DAILY REPORT 15th OCTOBER. 2013

Global markets at a glance Slow-moving talks to avoid a debt default in the United States and weak Chinese export data kept a lid on European shares and oil on Monday. European shares held steady early on Monday, with investors taking a cautious stance after U.S. politicians failed over the weekend to resolve budget issues and the world's biggest economy moved closer towards a debt default. Asian shares rose to their highest in nearly five months on expectations of an imminent deal to reopen the U.S. government and avert a possible debt default Japanese financial markets were closed on Monday for a public holiday. Wall Street Update U.S. stocks ended a volatile session with modest gains on Monday, as investors bet that there would soon be a deal in Washington to increase the debt limit, though there were no obvious signs of progress.
