Quick build homes Prefab houses suffer from a bad stigma but a new modular house building system which reduces the construction time by 3 weeks could help the construction industry keep up with the high demand of building new houses. The Space4 system evolved from a research project based at the EPSRC-sponsored Warwick Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre led by Professor Rajat Roy. The team explored the feasibility of using pre-manufactured components such as steel frames or composite panels, wiring looms and plastic plumbing. The modular house building system is now used by the Space4 factory to manufacture more than 8000 houses a year. The company acquired by Persimmon Homes has in its five years of operation supplied nearly 10,000 dwellings supplying just over a third of Persimmon homes.
