The fifth element we didn’t know we were looking for

When the Azimut Benetti Group announced its plans to restart production at its Italian factories in May 2020, a skeptical yachting community held its breath, crossing their fi ngers and hoping for the best.

Azimut Yachts’ then CEO, Marco Valle (now CEO of the Azimut Benetti Group), had said, “During lockdown, our international standing held us in good stead, allowing us to close contracts amounting to €30 million in orders.”

Franco Fusignani (who Marco Valle replaced as CEO at Benetti) continued, “It hasn’t been easy, but we managed to keep business going with no serious setbacks.” This was largely due to their having multiple facilities and factories spread around different regions in Italy. The Azimut Benetti Group was also a company that joined in donating PPE to its community in an effort to arrest the virus’ spread.

Over a year later, the precautions and care that the company took in the midst of pandemic, have helped to buoy Italy’s hard-hit economy. Though unable to participate in a plethora of cancelled boat shows, the Azimut Benetti Group has held virtual tours and created virtual boat shows of their own. The increased demand as its customers seek freedom, distance, and safety on the seas has resulted in 34 boats on order, with a total value of approximately €700 million. They have also unveiled new designs from their creative teams.
