House in Alentejano .Arraiolos .Portugal
Beyond the Tejo river you can find one of the most blooming areas of the Portugal and a popular holiday resort. The goal of Design Studio I - for this reason - is to design a week-end house for an single family. A fourteen meters side square encloses a big cooking-dining-relaxing space, two bedrooms, one guest room and three bathrooms. The relationship between inner and outer is established in two different ways. A patio - that lights the bedrooms - for the contact with the sky and a platform to join the landscape. This one is intended before as an extension of the inner space then as an appedange that proctracts along the slope and shuts in a one-person open air room.

Can the Stone Speak? .Tadmor .Syria
The aim of the workshop hosted by Solano Benitez was to design a ‘roof’ for Syrian people. This public space would have been the new urban heart for people interested in recostruction. Our challenge was to build it using materials reachable on site. Relating to statistics since the war had begun oil trade was the only one exchange that had increased its strenght and had consequently produced a rising reject of iron drums. The use of drums and material as expressive instrument became the units of the project. Joined each other they turned into a huge formwork where the concrete was poured in giving a peculiar shape . The square consisted of three rectangular hollow tank-pillars and of an horizontal concrete roof slab that weights over them.

Place of Worship .Tanaf .Senegal
Intended as an enclosed garden - this place of worship for every kind of religion figures out as a strong abstraction of three different fundaments: the medieval hortus conclusus, the Mezquita Cathedral porch and the African hut. No roof covers the church that consists of an external surrounding wall made of dense pillars that shields a rectangular clebration hall flanked by a nave. The horizontal development of the building is broken by a hike in the facade. Here the thick envelope of pillars hides a dense two level porch. On the other side a raised circle marks the ground. On the top of it the fathers officiates, under the ground level the devotee can find its spiritual shed.

Liberty Museum .Liberty Island .NY .USA
Looking at the Nike of Samothrace - on its pedestal - at the end of the Daru staircase I felt a great sense of levity come to me. It was very good for me to see the smooth statue dominating on the stone background. Approaching to a ‘liberty museum’ I tought to do the same: put a ‘scenery flat’ at the rear of the Symbol of freedom and welcome. The elevation is designed starting from the Golden ratio. The section, instead, moves his line towards the sky: the peak represents freedom. The inner space - in fact - even if characterized by a big surface - is intended as a vertically oriented void that closes in the fulcrum-peak.

Urban Parallelism .Padua .Italy
Padua’s urban tissue comes out as an example of high builnding density. Its Schwarzplan underlines the lack of urban voids: both the front and the rear of the blocks are built. The city needs to breathe. Starting from this - the project - student housing, facilities and expo area - aims to create a pause along the built fronts. A new square opens on Riviera Tito Livio side and establishes a relationship with an old Roman wall ruin. On Via Roma side - instead - the library building joins the built front and two access to the square are guaranteed. In the middle of the piazza the porch supports a one level exposition area that continues under the ground level. In the two transparent bodies over the ‘gallery’ we find the accomodations for the students and the reserved common spaces.
