In many aspects 2022 was a special year. We were delighted to host a live stallion show once again. This show was also extra special because our company has been active for 50 years and we presented our new book all about our business.
Luckily, the horses could go to competitions, shows and championships all over the world again and they didn’t let us down. Results such as; the Arezzo-son Lightfeet VDL became the Dutch Champion for 6-yearold jumpers and finished 9th at the World Championships in Lanaken. Lacoste VDL (s. Zirocco Blue) finished the world championships with a bronze medal! Our three-year-old mare O’Dame VDL (s. Etoulon) added another title to her name, she became the champion of the three-yearold jumping mares; as a foal she was also already crowned the Dutch Champion. Springsteen VDL, the Douglas-son, was the reserve champion for jumping foals this year in Ermelo. Harwich VDL (s. Arezzo) made his 1.60m debut and took the win in the Lillestrom Grand Prix.
In addition, our stallions have booked many good results, Comthago and Grand Slam were successful with Marlon Zanotelli; Kallmar together with Jur Vrieling won many international young horse classes. Inaico VDL with rider Alex Gill triumphed in Indoor Friesland in the Elfstedentochtprijs. Our five-year-old stallion Stargos VDL was unbeatable in the GMB and stallion competitions.
Three young stallions were approved by the KWPN: Orleans VDL, Oxford VDL and Olsen W VDL. Moreover, we had new stallions approved in Germany: the dressage stallion Zoretto VDL approved in Westfalen and a young For Treasure x Stakkato was approved by Hanoverian Verband. Besides these we look forward to the upcoming KWPN stallion selection show in Den Bosch where we will be present with very interestingly bred young stallions out of top mares such as Banda de Hus, Cella, Sarena and Blue Angel.
The fact that our stallions are breeding exceptionally well is proven by the WBFSH-ranking for breeding stallions. Offspring from Cardento keep winning prizes putting him in 7th place. Zirocco Blue comes in at 10th meaning he is one of the best 10 breeding stallions in the world. Baltic, Arezzo and Indoctro also make an appearance in the list from the top 100 breeding stallions in the world. And they are all available through us.
In this catalogue and on our website, you will find our entire collection. We are also active on social media to keep you up to date with the results from our stallions and their offspring. We hope that you find all of the information you are looking for but if you would like to discuss your stallion choice or get our advice always feel free to contact us!
Kind regards,
Fam. Van de Lageweg and employeesChestnut | 2005 | 1.70m
Arezzo’s sire line is unique with five generations of Grand Prix jumpers in a row: Chin Chin, Heartbreaker, Renville, Jasper and Akteur. Arezzo himself was successful, from Stallion test Champion until winning Grand Prix at high level. Arezzo’s dam line exemplifies performance, representatives are Dragonfly, Nacorde and Bubka VDL. Arezzo’s offspring are very successful. Son VDL Edgar M excelled by winning the St. Tropez and Oslo Grand Prix. VDL Lightfeet was Dutch Champion of the 6-year-olds in 2022. The offspring of Arezzo’s daughters is remarkably strong. Arezzo is a top bred sport horse and stallion.

Performance is in the blood of Brantzau. A combination of two Olympic jumping stallions, Baloubet du Rouet and Carthago. In addition, Brantzau is from Holsteiner strain 104A, one of the best performance breeding families. This line starts with the Ramzes daughter and legend Retina, and also includes the great Corland and Corradina. In sport, Brantzau won several Bundeschampionat qualifications. The stallion competed in the sport at 1.45m level. Brantzau’s offspring seem to inherit his qualities and his oldest offspring score well under saddle. Be Blue took the winners ribbon in the international class for 5-year-old at CSI De Wolden and NRPS stallion test champion Bokito van de Woestenheide placed 2nd at the same show. LP Big City Life was reserve champion in Holstein of the 4-year-olds and Intschuschuna SV was the reserve champion of the 5-year-olds.

