A myriad of spatial experiences correspond with architecture are to be explored in order to build socially engaging memories through spatial possibilities. The design proposals are to promote sensitivity towards social engagements with collective awareness to the articulation and assemblage of the programmes. At the same time, the design continues to address the contextual issues of the surrounding established from the studies done of Central Region precinct. The proposal for Park-ing Progressive Prospect aims to inspire adaptation and inclusive social engagement with safe participation during the aftermath of a pandemic. This new placemaking is for partaking, identifying, learning, and creating social space typologies should offer socially conscious and spatial design solutions that are sustainable. The architectural design must take into considerations of the building’s programmes, the building’s formal expression and spaces that involve and revolve meaningful aspects of a community. This repurposing the existing carparks should embrace the green building movement and environmental sustainability.

INTRODUCTION

Our Promising Land JALAN BESAR

Jalan Besar (Chinese: 惹兰勿刹; literally “Large Road” in Malay, but taken to mean “Main Road”) is a one-way road in Singapore, connecting Kallang and Rochor. The Jalan Besar Conservation Area is located just outside the boundaries of the Little India Historic District and stretches along Jalan Besar. It also includes the ornate row of terrace houses along Petain Road. The area was originally an estate of over six acres extending from Serangoon Road to Jalan Besar, where historically, sireh and nipah were extensively cultivated. The area is significant for its historic streetscapes created by buildings with a variety of vernacular architecture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period in Singapore’s history when the elaborately decorated shophouses flourished.
