across the UAE through

subsidiaries like Al Fanar, Emirates International Gas LLC, and KAD Engineering & Construction. These companies provide cutting-edge solutions in gas distribution, infrastructure development, and fire safety systems.

In alternative investments, it is embracing the future by integrating advanced technologies such as AI into key industries. Mindlab, its boutique communication consultancy, exemplifies the commitment to innovation by empowering brands with tailored strategies and creative solutions.

“Our mission across all our ventures is to deliver excellence and value, driven by a deep commitment to our employees, our partners, and the communities we serve. By prioritizing meaningful connections and adopting

Right now, much of the action is to be found at ONE Development. A UAE-born international boutique real estate company, it was founded with a bold vision: to redefine urban living by creating innovative, bespoke, and customercentric spaces that resonate with the aspirations of modern residents and investors.

The inspiration behind ONE Development’s foray into real estate stems from a recognition of the evolving needs of urban communities. Modern consumers seek more than just a place to

“IT’S ALL ABOUT SUCCESS. SUCCESS AND RESULTS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PART. I NEVER THINK OF IT AS PRESSURE. NO. YOU SEE, WHEN I WAKE UP EVERY DAY I LOVE WHAT I DO. IT’S MY PASSION.”

live; they desire spaces that align with their lifestyles, values, and long-term goals. ONE Development’s mission is to meet these needs by delivering deeply personal and functional properties that combine cutting-edge technology, sustainable practices, and timeless design.

Central to its philosophy is the mantra “Inspired by You,” which ensures that every project starts with a deep understanding of the unique dreams and requirements of its clients. This approach drives every decision the company makes, from initial planning to final delivery, and sets it apart in the competitive real estate market.

connected, intelligent spaces that elevate everyday living.

Despite being a relatively young company, ONE Development has quickly established itself as a trusted name in the UAE real estate sector.

“Real estate is my passion, pure and simple. It’s what I love doing the most. ONE Development’s ultimate goal is not just to construct properties but to craft lifestyles and inspire communities. By maintaining this focus, we are setting the foundation to lead the transformation of urban living, starting in the UAE and expanding to international markets,” says Al Gebely.

But isn’t venturing into an already crowded real estate market a risk? “With all these established players, the question was where’s the gap in the market? What could we do differently as a boutique developer. We said our entry is not only in the value of the project. We want to simplify your life,” he explains. Laguna Residence, located in Dubai’s City of Arabia, is a landmark AED2.3 billion flagship development that redefines urban living in the UAE. As the country’s first fully AI-integrated residential community, Laguna Residence combines cutting-edge technology with forward-thinking design to create

What truly distinguishes Laguna Residence is its iconic features, including the region’s largest lagoon built on a podium, surrounded by the project’s breathtaking twin towers. These architectural highlights provide unparalleled views while serving as the heart of a community focused on comfort, convenience and elevated lifestyle.

The project offers a diverse range of living spaces, from functional studios to opulent Skyhomes, designed to meet the needs of individuals, couples, and families alike. Residents benefit from direct access to over 40 world-class amenities, ensuring a holistic living experience. These include wellness zones, VR golf, fitness centers, indoor and outdoor cinemas, and more, facilitating an active, balanced, and socially engaging lifestyle all within the neighborhood.

Laguna Residence’s design reflects the modern buyer’s preference for a lifestyle that extends beyond the home’s walls. The development promotes community engagement, wellness, and convenience, minimizing the need for long commutes and making everyday life more enjoyable.

Currently, the Laguna Residence project is progressing on schedule, with completion timelines being actively monitored to meet anticipated deadlines. The

project is on track for a seamless handover in Q4 of 2027 and continues to attract significant attention from prospective buyers and investors due to its innovative features and prime location.

But, he explains, the real game changer is turning this into the world’s first fully AI integrated community.

“Laguna Residence stands out as the region’s first fully AI-integrated residential community, redefining the way we think about urban living. At the core of its unique offering is a proprietary AI application that seamlessly integrates various aspects of modern living, including facility management, smart appliances, amenities, and resident services. This cutting-edge technology is designed to create a fully connected ecosystem, where every element of daily life is optimized for convenience, safety, and comfort,” he says.

Al Gebely adds: One of the most innovative features in development is AI driven wearable technology, such as smart watches. For instance, these devices will monitor vital signs in real-time, enabling immediate action in case of medical emergencies. If a resident were to experience a critical health event, such as a heart attack, God forbid, the wearable would instantly notify the building’s security team, who would promptly call an ambulance and assist the resident. This proactive approach ensures residents feel secure, even when living alone, and underscores Laguna’s commitment to prioritizing health and safety.”

The results suggest that customers like what they see: Laguna Residence has seen a remarkable response since its launch, with Phase One selling out in under a month; an

OUR MISSION ACROSS ALL OUR VENTURES IS TO DELIVER EXCELLENCE AND VALUE, DRIVEN BY A DEEP COMMITMENT TO OUR EMPLOYEES, OUR PARTNERS, AND THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE.”

impressive feat that highlights the strong demand and the project’s broad appeal to both investors and homebuyers alike.