They stand out for the way that they jump, perform and they are in high demand. Chatinue jumped himself at 1.60m level representing Mexico and is a son of world-class sire Chacco-Blue. In addition, Chatinue is the half-brother of Brian Moggre’s top stallion Balou du Reventon and the foundation sire Balou du Rouet. Sire Chacco-Blue has been leading the WBFSH ranking for showjumping stallions for a number of years with offspring like Explosion W, Chalou, Calisto Blue, Chaqui Z and Blue Movie. Chatinue’s dam Georgia can be considered one of the leading broodmares of this moment. She brought foundation sire Balou du Rouet and Balou du Reventon. Many other direct offspring, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Georgia competed at international level. Chatinue’s direct damline produced several famous showjumpers and breeding stallions, including Lord Sandro DDH, Corlida, Vertical Limit, Cabriolet and Cassius. In his sport career Chatinue was mainly ridden by Mexican riders. The Chacco-Blue son jumped up to Grand Prix level ridden by Mario Onate and Salvador Onate and was later successful with Luis Alejandro Plascencia, who jumped with Chatinue in the CSI5* competitions of Spruce Meadows, Calgary. With his brilliant pedigree, scope and mentality, Chatinue is a very valuable addition to our stallion string. The first foals are of good size, with length and good movement.
Chopano VA is a son of the Grand Prix jumping stallion Chopin, a son of Casall who impresses at the highest level under Mathilda Karlsson with his ability, rideability and the way of jumping, he qualified for the Olympic Games. His first sons jumped in the spotlight at the stallion inspections. His sire line consists of the names of Holstein’s greatest sires. Chopano VA’s dam Tamara XIII already gave the international 1.50m show jumper Zooey, while her grandson Chinchero - also a son of Chopin VA - became reserve champion of Holstein. Chopano VA’s grandmother Niveau I produced several international show jumpers and is the full sister of 1.60m show jumper Casseur de Prix. Chopano VA stands out with his impressive conformation, great way of jumping and seemingly endless scope. The Chopin-son therefore earned his breeding license with ease and with his interesting pedigree, appearance and jumping technique he seems to be an asset to breeding. Chopano VA produces generous foals with a super gallop. Chopano VA impresses at competitions, with high scores he was the best five-year-old during Jumping Tolbert and is being carefully produced by Suzanne Tepper for the future.

For many years, VDL Cartello was in the shadow of his world-famous brother Cardento, but in recent years VDL Cartello himself has become one of the very best showjumpers in the world. In 2021, VDL Cartello jumped fantastic with Darragh Kenny at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and later was one of the few horses to jump double clear in the FEI Nations Cup Final in Barcelona. In the Super Grand Prix of the GCT Play Offs in Prague, VDL Cartello finished 4th and also in the Rolex Grand Slam Grand Prix of Geneva he placed in the top 5. In addition to the Olympic VDL Cartello, his dam B-Estelle also produced the world famous Cardento. This foundation sire of VDL Stud is among the best breeding stallions of the moment with offspring like Grand Slam VDL, Kilkenny, Catch Me Not S and C-Vier 2.

Comthago’s pedigree unites the genes of show jumping phenomenon Comme Il Faut with a performance dam line from Holstein. From dam to great-great-granddam, four generations of mares that all competed with success under saddle. Comthago himself seems to combine all the assets from his pedigree: he has the appearance, canter and looseness of a modern jumping horse. He jumps with scope, a powerful take off, a good bascule and he is careful. As a young horse, Comthago was successful in the young horse classes and jumped clear in 29 of the 32 competitions. Under Marlon Modolo Zanotelli, he has continued this line of clear rounds at international level. In addition, the first Grand Prix victory is a fact, the duo triumphed in Lilleström, Norway. In addition, he took a 2nd place in the Grand Prix of Kronenberg and Oliva. Comthago VDL also performs remarkably in breeding with its offspring. His oldest offspring appear in various young horse classes, and impress with their take-off and scope.

