ABOUT ME

ERICA STEWART

I am currently a third year interior design student at Philadelphia University. Throughout my time studying interior design, I have had the opportunity to design a variety of building types and as I continue to study and work in the field, I hope to begin focusing more on commercial design. I am interested in working in set and theater, corporate, and healthcare design. I also believe it is important to focus on sustainability and the health and well-being of a building’s occupants. I studied abroad in Rome, Italy in the fall semester of my junior year and I hope to incorporate that experience in my future designs and career.

PODS: BOERUM HILL COUNSELING AND SELF-CARE CENTER

This counseling and self-care center project was an interdisciplinary collaborative project. I worked with an architecture student and another interior design student to create a small center in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. Together, we researched the demographics of the area and decided to create a counseling center where young professionals who may be suffering from anxiety or depression could focus on self-care in the form of escapism.

This project is based in the near distant future and uses technology to virtually surrounds users with the environment of their choosing while the pods allow individuals to customize a small private space of their own. For the final drawings, my contribution to the collaboration was to render all of the interior perspectives in 3DS Max.

The overall goal of this project was to design a loft in Center City Philadelphia for a Danish father, daughter, and grandmother that embraces their culture and suits their needs. The concept for this project was whimsy; to create a functional, modern loft that represents the happiness of the Danish culture using natural daylight, functional design, and whimsical elements. The project was all hand-drafted.

STUDIO APARTMENT

SPRING 2017

This project was done for my advanced visualization course. We were asked to model a small studio apartment in SketchUp and render the project in 3DS Max.

17

For this project, I had to customize several materials and apply them throughout different areas. This project allowed me to strengthen my skills in space planning for small areas as well as deepen my understanding of digital modeling and rendering.

MATERIALS

The concept for this project was to create a restaurant that incorporates Danish elements of nature and design by taking inspiration from the Aurora Borealis and Danish minimalistic design using a living wall, natural plants and greenery, and a lighting installation with projectors to represent the Northern Lights on a symmetrical and orthogonal plan. This was my first computer drawn project. I used AutoCad for the drawings and SketchUp for the model and perspective views. I then hand rendered the final project. SMALL OPHTHALMOLOGIST OFFICE

SPRING 2016

For this project, I chose to design a small ophthalmologist office with my concept being to base the floor plan off of the structure of an eye. This project was done in AutoCad and SketchUp and hand rendered for the final project.

ARMANI SHOWROOM

GROUND FLOOR PLAN

FALL 2016

This was my first major design project while studying abroad in Rome in the Fall Semester of my junior year. We were asked to choose a fashion brand and design a showroom in a prominent fashion district in Rome which is located by the Spanish Steps.

SECTION

The two perspective renderings shown were my first computer renderings for an interior design project. My first rendering shows an irregular shaped, gold clothing rack which I felt optimized the amount of space for showcasing fashion products in this asymmetrical building plan My other render shows the elegant and simplistic design of the entry showroom with materials I felt related to Armani and the area the building was located in.. FALL 2016

This is the second and final project I completed while studying abroad in Rome. For this project, we were asked to design a bookstore located in EUR, Rome for a client of our choosing. I chose Luisa Lambri, an Italian photographer, whose work focuses on capturing interior spaces.

38

The concept for my design was to create a bookstore resembling the minimalistic style of the buildings Luisa Lambri photographs and the exteriors she is able to capture through window frames and shutters by utilizing natural light, greenery and other elements of nature, and organic forms within a structured grid.
