… AM I GOING MAD?!

A mini-zine for SuperNormal 2016 compiled by ERICA SMITH Featuring GIRLFRENZY artists and other wonderful female creatives

…OR AM I ?!

© ERICA SMITH written a long time ago for SLAMPT!

GirlFrenzy kept me busy through the ’90s when I had a boring job and had ‘issues’ that I wanted to explore – like feminism & sexism & anarchism. I didn’t know what a ‘zine’ was when I started one. In the ‘noughties’ I blanked zines out of my life. Now, in my 50s, with changes coming upon me and a changing political environment, I’m welcoming zines back into my life as my favourite organs of reproduction! I hope you enjoy this SuperNormal mini-zine. With love, Erica xxx

Rachael did Red Hanky Panky zine back in the day. She also had a strip in GF 6 & the Millennial www.rachaelhouse.com

Myfanwy Tristram was one of the original GirlFrenzy contributors back in the ’90s, but then gave up silly old comics for more sensible things like parenthood and a full time job. She has now seen the error of her ways and returned to the welcoming arms of the comic drawing sorority. See her stuff at www.myfanwytristram.com

Kate Evans’ very first comic strip was published in GirlFrenzy 5. It was about her childhood memories of Greenham Common.

Leanne Franson is a Canadian artist and illustrator who has producied a prolific number of Liliane mini-comics over the years. Liliane is Leanne’s thinly disguised autobiographical alter-ego. Here she is again, bang up-to-date at 53! You can see more of Leanne’s work on her website. www.leannefranson.com

Suzy Varty is a British comics artist, writer, and editor. In the late 1970s, she compiled, contributed to and edited HerÜine, the first anthology of comics by women to be published in the UK. She has participated in the Underground Comix and Wimmen’s Comix movements in the U.S. and remains active in the British Comics scene. Find her on Facebook!

Kate Charlesworth is a super-cool cartoonist, illustrator and writer. She was already established and, to be honest, a bit too famous to be included in GirlFrenzy – but I think she always wanted to be in it! She has a wonderful drawing style, great narrative and the most beautiful lettering. Kate has created daily, weekly and monthly strips plus single panel cartoons, illustrations and features in a variety of styles and formats for a wide range of clients across the media, including newspapers, magazines, print and electronic publishing, animation and websites, for individuals, companies and organisations. www.katecharlesworth.com