For investors, Laguna Residence offers promising returns, with projections of up to 10%, makes the project an attractive option for those looking to maximize their investment.

But this is just the start. ONE Development is rapidly expanding its portfolio with an exciting lineup of future projects. The company has already made strides by entering the hospitality sector, with the launch of DO Boutique Hotels marking a major milestone in this expansion. This

innovative concept blends bold design, evocative music, and cutting-edge technology to create immersive hospitality experiences that go beyond just nice stays. With DO Boutique Hotels, ONE Development seeks to redefine the industry and offer a completely new concept in hospitality.

In addition to its ventures in hospitality, ONE Development is planning to expand its portfolio to include a variety of residential, villa, commercial, and hospitality projects. This diverse approach aims to contribute significantly to the growth of the UAE’s economy and also cater to the increasing demand for high-quality, integrated urban spaces. The launch of DO Boutique Hotels aligns with the UAE’s Tourism Strategy 2031, supporting both local and regional tourism growth.

As ONE Development moves forward with its expansion plans, the company’s strategy is closely aligned with the Dubai Real Estate Sector Strategy 2033. By focusing on innovative, sustainable, and technology-driven developments, ONE Development actively contributes to Dubai’s goal of increasing real estate market value, attracting global investors, and fostering sustainable urban growth.

Looking ahead, ONE Development plans to expand into key markets in the MENA region, including Egypt and potentially Saudi Arabia, while maintaining a focus on the UAE. With its continued commitment to

innovation and excellence, the company aims to create transformative lifestyle experiences in both the real estate and hospitality sectors.

The DO Boutique Hotels concept is certain to be one of the key drivers of both growth and excitement. Each property is designed to be a masterpiece, blending unique artistic design with seamless smart technology to create an environment that’s both functional and inspiring. At the core of this innovative concept is the partnership with the legendary Amr Diab. Known for his ability to connect people through music, Amr Diab’s influence will be woven into every aspect of the hotel experience.

“Music will not just play a background role, but will be an integral part of the atmosphere, from curated soundscapes that set the tone for different spaces to live performances that enhance the vibrancy of each location,” Al Gebely says.

Guests can expect an array of innovative features that are tailored to modern travelers. AI-powered personalization will cater to individual preferences, while immersive music experiences and wellness-focused services will allow guests to recharge and relax in ways that feel truly unique. DO Boutique Hotels aims to create spaces where travelers not only stay but thrive—combining comfort, creativity, and connection.

“I believe that this partnership with Amr Diab truly elevates the brand, making music the heartbeat of the hotel, fostering a sense of community and creativity among }}

guests. The brand encourages visitors to “Live the Beat,” inviting them to immerse themselves in a vibrant atmosphere where every moment feels like a celebration. With its fusion of design, music, and technology, DO Boutique Hotels will offer a transformative, unforgettable experience that guests will carry with them long after their stay,” he says.

All this bodes well for the coming years and plans ahead, and Al Gebely is equally bullish when it comes to the state of the overall real estate market.

“The future of the UAE real estate sector is incredibly promising, with rapid transformations already underway. Dubai’s Real Estate Strategy 2033, which targets AED 1 trillion in transactions over the next decade, lays a

solid foundation for sustained growth. This ambitious vision reflects the government’s commitment to driving development, particularly in residential and commercial properties, which are seeing increasing demand as the market continues to expand,” he says.

Just as ONE Development and his many other ventures have taken off, Al Gebely himself has also experienced great personal success, gaining a reputation as one of the most innovate and visionary business leaders in the country.

“My career has been a journey of continuous growth and evolution, where every role and challenge taught me something valuable about leadership, innovation, and the power of collaboration. I’ve been fortunate to work

in environments that not only demanded excellence but also encouraged a forward-thinking mindset, which has been instrumental in shaping my approach to leadership today,” he says.

As for the secrets of his success, he says: “As I progressed, I sought out opportunities that challenged me to think differently. I worked on projects that required innovative approaches and collaborated with diverse teams across cultures and disciplines. This taught me the value of adaptability and the importance of fostering a culture of collaboration. I realized that the best ideas often come from listening to those around you and creating an environment where everyone feels empowered to contribute….One of the defining moments of my career was

stepping into leadership roles where I had to navigate complex challenges while inspiring teams to align around a shared vision. I learned that leadership isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room; it’s about being a listener, a strategist, and a problem-solver. It’s about empowering others and showing them the bigger picture, even during times of uncertainty.”

By the time he took on the role of CEO at ONE Development, he had built not just a skillset but also a philosophy.

“Every step of my journey reinforced the belief that success in real estate—and in any business isn’t just about profit; it’s about purpose. It’s about creating something meaningful that stands the test of time and makes a positive impact on people’s lives.”

Right now, he is doing exactly that.

ACING A TEST

Ben Francis, founder and CEO, GymShark, on building a business that goes from strength to strength. by TAMARA PUPIC

What sets successful business founders apart from the rest? It is hard to think of a more important question in a sector ruled by damning statistics — 90% of all startups fail.

