INTERACTIVE/DIDACTIC CONCERT ON WILLIAM BLAKE’S SONGS OF INNOCENCE AND OF EXPERIENCE, BY VICTOR VERTUNNI THURSDAY 23TH APRIL AT 8PM, IN THE AULA MAGNA OF ESCOLA OFICIAL DE IDIOMAS DE VIGO Here is a unique opportunity to approach William Blake’s art and vision through a didactic concert performed by Victor Vertunni and four other members of Theatre of Eternal Values, international theatre company founded in Belgium in 1996, which has paid tribute to Blake’s work and life with several international productions, such as William Blake’s Divine Humanity and Eternity in an Hour. William Blake (17571827) was an outstanding revolutionary poet and artist. His work is impressive because of his ability to combine graphic art, poetry, and philosophy. Blake devoted his life to a reimagination of traditional Christian values. He rejected political and sexual repression and viewed God as an ally in the struggle to create a new human identity in which traditional opposites such as “good and evil” or “sin and virtue” would be reconciled. Victor Vertunni´s theatre company seeks to use music, mime, and dance in combination with Blake´s visual images and poetry in order to bring Blake´s message to life for modern European audiences. On Thursday 23rd, students from the EOI will be able to not only see the production but also interact with the performers, asking questions and developing an understanding of Blake´s work. The performance will include didactic features to enhance audience appreciation. Victor Vertunni graduated from the University of East Anglia UK with an honours degree in Drama and English and American Literature. He has a uniquely coloured and expressive voice that lends itself to both dramatic and musical roles and he works as a voice talent in advertising, training and radio programmes. His personal tribute to William Blake’s figure is no doubt his own recording William Blake’s Songs Of Innocence And Experience. It has been two years now since he and his family and friends have been touring different major European cities (London, Amsterdam, Milan and Paris), trying to recall the enchanting evenings in which Blake himself used to sing his own poems to an audience that would end up in a deep and silent state of awareness. Monia Giovannangeli, professional dancer, actress and teacher, and Sergio Otero, professional mime and actor, will embellish some of the Songs, and Leo and Maxim Vertunni will accompany the poems with their guitar and bass. Enjoy the show! And feel free to ask questions.
