Easily Collect Sludge Samples From The Bottom Of Petroleum Tanks
2" Tank Sludge Sampling Kit
Often times tanks can be 50 ft+ in height making this the perfect sampler kit since the components are made from lightweight aluminum. Having a solid/rigid extension strand gives the operator the ability to push and twist the sampler deep into the sludge.
The valved core tip has a built in 1-way valve which resembles a door hinge. As the sampler is pressed into the sludge, the 1-way valve opens and fills the sampler. When the sampler is pulled up from the sludge the valve closes and traps any sediment and liquid inside the sampler.
The second tip, the core catcher tip uses a disposable plastic soil catcher that fits on the end of a 2" plastic liner. As the sampler is pushed into the sludge, the core catcher teeth open up allowing the material to enter the sampler. As the sampler is raised, these teeth close and restrict the sample from falling back out.
The specialized top cap of the sampler is also an important component of the kit. During deployment, the viton rubber flap cap opens and allows excess air and water to escape through the oversized vent holes of the sampler top cap – eliminating pressure buildup. When the sampler is lifted the flap closes over these vent holes and creates suction to assist in retaining the sample.

Ideal For Sampling Dry Sand, Loose Sediment & Sludges That Has Settled At The Bottom Of Drums & Tanks
Sand & Sediment Probes
These probes are capable of recovering high-quality core samples in a variety of loose or saturated materials. This small diameter sampler comes equipped with a heat-treated replaceable core tip that has been bored out to accept a 1" core catcher and 1" x 24" plastic liner. This feature minimizes the gap between the tip and body of the sampler – resulting in a more representative core sample. The core catcher helps to ensure full sample recovery in the proper soil conditions. An oversized vent hole at the top of the sampler allows ambient air and liquids to escape while the sampler is pushed to the desired sampling depth.
The probe body is made of nickel-plated chromoly; the tip is made of heat-treated, nickel-plated chromoly. Additional extensions can be used to reach deeper sampling depths. If sampling in compacted deposits, compact and regular slide hammers can be used to drive the sampler.
Includes
• 10" cross handle with grips, 5/8" thread
• 1-1/4" stainless steel replaceable sand probe tip
• Spanner wrench
• 1-3/4" o-ring for thread
• 1" x 25-3/4" or 1" x 37-3/4" plastic liner
• (2) 1" plastic end cap
• 1" core catcher

Used For Discrete-Interval Sediment Sampling Below Water & Below The Surface Of The Sediment In Rivers, Lakes, Wetlands & Estuaries
Soggy Bottom Sampling System Complete
The sampler can take continuous or discrete samples from the sediment surface to 4 ft in depth.
To obtain a sample, the assembled sampler is lowered to the surface or driven down to the depth where sampling is to begin. Upon reaching the sampling depth, the inner rods attached to the internal drive tip are retracted. When removing the internal rods, the internal drive tip is released and retained in a chamber at the top of the sampler. Next, the slide hammer with the 1-1/8" vented hammer adapter is attached, and the sampler is driven to collect the sample. Once the sample has been collected, the rods and sampler are pulled out of the borehole.
If sampling in hard or tight sediments, the user may reverse hammer with the slide hammer or use the optional removal jack and chain pull cap. After removal, the sampler disassembles to allow access to the liners which can then be capped for transport to the lab.

• Soggy bottom sampler external drive tip
• Soggy bottom sampler internal drive tip

Ideal For Use In Palaeoecological Analysis Of Bog And Salt Marshes, Collection Of Uncompressed Cores In Poorly Decomposed Woody Peat & Shallow Water Applications
Russian Sediment/Peat Borer
Complete Kit
The Russian Peat Borer (6 cm x 50 cm) is a side filling chambered-type sampler. This discrete point sampler enables one to drive the sampler to any point in the sediment profile in the closed (empty) position. Once the target depth is reached, the "T" handle is turned clockwise to initiate the sampling while the pivoting cutting plate supports the cutting action of the borer. As the sampler is turned 180 degrees, the sharpened edge of the borer tube longitudinally cuts a semi-cylindrical shaped sample until the opposite side of the cutting plate is contacted. The contained sample can now be recovered without risk of contamination by overlying sediments. The sample is extruded from the borer by a counterclockwise rotation where the sample rests on the cutting plate ready for sectioning.

Accessories
• (2) Russian borer 1.2 m aluminum extension, 7/8" thread
• Russian borer t-handle, 7/8" thread
• Russian borer (sampler head only)
• Russian peat carrying case
Great For Collecting Sludge & Sediment Samples
Ekman Dredge
The nominal bucket dimensions are 6" wide x 6" in height x 6" deep with an approximate sampling footprint of 36 square inches. With it being spring-loaded, it is triggered to close using a messenger that travels down the attached rope, or by pushing on the top with the optional 5 ft extension handle. The Ekman Dredge is made with 300 series stainless steel.
• Ekman dredge
• Ekman dredge messenger
• 1/4" x 100 ft nylon rope
• Storage bucket with lid

Great For Grab Sampling Sand Or Silt
5 lb Stainless Steel Sand & Silt Dredge
It features a hinged scissor jaw that is 6" x 7-1/2" when fully opened with an approximate sampling footprint of 45 square inches. It is designed with a trigger mechanism that holds the sampler open until it contacts the surface being sampled. Raising the dredge closes the scissor jaws to collect the sample. It is made of 300 series stainless steel.
The dredge can be triggered to close using the messenger and rope, or by pushing on the top of the optional handle. Includes
Primarily Used To Sample Sand & Silt But Can Be Used To Sample Most Types Of Non-cohesive Material, Except Hardpacked Clay
15 lb & 25 lb Stainless Steel Bottom Dredge
The 15 lb dredge is suitable for most sediments. The 25 lb dredge will sink faster and push deeper into sediments. Both dredges feature a 6" x 6" jaw opening that provides a 36 square inches sampling area. The sampler bodies and jaws are made of 300 series stainless steel. The arms are made of powder-coated carbon steel.
The top of the sampling chambers are screened to allow water to flow through during deployment and to reduce displacement and shock wave effects that may cause sample loss. A two-way mechanism prevents accidental closure while the dredge is dropping. The impact of the dredge on the bottom surface triggers the spring-loaded release mechanism to close the sampler. One of the jaws is fitted with an under lip to displace stones or gravel during closure. After closure, the dredge is pulled up to retrieve the sample. Careful release will distribute the sample approximately as it appeared on the bottom, making sediment profile description possible.

Inf Z ne How it Works
When the trigger on The Sludge Gun® is depressed, a LED transmits a pulse of infrared light across a gap in the probe. The beam is received by a phototransistor on the other side of the gap. If the gap contains air or clear liquid, nothing happens. However, when suspended solids are encountered in the gap, some beam energy is absorbed and the rear-facing speaker on the back end of the gun emits an audible tone. As the suspended solids concentration increases, both the pitch and volume of the tone increase, which gives the operator a clear indication of the location of the thickest sludge. By holding the trigger and listening to the note, while slowly moving the probe up and down, the operator can observe the depth markers on the cable and establish the location of both the sludge blanket and the overlying unsettled layer or cloud.
A spool on the front of the gun allows convenient storage for the cable. The Sludge Gun® Portable Sludge Blanket Level Detector is easy for an operator to carry from tank to tank. This rugged tool is a valuable addition to any plant.