Yet, Ben Francis, the founder of gymwear brand GymShark, gives the most humble and convincing answer you’d expect from the UK’s youngest billionaire.

“It’s definitely about not being afraid of failure and having the confidence and the ability to learn,” says Francis.

We are at the opening of the brand’s store in the Dubai Mall, its first permanent store outside the UK, for which it partnered with Al Tayer Insignia, the luxury retail company of the UAE business conglomerate Al Tayer Group. The store features a wide range of the brand’s most popular workout gear, and it is hard to imagine that there was a time when Francis was sewing its first orders himself. “In the early days, I would wake up and look at all the orders that had come in, and generally, there weren’t too many,” he says. “It might have been five or 10. Then I would basically print the product for the order and package it. I’d literally take it to the post office

myself and send each one. I’d literally handwrite each label. You’d have to do everything. Literally check the orders, make the product, package it, post it, everything.”

Francis launched GymShark in 2012 out of Solihull, a town near his parents’ home outside of Birmingham, while studying at Aston University and delivering pizza across the city as a side hustle. He was also passionate about working out in the gym and building online businesses. It is the combination of these two complementary skills that would become the catalyst that propelled him towards his goals. “I started lots of other businesses … I think seven other businesses that failed,” he says. “There were websites selling license plates, iPhone, apps, lots of different things. Then GymShark was the result of what I learned from all of them, but GymShark wasn’t necessarily a pure business venture. It was just something I really wanted to do. I loved the gym and I really wanted to sell products online. That’s how GymShark came about, basically.”

→ Ben Francis is the founder and CEO of GymShark.

Initially, the brand’s product development and go to market approach stemmed from Francis’ deep understanding of the needs of Millennials and Gen Z who are, like himself, digital natives and fitness fans. For the first two years, he was focused solely on growing GymShark via social media by relying on weightlifting influencers to spread the word about the fledgling brand. “We were the only people that were really focused on bodybuilding in the gym- I think to this day we still really are, especially at our scale,” Francis says.”Back then, YouTubers and online influencers were in far less demand than they are today. There weren’t that many people who were working with them, so we were early pioneers of influencer marketing in 2012.”

The turning point was GymShark’s first in-person event at the 2013 BodyPower Expo in Birmingham. “That was a big moment because it was the first time people were seeing the brand in person, and that was a huge event,” Francis says. “That was where we really got the traction.”

Today, GymShark has three offices- Birmingham, London, and New York. Geographically, its biggest markets are the US, the UK,

Australia, Canada, Netherlands, and Germany. Francis explains that constantly reinventing the brand has been key to ensuring its sustainable growth. “At the start it was purely online,” he says. “Then it was online with a few events, and then the events became pop-up stores, and then it was about the regional growth. Similarly, in the early days, we only did menswear, and then we started to do womenswear as well, and so on.”

GymShark has two permanent stores in London, on Regent Steet and Westfield Stratford, and now one in Dubai. Future plans include opening stores in New York, Manchester, Amsterdam, and White City Westfield in London. “We’re now looking at stores which we’ve never done before the last couple of years, so again, it’s about constantly reinventing the business but protecting the core,” Francis says. “If you look at any of

our advertisements, you’ll see only three words: ‘We Do Gym.’ We’re trying to be really consistent and strong with the communication on what we do. Again, we have the best gym wear in the world, but we want to grow in terms of our regional approach and our channel approach. For me, it’s about constantly reinventing the business, but also staying really true to who you are as a business, rather than over-stretching, over-reaching, and then becoming not as meaningful to everyone.”

Needless to say that GymShark is hitting its targets on all levels. Its 2023 financial results showed revenues of £556 million (almost US$692.5 million), a 15% increase from 2022. In an email to Entrepreneur Middle East, the company stated: “Crucially, our EBITDA, now a primary indicator, rose in line with sales growth. We also reduced our stock balance by £25 million and

improved our cash position by £50 million. This also came off the back of our biggest ever Black Friday, which included the biggest ever day in Gymshark’s history,”

In 2018, Francis was included on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. Two years later, he was awarded the EY UK Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The same year he sold a 21% stake to private equity firm General Atlantic, remaining the majority owner with about 70%. Then, in 2023, he made his debut on Forbes’ Young Billionaires list, becoming the only British entrepreneur to ever make the list.

Also, he was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for his services to the business sector by Prince William.

All of this is an impressive achievement for Francis who will be 33 only later this year, but throughout his entrepreneurial journey, he has consistently displayed maturity beyond his years. One example is Francis stepping down from the position of CEO of GymShark - a role he held from 2017 to 2021- announcing in a blog post that the move “would give him time to work on his weaknesses and become a more founded business person.” Looking

back at that decision, Francis says, “I realized then that for me to run the business when it got as big as it did, I had to really understand each area. I took a step down and went to work in finance, in operations, in supply chain, in product, in tech, and I really got to understand each area of the business. I now feel far more capable because I’ve worked in each department.”