Dallas had a successful career at Grand Prix level, ridden by Jur Vrieling. Dallas shares his dam with our other Grand Prix stallion Grand Slam VDL. In competition, Dallas showed unlimited scope, a talent his offspring seem to have his offspring are already jumping at 1.50m and 1.60m level. Daughter Inpulls scored a hat-trick in Birmingham with a victory in a 1.60m and two victories in 1.45m classes. Ivaludine S won the Temecula Grand Prix. With his inherited, as well as a great take-off, carefulness and power. Athlete Etoulon has already achieved many remarkable results. With his quick reflexes and great jumping technique, he is one of the most striking jumping stallions in the Netherlands. As a 3-year-old, Etoulon was reserve champion of the KWPN stallion inspection and he passed the stallion test with a top score of 88,5 points. Etoulon competed at international 1.50m level and was one of the most talented horses at show. His sports career had to be ended early due to an injury. In breeding, Etoulon’s offspring are doing extremely well. Already five times Etoulon sired the winner of the Dutch foal championships and 3 times daughters won the national championship for 3-year-olds. O’Dame VDL was the best foal in 2019 and was crowned the best three-year-old jumping mare last year. His offspring have taken ribbons at several championships and are now making their marks at international shows, such as Ebanking, I Am, Insider VDL, Isa Tella and Irinka Lady.

Father For Pleasure won two gold medals at the Olympics and is for many years already one of world’s best sires. Grandfather Stakkato Gold has proven also that he produces Grand Prix horses. The stallions Zeus and Raphael have both proven their great value in breeding. For Friendship’s grandmother, the Zeus daughter Zaphira, jumped at 1.50m level. For Friendship received his approval for Hannover and was awarded as Premium stallion, later on he also received his approval for the Holsteiner Verband. He is a modern type jumper with a lot of athletic scope. He is light-footed, careful and has a great attitude. With that he also shows the strong qualities of his father For Pleasure. For Friendship became the performance champion with an average score of 8.80. Later in Verden high eights were the result of the sports test of For Friendship VDL. For Friendship is developing well in his sporting career. As a 5-year-old he was supreme in the stallion competitions with two victories and a 4th place. Last year he continued his success with many clear rounds at national and international competitions. In the stallion competition he was 3rd in Kronenberg and 7th in Exloo.
“SPITTING IMAGE OF HIS FATHER”
At the Oldenburger Stallion Show, For Treasure showed unlimited scope, a fantastic technique and super overview whilst jumping. He was chosen as the Reservesieger of the Oldenburger Stallion Approvals. One-year later he was honoured again in Vechta by the jumping committee, this time as “Hauptprämiensieger”. For Treasure also lived up to expectations during his stallion test. In Adelheidsdorf he succeeded with a final score of 9.3 for jumping, among other things he received a 10 for his talent as a show jumper. High eights were the result of the sports test of For Treasure in Verden. Sire For Pleasure hardly needs an introduction; he won Olympic team gold and became one of the most influential showjumping sires of all time. Grandsire is the legendary Carthago who took part in two Olympics as well. Further on, For Treasure’s pedigree goes back to the influential stallions Ramiro, Jasper and the thoroughbred Lucky Boy. Dam Carthana Z already produced the successful 1.55m showjumper Engelien. The very promising For Treasure seems to be an asset for the future with his complete pedigree, modern stallion appearance and unlimited scope. His oldest offspring are now 3 years old and are making waves at the stallion approvals in Germany.

At the young age of 3, Grand Slam was already showing his great abilities as a jumper. During the KWPN stallion test, he earned the highest mark given for jumpers – an incredible 90 points! He continues to prove those points were well deserved as he progresses in his competition career. Grand Slam already won the CSI1* Grand Prix in Zwolle as a 7-year-old. Now, under Marlon Zanotelli, Grand Slam VDL has developed into a sensational Grand Prix horse at 5* level, he placed 2nd in the GCT of Prague and placing 6th in the tough Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Valkenswaard. His great bloodlines combine the genes of such the great talents: Cardento, Heartbreaker and Mr Blue. Grand Slam also shares his dam with the talented Grand Prix stallion Dallas VDL. Although still young, his offspring look very promising – they show light-footed movement, good reflexes, quick take off and scope. Daughter Lannamieka VDL was the queen of the year at the KWPN Mareshow. His oldest offspring stand out and compete at international level. Grand Slam is a complete stallion for sport and breeding.

