ERICA STEWART INTERIOR DESIGN

ABOUT ME

I graduated from Jefferson University in the spring of 2018 with a B.S. in interior design. While in school, I worked as an office assistant on campus for three years, apart from my semester abroad in Italy. During my final year, I interned at two architecture and design firms. While working as a full-time student, I maintained a strong academic record, earning Dean’s List twice. This experience allowed me to improve my time management, organizational skills, and multitasking skills. I am creative and passionate about interior design and the impact it has on people and the environment. I am proficient in both AutoCAD and Revit for drawing and documentation. The courses I have taken in college, as well as the professional experience I have acquired, have provided me with digital modeling and rendering skills. LEED accredited with a focus on sustainability, I believe in creating spaces that benefit both people and the environment. I am a highly motivated and creative professional seeking to advance my interior design career.

THE FOUNDRY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER This project is a continuation of the semester long research book I wrote on performing arts centers for my capstone design project. The concept is to transform a historical steel factory into a modern performing arts center that showcases the movement of music, drama, and dance by contrasting curvilinear elements with the existing rigid structure.

OF UNSOUND MIND MUSEUM This museum focuses on the social issue of intolerance and its effect on mental health. The architectural design of the building’s interior, as well as the exhibits themselves, force museum visitors to wander through a disorienting maze and indirectly experience the feelings associated with depression, anxiety, body dysmorphia, and more. The concept of the design is empathy with the goal of educating people about mental health issues while also showing those who may be suffering that there is hope.

POP! AD AGENCY

SPRING 2017

This advertising agency, located in an adaptive reuse building in Northeast Philadelphia, is inspired by pop art and the way advertisements and consumerism culture were portrayed. This concept was achieved by incorporating bright colors and contrasting patterns to create an energetic and unique office space. All the materials used are environmentally friendly. The building also contains skylights to maximize daylight, a water cistern to collect rainwater for green roofs and restrooms, and other sustainable elements.

STUDIO APARTMENT

SPRING 2017

This small studio apartment project was modeled in SketchUp and rendered in 3DS Max. For this project, I customized several materials and furniture items which allowed me to strengthen my skills in digital modeling and rendering.

PODS: BOERUM HILL COUNSELING AND SELF-CARE CENTER This counseling and self-care center was an interdisciplinary collaborative project. I worked with an architecture student and another interior design student to create a small center in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. Together, we researched the demographics of the area and decided to create a counseling center where young professionals who may be suffering from stress or anxiety could focus on self-care in the form of escapism.

This project is based in the near distant future and uses technology to virtually surrounds users with the environment of their choosing while the pods allow individuals to customize a small private space of their own. For the final presentation, my contribution to the collaboration was to render all of the interior perspectives in 3DS Max.

DANISH RESTAURANT

FALL 2015

The concept for this Danish restaurant was inspired by the Aurora Borealis and the minimalism aesthetic of Danish design. This project includes a living wall, natural plants and greenery, and a lighting installation with projectors to represent the Northern Lights on a symmetrical and orthogonal plan. For the final presentation, the drawing was drafted in AutoCad, modeled in SketchUp, and rendered by hand.

SHUTTER BOOKSTORE

FALL 2016

This is the second and final project I completed while studying abroad in Rome. For this project, we were asked to design a bookstore located in EUR, Rome for a client of our choosing. I chose Luisa Lambri, an Italian photographer, whose work focuses on capturing interior spaces. The concept for my design was to create a bookstore resembling the minimalistic style of the buildings Luisa Lambri photographs and the exteriors she is able to capture through window frames and shutters by utilizing natural light, greenery and other elements of nature, and organic forms within a structured grid.