GymShark employs nearly 1,000 people, and its main strength seems to be its online community of over 20 million people from over 200 countries. When asked about the loyalty that his brand inspires both inside

and outside the company, Francis credits it to the impact that it has on people’s lives. “It really resonates with people personally because it’s a brand that’s all about improving yourself every day,” he says. “ I think first and foremost, a lot of people resonate with the brand. Then secondly, a lot of people just really like the business story. We want to be a brand that stands the test of time. Our ambition is to build a brand that lasts 100 years. I think that’s a really cool thing to be a part of. Rather than saying, ‘join this brand; we’re going to sell out in two years.’”

While GymShark will certainly go through many different phases throughout the century it is envisioned to stay in business, Francis will certainly prefer to keep

If you look at any of our advertisements, you’ll see only three words: ‘We Do Gym.’ We’re trying to be really consistent and strong with the communication on what we do.”

its fundamentals intact.

“We’ve got the ‘We Do Gym’ tagline because we want to be the best producer of gym wear in the world,” he concludes. “We are, I believe, the most authentic producer of gym wear in the world. There are a lot of other people that do a bit of everything, whether it’s sportswear or athleisure or fashion, whereas GymShark is solely focused on gym wear.”

}Do what you love

“You have to be building a business in something that you love. I built GymShark because I absolutely love the gym, and I think consistently throughout the years, that’s something that entrepreneurs should be thinking about.”

}Don’t feel urged to jump on the AI bandwagon

“Everyone is talking about AI at the moment, and whilst there are huge opportunities there, just because AI is hot at the moment doesn’t mean you need to be starting a business in AI. Again, focus on what you really love.”

}Focus on your brand and product

“You have to have a unique brand and a unique product that you’re really proud of, and you have to build something really unique and special and high quality. As always, you have to focus on those things above all else.”

Unlock Potential

How creative writing can boost your professional and personal growth by KIRA JEAN

‘T/Creativity

Storytelling has always had an important part to play in business. The ability to craft narratives that engage audiences, build trusted relationships and establish memorable connections that drive buying decisions is a skill that can take time to hone. Hence, the arrival of generative AI is understandably a welcome resource for time-stretched professionals. However, it may also be doing a disservice – for both customers in business, and for us as individuals.

Human-to-human storytelling is innately more original, valuable, and thought-provoking than the current rule-driven, formulaic approach of technology. Creative writing, in particular, allows us to explore our imagination to unleash innovation that can promote professional growth, while providing an outlet to channel emotions that can support mental health. Here’s how practicing creative writing could impact your career progress as well as your personal wellbeing.

Finding your voice

Whether you’re a multinational CEO, an entrepreneur, a teacher,

or an intern starting out on your career path, you will need to tell a unique story that makes you stand out from the crowd. This starts with finding your own voice. Creative writing can help you to reflect critically on your natural expression, step outside your comfort zone to try different approaches, and build the raw materials that will ultimately enable you to craft and hone your true voice.

Communicating with confidence

Creative writing teaches the fundamentals of communication that apply in any context. Developing a story that engages an audience, building characters that are relatable, and weaving the layers that keep readers interested are also the foundations for compelling communication in a business setting. Developing these skills builds personal and professional confidence, and moreover, doing so in a creative community provides a supportive environment, outside of the result-driven business context.

Unlocking creativity and innovation

As a fast-paced business hub, the UAE has positioned itself as a leader of innovation in both technology and creativity. Businesses and employees now need to embrace this mindset simply in order to survive. Creative writing is a discipline that inspires invention, helping us to re-connect with our imagination and unlock the part of the brain that might bring forward transformational innovations in products and processes. We also need to unleash the potential of the UAE’s untapped creative innovators, by nurturing raw talent in fiction writing and helping aspiring authors to realise their ambition to publish their story.

Creating balance and supporting emotional wellbeing

Like reading, creative writing is an opportunity for quiet contemplation, away from the constant noise of every-day life. We see many senior corporate executives turn to creative writing, not only to improve their communication skills through a more reflective approach, but also to create balance in their hectic lives. Expressing inner thoughts through storytelling is also a powerful tool to support mental health and emotional wellbeing. Articulating feelings through written word brings out those concerns we have within us and can give a new perspective that helps to rationalise anxieties.

As innovation, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence are frequently cited as essential competencies for the future of work, creative writing can offer an alternative outlet to practice and perfect these essential skills, whilst also nurturing a calming mental state that promotes wellbeing, and perhaps even finding a new passion in the process.

Creating Impact

How Saudi Arabia’s future can be secured through innovation in business education.

As Saudi Arabia continues its journey toward economic diversification, the role of innovative business education is critical. At the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman College of Business and Entrepreneurship (MBSC), we are proud to contribute to this transformation by preparing the next generation of leaders who will shape the Kingdom’s future. Through a blend of technology, experiential learning, and entrepreneurial focus, we are equipping our students to not only adapt to change but to drive it. The future of Saudi Arabia depends on bold leadership and innovative thinking—and I am confident that through transformative education, we can empower our youth to rise to this challenge.