Impressive is a generously developed stallion who jumps with a lot of power. He does not have that from a stranger. His sire line, Douglas, Contender, Corofino and Lord are stallions that guarantee that. His mother Atendri brought the 1.60m Grand Prix horse Easton VDL. Her sister brought the Grand Prix horse For Cento. Grandmother produced the 1.50m jumping horse Corrido and the 1.60m jumping Prestigious. With a high score of 82.5 points Impressive succeeded for his stallion test. He impresses in the course with his canter and power. He already showed this in Poznan where he jumped in the Puissance to a height of 1.95m. His offspring show size and they have front, good conformation and three good gaits. From his first crop sons Massimo SMH and My Favorite got approved. Daughter Megason VDL was one of the best three-year-old jumping bred mares in the Netherlands.

Harley enjoyed a successful career at international level where he consistently showed his fantastic technique, reflexes and attitude. Being a son of Heartbreaker, he passes these qualities on to his offspring while adding the scope of the Olympic stallion Carthago via his dam Larthago. Larthago competed at international level and is also the mother of the approved stallions Cevin Z and Cassado, along with several other international jumpers. The offspring of Harley are doing very well and can be seen competing up to the international level, proving that he deserves the Preferent predicate that he received from the KWPN.

Granddam Carte Blanche Z is dam of the Olympic stallion VDL Hardrock Z. In addition, Carte Blanche Z produced the Grand Prix showjumper Charlemagne JT Z of Italy’s Silvia Bazzani and Riccardo Pisani. Well-known Grand Prix showjumpers such as Skejarbergs Larkin of Pal Flam, Zippo Z of Freddie Vazquez, Camaro Z of Pedro Veniss, JK Horsetrucks Leasure Z of Katharina Offel and Lord II Z of Geir Gulliksen are closely related to Orleans as well. In the KWPN Performance Test, Orleans emerged as one of the most promising stallions with a total score of 82 points. He was very positively noticed for his excellent rideability and balance in canter and he also showed off his jumping talent with his quick reflexes and great way of jumping.
Olsen W is the first KWPN approved son of the highly successful VDL Glasgow van ‘t Merelsnest. Several offspring of Glasgow are now breaking through at the highest level, including the highly successful showjumper High Five ridden by Mexico’s Fernando Martinez Sommer. Olsen W combines the unlimited scope of Glasgow van ‘t Merelsnest with the sharpness of sire Carrera VDL. His offspring are now jumping at top level and stand out for their outstanding reflexes and excellent technique. The promising Olsen W is bred out of the mare Cuba Libre W Z, who also produced the KWPN approved stallion Nouri W VDL. Cuba Libre W Z scored 84 points in the KWPN IBOP test. This famous Hilly line has produced many international showjumpers in the past; Olsen W is closely related to Grand Prix jumpers such as Carpaccio, For Killy, Caspar, Turbo R and Zargo Z. Olsen W passed the KWPN Performance Test convincingly, scoring 8’s and 8.5’s on all jumping sections with a total score of 82. All this combined with his excellent pedigree makes Olsen W a complete and valuable young stallion for breeding.

