Volunteering vs Occupational Strand Differences and similarities between Volunteering Projects and Traineeships & Jobs Projects Volunteering Projects » Based on voluntary and unpaid work » Activities in non-formal and informal learning context » Opportunity for young people to acquire useful experience, skills and competences for their personal, educational, social, civic and professional development, while improving their active citizenship » Organisations from Participating Countries and Partner Countries can take part » Project duration: 3 – 24 months » Individual Volunteering: 2 – 12 months (also from 2 weeks for young people with fewer opportunities) » Volunteering Teams: 2 weeks – 2 months (for a group of 10 – 40 volunteers from at least 2 different countries) » All participating organisations need to have a valid and relevant accreditation - Quality Label for Volunteering: Supporting / Host role » No job substitution is allowed » Based on a written volunteering agreement » No previous qualifications, educational level, specific experience or language knowledge must be required from the participants » The provisions of the European Solidarity Corps Charter must be respected

Solidarity related activities addressing important societal challenges and benefiting local communities Broad range of areas for a project: environmental protection, climate change mitigation and greater social inclusion Activities that are part of curricula in formal education, vocational education and training systems and activities for emergency response are not allowed Activities include a learning component and are aimed at improving participants’ employability In-country and cross-border activities Advance Planning Visits and Complementary Activities available Contribution to additional personal expenses for participants available Inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities – additional funding available (Inclusion Support) Similar funding rules: Travel, Organisational Support, Linguistic Support, Exceptional Costs, etc. Same stages of the project: preparation, implementation and follow-up Same IT tools: PASS for searching for and recruiting participants and using Mobility Tool + to record spending Recognition of learning outcomes via Youthpass
Traineeships & Jobs Projects » Based on work practice / employment remunerated in line with the national regulatory framework » Activities include a training component » Opportunity for young people to enhance their skills and experience, thus facilitating their transition into the labour market » Organisations only from Member States of the European Union can participate » Project duration: 6-24 months » Traineeships activities: 2-6 months (can be renewed by a further 6 months at application stage) » Jobs activities: 3-12 months » Applicant must hold a relevant Quality Label: for Traineeships / Jobs, but partner organisations do not need Quality Label » Traineeships cannot lead to job substitution and must be accompanied by appropriate on-the-job supervision, mentoring and support upon return » Based on a written traineeship/employment contract » No Timetable of Activities required » Applicant organisation can deliver the project by itself or in cooperation with other participating organisations » Quality Framework for Traineeships must be observed