}Integrating Technology to Shape Business Leaders

One of the most pressing challenges in business education today is ensuring that graduates are equipped with the skills necessary for a rapidly changing global economy. At MBSC, we have embraced this challenge by integrating cutting-edge technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), into our curriculum. This is not simply about staying current; it is about preparing our students to lead. AI in accounting and

finance, for example, is revolutionizing how data is analyzed and decisions are made. By exposing our students to these tools, we empower them to develop data-driven solutions that address real-world problems. Beyond AI, we are expanding the use of big data analytics, blockchain technology, and digital transformation strategies across all programs. This comprehensive integration of technology ensures that our graduates are prepared to navigate the complexities of a global economy. This approach is directly aligned with Vision 2030’s emphasis on innovation and technological advancement. The leaders we are shaping today will be the architects of a diversified economy tomorrow—individuals who can harness technology to drive sustainable growth.

}Fostering Entrepreneurial Mindsets

Saudi Arabia needs visionary leaders who can identify opportunities and turn them into impactful ventures. Business schools must move beyond traditional academic models to

cultivate entrepreneurial mindsets. At MBSC, we have reimagined our educational approach to focus on leadership, creativity, and bold decision-making. Our programs are designed not only to impart knowledge but also to instill a sense of ownership and responsibility in our students. Practical experience is central to this approach. By engaging in real-world case studies, collaborative projects, and industry research, our students develop the agility and resilience needed to thrive in any sector. This hands-on learning model ensures that our graduates are not only well-informed but also capable of driving meaningful change.

Our alumni’s success reflects this approach. Over 57% of MBSC graduates hold leadership roles in the public sector, and 19% are contributing to the private sector’s growth. Additionally, 35% of our alumni occupy director-level positions or higher, with 25% serving as managers. These figures demonstrate the tangible impact of combining academic excellence with practical experience.

}Empowering Leaders for Economic Diversification

The Kingdom’s economic

future depends on its ability to diversify beyond oil. Business education must play a pivotal role in this transition by producing leaders who can navigate and shape new industries. Our commitment at MBSC is to equip students with the tools and insights necessary to lead this transformation. Through programs like the Executive MBA, Master of Finance, and Master of Management, we provide a comprehensive education that blends academic rigor with practical application. Our selective admissions process ensures that we attract individuals who possess both academic excellence and the entrepreneurial spirit needed to contribute to the Kingdom’s evolving economy.

Additionally, our Executive Education programs have delivered over 1,700 hours of training to more than 2,000 participants, 97% of whom hold managerial positions or higher. These programs focus on upskilling professionals to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving business environment, directly contributing to the Kingdom’s diversification goals.

}Actionable Steps for Educational Innovation

To truly drive progress, I believe business schools across Saudi Arabia and beyond should consider the following steps:

1 /.Integrate Emerging Technologies: Incorporate AI, data analytics, and other advanced tools into all business disciplines to prepare students for future market demands.

2 /Prioritize Experiential Learning: Develop programs that balance theoretical knowledge with hands-on projects and real-world problemsolving.

3 /Cultivate Entrepreneurial Thinking: Foster creativity and risk-taking by encouraging students to launch startups or innovate within existing organizations.

4 /Engage Industry Partners: Strengthen collaborations with industry leaders to ensure curricula remain relevant and impactful.

5 /Support Lifelong Learning: Provide continuous education opportunities for professionals to stay current with industry trends and innovations.

}Conclusion: Leading Saudi Arabia’s Transformation

As Saudi Arabia continues

its journey toward economic diversification, the role of innovative business education is critical. At MBSC, we are proud to contribute to this transformation by preparing the next generation of leaders who will shape the Kingdom’s future.

Business schools must take decisive action now to foster the leaders who will build a diversified, resilient, and prosperous economy for generations to come.

“Coming

of Age: How Technology and Entrepreneurship are Changing the Face of MENA”

Coming of Age” is the story of the entrepreneurial growth in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) over the last twenty-five years, spanning industries as diverse as fintech, healthtech and agritech, all of which have emerged from the desert since the new

millennium, producing globally-leading transformative ventures and leapfrogging technologies. Featuring stories and reflections of pioneering founders from the region, “Coming of Age” conveys the MENA region’s remarkable entrepreneurial journey to the point of today, where it is set to challenge the global order and to fully realize the potential of the largest young digital population in the world.

“Crucially, these MENA pioneers passed down DNA that is now quintessential to the contemporary Middle Eastern entrepreneur and is evident in other emerging ecosystems globally. The Originals also imparted valuable lessons on building businesses in resource-constrained environments. Operating under challenging conditions, where access to capital, skilled talent, and resources is limited, and

uncertainty is a constant feature, today’s entrepreneurs are always prepared for the worst. As a result, they build businesses that are resilient by design and follow a different playbook than their counterparts in Silicon Valley or Europe.