Toledo is one of the first breeding stallions of jumping phenomenon Tobago Z. Ridden by Daniel Deusser, he won in 2022 alone, the Rolex Grand Prix of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Global Champions Tour of New York as well as the Super Grand Prix of Prague. Toledo combines the genes of Tobago Z with the Chellano Z daughter Caroline Z, a direct daughter of top-class mare Larthago. With Mathijs van Asten, Larthago jumped successfully up to 1.50m-level and in breeding her success is even greater. For example, she is dam of the ‘Preferent’ awarded stallion Harley VDL, who made his mark in breeding as one of the best Heartbreaker sons. Larthago also produced the successful Cevin Z and the 1.60m jumping KWPN-approved Casago. In addition, Larthago is dam of several international showjumpers, such as Hopes Are High Z, Soren Z, Einstein, Casago II and Dimitri Z. Toledo’s dam Caroline Z also produced the Oldenburg approved Castellani Z, who competes at 1.45m level, and the international jumpers Contour Z and Contour II Z. She is also granddam of the international jumper Eloy and great-granddam of the 1.50m jumper Action Man Ask, who is approved in Denmark, Hannover and at Zangersheide. Making a great impression, Barton VDL was approved with the Oldenburg Verband. His elegant type and athletic movements make him a very promising stallion for the future. At moment he is showing his skills at Z2 -dressage level. Father Bordeaux is proven in both sport and breeding. He competed at Grand Prix level and has already sired many approved stallions for several studbooks and many talented young dressage horses. Grandfather Sir Donnerhall I has produced a large number of Prix St. Georges and Grand Prix horses. Further in the pedigree we find legend Rubinstein I. Barton’s mother, Honigbluete (a sister to the Grand Prix stallion Degas) is also mother to the approved stallion Don du Ciel and the Prix St. Georges competitor Heide.
The Mecklenburg premium stallion Expectation is bred from the first crop of the vice-World Champion of 6-year-old dressage horses Escamillo. Expectation himself is striking for his appearance, harmonious conformation and good way of moving. Sire Escamillo impressed with his first crop of stallions at the various stallion shows and in addition to premium stallion Expectation, Escamillo also produced the Westphalian vice-champion Escaneno. Expectation’ damline produced many successful dressage horses; dam Simply Fine - sport name Farosa PS - won bronze at the Bundeschampionat as a 3-year-old ridden by Anja Engelbart. Her full brother Fashion Prinz was crowned Oldenburg champion of the 4-year-old stallions and placed 4th at the Bundeschampionat. Expectation’ granddam Senaria also produced the licensed stallion Zinq Founder FH, who is currently performing excellently with junior rider Lana-Pinou Baumgürtel. Expectation got an endnote of 8,13 for his stalliontest in Schlieckau.
“IMPRESSIVE PREMIUM STALLION BY VICE WORLD CHAMPION ESCAMILLO”
Merlot was honoured as one of the KWPN premium stallions. With only foundation stallions in a row in his pedigree and bred out of the famous Landsvrouw damline, Merlot is also genetically a highly interesting stallion for dressage breeding. From this family come also the stallions Incognito and Glock’s Undercover N.O.P.; Edward Gal’s top dressage horse. Merlot’s sire Bordeaux is one of the new foundation sires. From the beginning, Merlot stood out and confirmed this in the performance test where he was crowned Champion with a high score of 85.5 points. In the stallion competition, Merlot shows his qualities under the saddle of Femke de Laat, he moves with a lot of suppleness, a good front and hindleg, has a good rideability and a fantastic attitude. For his performances he was placed high and received high notes already. According to rider and trainer, he has all the possibilities for the highest work. Merlot’s foals are beautiful complete foals with three good gaits and show a lot of suppleness.
At the Westphalian Stallion Show, Zoretto immediately caught the eye and earned his breeding licence. Zoretto VDL is a son of Zenon VDL - this black stallion combines the genes of Glock’s Zonik with the legendary Don Schufro. Zoretto’s dam Frilita is sired by the Contender son Chello III, who contributes not only in show jumping breeding but also in eventing and dressage breeding. In addition, Zoretto VDL’s pedigree goes back to the foundation sires Nimmerdor and Lucky Boy xx, providing a strong foundation for his pedigree. Sire Zenon VDL himself performs in dressage sport and has produced several successful horses in breeding and gave besides Zoretto also the approved stallion Zelebration. Zoretto’s granddam Nikita was successful in breeding herself and is the full sister of the well-known stallion Wellington and of the stallion Elberton. Wellington did not only produce the successful stallions Emilion, Glennridge and Farrington, but also the wellknown dressage horses Bollvorms Ceylon and Luxaflex. Zoretto ‘s damline also produced Hubertus Schmidt’s Grand Prix dressage horse Rambo and the Small Tour horses Fantasie and Eye Catcher. Zoretto stands out for his elegant appearance, good type and active, light-footed way of moving. He has a great posture with an impressive front and presence. With his unique genetics, Zoretto is certainly interesting for dressage breeding.

Gefriersamen:
