A story prototype Bear in mind that, when you develop your idea and flesh out what media you are going to use, the next step should be to bring your production to the finance stage. However, unless you are an Hollywood major, you most likely won’t have the financial firepower to develop and launch across all the media from the start. In other words, you are going to have to demonstrate to your investors how this product will appear when it is launched.
Developing a product example for each platform would be prohibitively expensive at this point. What you need to focus on is what is available to you in order to best demonstrate how your product works on one, or maybe two, platforms. Essentially, you need a ‘live’, functioning example of your product. You need a prototype. When getting started with your prototype product, I would recommend that you focus on those media that you are most familiar with. Launch on a medium you are most comfortable with and break out from there. For instance, if you’re a web-based company you might want to initially focus on the internet, because this is what you know and this is what you do well with. So, in this instance, you might want to create a game first. If you are a television-oriented company, you might want to produce your short form episode or a pilot for the
internet.
Again, if you are more familiar with the publishing world, maybe your starting point is books, or perhaps writing articles for magazines. Remember, you shouldn’t try to do this all at once, but plan and timeline your expected expansion into other media.