The successes of the Originals not only marked a turning point for the MENA region but also served as a powerful inspiration for the next generation of founders. Standing on the shoulders of these Originals, the new wave of entrepreneurs was empowered to look further into the horizon, dreaming bigger and aiming higher than ever before. Yet, as they reached for larger goals, they carried with them the invaluable lessons the Originals had uncovered – how to build sustainable businesses even with scarce resources. This new generation was inspired by the resilience and resourcefulness of their predecessors, learning that scaling a business required not just innovation but a deep understanding of local markets, trust-building with stakeholders, and an unwavering commitment to creating value, even in the face of uncertainty. They had learned how to build an Adversity Advantage.”

Freelancing is often a shortcut to entrepreneurship. To Julia Grit, founder and Managing Director at Greet Agency, a UAE-based event and model management agency, starting off as a freelance helped test her entrepreneurial skills and build a network. “I gained a lot of experience working in events in the UAE as a freelancer, and over time, clients started approaching me directly to provide and manage staff for their events or to supply models for their shoots and shows,” she says. “Within just one week, a few clients suggested that I should start my own agency. At first, I hadn’t even considered the idea, but hearing it repeatedly made me feel like the universe was sending me a clear message. I decided to listen.”

It must be noted that Grit had already been well-skilled for the entrepreneurial journey she was about the embark on- after earning a master’s degree in International Public Relations in Kyiv, she started her career at the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine. Some years later, she joined Luxury Lifestyle Awards, a Kyiv-based events company, which led her to working on organizing international awards ceremonies and educational events in Dubai, Singapore, and Moscow. “This experience exposed me to a variety of industries and markets, broadening my expertise on an international scale,” Grit says. “Eventually, I decided to move to Dubai to continue my career as a freelancer. After that, starting my own business felt like a natural progression, allowing me to combine my background in marketing and project management with my hands-on experience in event organizing.”

Greet Agency was officially launched in January 2022, and a testament to Grit’s capability is the fact that her self-funded business has been profitable and sustainable from day one. “To be completely honest, I feel that my entrepreneurial journey has been relatively smooth,” Grit says. “I’ve always made

it a priority to do my work to the best of my ability, and this dedication has paid off. Those who work with me often joke about my ‘obsessive-compulsive disorder’ when it comes to work - I like to think through every detail and scenario, ensuring that I’m fully prepared for anything that might come up.”

Today, Greet Agency has three full time team members and manages a database of more than 1,500 freelancers based in the UAE. It has provided its services to some of the most notable events in the country, including Montblanc On The Move, the Van Gogh event at Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Cartier Islamic Art Exhibition Press Event, the Hublot Pavilion at Dubai Watch Week, the Roger Dubuis x Lamborghini Activation, the Panerai Store Opening in Dubai Mall, the Tag Heuer

Carrera event, the Pomellato Pom Pom Dot event, and many more. Grit adds, “We did some amazing shoots for Bvlgari and GirardPerregaux Ramadan campaigns and shows for Damiani. We also work with Chanel Watches and Jewelry for Dubai Watch Week and various pop-ups. Additionally one of our proudest achievements is our ongoing partnership with the Coca- Cola Arena, where we provide event staff for the VIP Suite Levels for all their shows.”

Grit believes that “prioritizing quality over quantity” has set her agency apart in the crowded event management sector in the UAE. “We take excellent care of our clients, supporting them every step of the way rather than simply providing staff and leaving them to manage on their own. This hands-on approach is something our clients truly value,” she says.

↓ Greet Agency has provided its services to some of the most notable events in the UAE.

“Equally important is the way we treat our staff and contractors. We view them as representatives of both our agency and our clients, so we take great care to ensure they feel valued. We prioritize building strong relationships and often work with the same team members across multiple projects to maintain consistency and high standards. Additionally, our transparent and fair rates and commission structure allow us to deliver the best possible service and talent to our clients at competitive rates.”

I FEEL THAT MY ENTREPRENEURIAL JOURNEY HAS BEEN RELATIVELY SMOOTH. I’VE ALWAYS MADE IT A PRIORITY TO DO MY WORK TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY, AND THIS DEDICATION HAS PAID OFF.”

With event management being a fast-paced and ever-changing environment, Grit says that certain skills are absolutely essential. “Stress resistance and the ability to think quickly under pressure and flexibility are crucial,” she explains. “Then, attention to detail, meticulous planning, and having backup options are key to handling unexpected

changes effectively. Multitasking is another critical skill, especially when managing multiple events simultaneously. And above all, excellent communication skills are essential for fostering strong relationships with both clients and the staff or talents we work with.”

Looking to the future, Grit aims to expand her agency further into full-scale event management, and while doing that, she will remain committed to providing the highest quality of work to clients. “Since I started my business the industry has become much more

competitive, with many new agencies entering the market, and while some rates in the market have dropped significantly, we remain committed to upholding our standards and ensuring our talents and contractors are fairly compensated for the excellent work they do,” she concludes. “We don’t compete for lower-paying projects but instead focus on delivering exceptional value. We believe there’s enough opportunity in the market for everyone, and our clients who share our values continue to choose us.”

Better: Disrupting Men’s Wellness in the UAE, One Gummy at a Time

Men’s wellness has long been an underserved area in the health and fitness industry, often overshadowed by the more visible conversations around women’s health. This gendered gap has allowed mental and physical issues specific to men—particularly in the realms of overall health, hair loss, and overall well-being—to remain under-discussed and, worse, stigmatized. Enter Better, the UAE’s first men’s wellness startup, a company that is not only addressing these issues head-on but is also changing the way men think about their health.

Better’s product range is as modern as it is essential, offering everything from biotin hair loss gummies to caffeine shampoo and rosemary hair oil, with the company planning to introduce a broader line of chewable tablets soon. The goal? To break down the barriers that prevent men from seeking treatment and to make wellness both accessible and affordable.

The Birth of Better Men Better’s inception came out of a realization that men often don’t seek help for health issues that impact their confidence and well-being due to societal stigmas. Dib, a serial entrepreneur who has previously founded three successful startups, including a B2B SaaS company and an InsurTech that raised USD$6.4 million, saw this gap in the market and understood the potential to create a brand that could make a difference. He has an impressive track record of building successful businesses, but Better feels different. It’s not just about products; it’s about reshaping an entire conversation around men’s health.

“Today’s solutions in men’s health are often stigmatized or inaccessible,” Dib told Entrepreneur Middle East. “We want to

destigmatize these conversations and provide men with the support they need to take care of themselves.” Dib’s vision is clear—he wants to make the conversation about men’s health less taboo and more integrated into daily wellness routines. Whether it’s through a supplement, a mint, or a hair-loss gummy, Better aims to offer simple, effective treatments that

men can easily incorporate into their busy lives.

Got a Mint That Can Break Stigmas?

What makes Better stand out is its approach to personalizing care and making it easier for men to take action without feeling embarrassed or exposed. The brand offers a subscription model, meaning customers can get

their products delivered to their doorsteps regularly— no more awkward trips to the pharmacy or doctor’s office. This level of discretion is paramount for many men who feel uncomfortable discussing their health, particularly in the Middle East, where cultural pressures around masculinity and vulnerability remain prevalent.

And it’s not just about hair loss. It’s about giving men the tools they need to stay on top of their health in a world that is constantly demanding more from them. Whether that’s biotin gummies to help with thinning hair, rosemary oil for a fuller look, or a caffeine-infused shampoo to energize their scalp, Better is offering solutions that are both practical and premium.

“We want to make wellness the right of every man in the Middle East,” Dib added. “This statement isn’t just about product distribution—it’s about changing the mindset. For Better, wellness isn’t a luxury that only the privileged can afford; it’s a basic right for everyone,” he said.

The Wingman You Never Had

In the competitive world of wellness startups, it’s not enough to have a great

product; securing the right financial backing is key to driving long-term growth. Better recently raised USD$550,000 in a pre-seed funding round led by Salica Spring Studios’ fund, backed by Salica Investments and Al Waha Fund of Funds, and Plus VC (+VC), MENA’s most active VC, within a month of going live. The funding round marks a significant step toward Better’s expansion and ability to further innovate in the men’s wellness space.

Dib is optimistic about what’s to come. “This funding milestone represents more than financial support; it’s a commitment to a future

emerging status as a hub for startups and innovation, Better is poised to make a significant impact on how men approach their health, wellness, and self-care.

A New Era for Men’s Health in the UAE and Beyond

where men can lead better, healthier lives,” he said. The startup plans to use the funds to expand its product offerings and accelerate its market presence, including the anticipated launch of chewable tablets designed for treating health conditions that affects millions of men worldwide but remains shrouded in secrecy and shame.

The product line expansion and increased market presence will also allow Better to scale rapidly and meet the growing demand for accessible men’s health products in the region. With the backing of reputable investors and the UAE’s

What Better is offering is more than just a new health brand; it’s a cultural shift. Men, especially in high-stress environments like the UAE, face unique mental pressures that eventually manifest in physical issues—be it stress-induced hair loss and anxiety. Traditionally, solutions to these problems have been either inaccessible, expensive, or stigmatized. But now, with the introduction of personalized health solutions and the ability to get effective treatments without embarrassment, Better is bridging the gap.

Dib’s statement that “therapy, physical wellness, and physical treatment for men, whether it’s for their organs or otherwise, should be more affordable and scalable” underscores the

startup’s mission. With the wellness industry being revolutionized globally, it’s high time men’s health received the same attention and innovative solutions that other sectors—like fintech, transportation, and cloud kitchens—have enjoyed.

Settling For Supplements

With Better’s innovative business model, strategic funding, and vision for the future, the company is set to redefine the wellness industry for men in the UAE and across the Middle East: It’s telling men that they don’t have to settle for supplements that don’t work. Better’s personalized approach, ease of access, and commitment to affordability will likely pave the way for a new era of health products and services designed for men, without the shame or stigma. As Better continues to grow and introduce new products, it’s clear that they’re not just selling supplements—they’re building a movement. One mint, one gummy, one man at a time.

How secure messaging will redefine business communication in the Middle East.

Two forward-thinking organizations are collaborating to revolutionize secure messaging in the Middle East.

Leo & Muhly LLC, a trusted distribution partner of Threema, a Swiss company renowned for its focus on security, and NINE SEVEN ONE Global Solutions, a Dubai-based business consultancy, are introducing Threema.Work to the region. Recognized as a leading secure communication solution by Forrester, Threema addresses the vulnerabilities in business communication and offers a robust alternative to WhatsApp.

THE GROWING DEMAND FOR SECURE BUSINESS MESSAGING

In a world increasingly reliant on digital communication, many organizations face critical risks, including data breaches, unauthorized access, and regulatory non-compliance. Messaging platforms like WhatsApp or Signal, originally designed for personal use, fail to meet the security demanded by corporate environments.

“Threema is designed for organizations that prioritize confidentiality,” says Fabian Muhly, CEO of Leo & Muhly. “For industries exchanging sensitive

data daily, secure communication is indispensable.”

This is particularly relevant in sectors like finance, healthcare, real estate, hospitality, and aviation, where safeguarding data is non-negotiable. Government organizations, too, face significant risks, as breaches can lead to severe financial, operational, and reputational consequences.

A STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP FOR REGIONAL SUCCESS

Leo & Muhly and NINE SEVEN ONE combine global technological expertise with localized insights. While Leo & Muhly

ensures Threema’s Swiss innovation reaches the region, NINE SEVEN ONE tailors the solution to Middle Eastern needs, addressing concerns such as data sovereignty and cultural nuances.

“Our role is to adapt Threema’s advanced technology for regional requirements,” explains Dirk Wagner, Founder & CEO of NINE SEVEN ONE. “We’re ensuring businesses in the Middle East get a secure platform they can trust.”

STANDING OUT IN A COMPETITIVE MARKET

Scheduled for a Q1 2025 launch, Threema.Work positions itself as a secure, practical alternative to WhatsApp. While WhatsApp dominates, its data-sharing practices and vulnerabilities have left businesses searching for safer options.

“This isn’t just about launching a product,” Wagner asserts. “It’s about setting a new standard, proving that security, privacy, and user-friendliness can coexist.”

Key features of Threema. Work include:

} Security and Privacy by Design: Probably the most trusted business messenger on the planet, ensuring all messages and files are secure

} Stay compliant: Complies with regulations, such as GDPR, NIS2, DORA, CER

} Ensure Business Continuity: Ensure seamless communication and remain operable in the event of a system breakdown

} Possible self-Hosting for the Highest Security Requirements: maximum security, total data ownership

} Powerful Policy Enforce-

ment: Provides a powerful administration tool for user management and policy enforcement

communication alternatives. Emirates’ adoption reflects this trend and shows how businesses are embracing innovative

A REGION POISED FOR TRANSFORMATION

The Middle East’s rapid digital transformation and focus on cybersecurity make it the ideal launchpad for Threema.Work. Governments and enterprises are prioritizing data privacy, creating fertile ground for secure solutions.

The recent integration of Threema’s secure solutions by Emirates, one of the world’s most trusted airlines, highlights the platform’s reliability and ability to manage sensitive, high-stakes communication. This endorsement underscores Threema’s value for organizations where security is paramount, offering a proven solution for critical data protection.

Discussions with regional business leaders confirms a growing demand for secure

platforms to address privacy concerns and ensure seamless, trustworthy communication.

FUTURE INNOVATIONS OF SECURE BUSINESS MESSAGING

While the immediate focus is on the Middle East, the partnership aims for global expansion. Future enhancements include integrating AI to streamline workflows, embedding enterprise software, and introducing analytics to optimize communication.

“This collaboration showcases the power of strategic partnerships,” says Muhly. “By combining Threema’s innovation with NINE SEVEN ONE’s market expertise, we’re redefining business communication.”

The launch of Threema.

Work signals a pivotal shift in secure communication. By addressing vulnerabilities in existing platforms and offering tailored solutions, Leo & Muhly and NINE SEVEN ONE Global Solutions are setting a new benchmark for the industry. For businesses seeking to safeguard their sensitive information while ensuring seamless operations, Threema.Work is a game-changing alternative. Anticipation for the launch underscores the importance of innovation and collaboration in raising standards for secure messaging.

The UAE job market has been experiencing a significant surge in demand for both blue-collar and entry-level jobs, although white-collar recruitment continues to show a downward trend, as per a report by UAE-based recruitment and staffing solutions company Innovations Group. The study shows that blue-collar jobs have grown by 69% in 2024, primarily due to the ongoing mega projects in both residential and industrial construction. Overall, however, blue-collar hirings declined by 21% in 2024, despite the rising number of open positions, which indicates challenges in terms of mobilization and skill matching. While the UAE government's focus on economic diversification and infrastructure development has led to a considerable influx of new businesses across industry verticals, there has also been a simultaneous decline in the white-collar job market in the country.
