2010-2012

As a designer, I am faced with making critical and analytical decisions that affect my success inside and outside of the classroom. With over 10 years of office management experience I have collaborated and worked with diverse professionals in various industries. I hold an AAS in Business Technology and a BBA in Marketing from The University of the District of Columbia. For the past two years I have studied at The George Washington University enrolled in their MFA, Interior Architecture Program. This has allowed me to undergo challenging small design projects such as commercial space planning, as well as participate in staging and installations for residential clients. My achievements are a result of taking classroom applications and developing them into my work ethics and practices in a professional work environment. While I still have much to learn, I eagerly desire to become the best designer that I can be. While I face challenges related to codes, regulations, and space planning I am confident that I can offer solutions and design alternatives that prove that I have the makings of a great designer and that I have a creative eye. As Frank Gehry once said, “Your best work is an expression of yourself. Now you may not be the greatest at it, but when you do it, you’re the only expert.”

THE THRONE CHAIR DESIGN

To create a chair, bench, or stool from a used material. The original concept was to create a comfortable stool that would support an adult with sustainable materials, but after several iterations, the stool evolved into a chair designed perfectly for a tween that not only is constructed out of used materials but provides support and comfortable for all occasions. After testing materials, toilet paper wrapped and foil and stabilized with thin sheets of foam core were used to create a chic and fun chair that is durable, giving birth to “The Throne”. This is urban chic with a splash of sophistication.

TEA CEREMONY JAPANESE TEA: “SAVORED MOMENT” A Japanese tea ceremony called chaji Concept: adoration for the beautiful among the sordid circumstances of life by leaving the physical world to enter the spiritual world.

Meaning: through tea recognition is given that every human encounter is singular occasion which can, and will, never recur again exactly. Thus every aspect of tea must be “savored” for what it gives the participant(s).

Purpose: guest(s) expresses his/her appreciation for the tea and adoration for life through a purification process by letting go of the physical life (impurities) and embracing wholeness (purity) of spiritual life.

BEFORE & AFTER GRAPHIC DESIGN

PHOTOSHOP 3 WEEKS

BEFORE: ORIGINAL IMAGE

Working from an assigned image of an interior RESIDENTIAL space, Photoshop was used to touch and up and give this space an appearance of realism. The final image incorporates paint or wall covers, floor coverings, wall/surface image additions, and furniture treatments. Residential design is the design of the interior of private residences. As this type design is very specific for individual situations, the needs and wants of the individual are paramount in this area of interior design. The interior designer may work on the project from the initial planning stage or may work on the remodeling of an existing structure. It is often a very involved process that takes months to fine tune and create a space with the vision of the client. Fine examples of contemporary designers include Kelly Hoppen and David Collins who in keeping with current trends have both a strong media presence and successful independent business.

GRAPHIC DESIGN This project entailed finding two images of objects unrelated in function, but similar in form and other physical characteristics. Using Photoshop, I combined these objects into one, celebrating the features of each, but making them seem cohesive, belonging together. By using two different images, adjusted them to visually ‘fit’ and have a similar lighting quality, coloration, and proportion. I enhanced the overall image with blending and special effects. I then placed the hybrid object on a background that was imported as a separate image, something strong and powerful that was cohesive with the two combined images. Lastly, I added a slogan to create an advertisement for the product resulting in a poster that has movement and makes a bold statement.

LETTER IS DRAWING GRAPHIC DESIGN The interplay between word and image is vital to any designer. Words are the most common symbols of a language. We write in symbols and yet we see and think in images not words. The follow image uses text to explore how meaning can be illustrated, using the expressive capabilities of shapes, type, space and imagery in communicating an image with a culmination of words. Graphic Designer Alan Fletcher once said, "We don't think in words. The temptation to equate thinking with language is because words are more palpable than thoughts. After all– I’m thinking – if I couldn’t talk to myself how would I know what I was thinking? . OLD POEM 1995 Fade Away Life is change, and change is life Snow or rain things get rearranged, Just say ok, you can’t fight it anyway. Accepted the fact that you switch tracks You can’t go back so don’t think about that Because it’s a trap don’t take a step back, So move on, and say so long. It’s not wrong life goes on, What is next is a mystery The rest is a page of your history So let it be, and it will fade away.

CLOCKTOWER CAFÉ DESIGN ANSWERS THE FUNDAMENTAL QUESTION OF MEANING AND/OR PURPOSE; LIFE, SAFE AND WELFARE. THIS PROJECT INVESTIGATES THIS QUESION BY TAKING AN EXISTING CLOCKTOWER AND TRANFORMING IT INTO A BEAUTIFL SPACE THAT ALLOWS ITS INHABITANTS TO CONVERSE AND TAKE A BREATHER FROM A BUSY STUDY LIFE.

AT CLOCKTOWER CAFE YOU LIVE A LIFE OF SCHOLARSHIP, EXPERIENCE SECURED SURROUNDINGS, AND PARTICIPATE IN CONDUCT THAT WILL CHANGE THE WORLD AND THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU .

L’ESAGANO

THE HEXAGON

shape as grid

The concept of my design adopts the idea of Renaissance architecture using geometric shape as a grid in hexagonal patterns. This form serves two purpose: 1) to disperse; and 2) To unify. The first element utilizes books stacks that purpose to disperse and divide areas, creating “private moments” within the public space of the library. The second element similarly utilizes book stacks that purpose to unify, creating “communal” moments within the public space of the café and reading area. Furthermore, the reading area transforms into a multi-functional flexible space that houses extra-curricular activities, lectures, and special events. Not only is this practical and cost-efficient, but beneficial to the local community, students, and tourists of Florence, Italy. The hexagonal form serves not only to create boundary within the historic structure, but natural accessibility and circulation into other spaces. There are my benefits to be gained from the use of space grid structures, including structural efficiency, reduced deflections, integration of services, resilience, ease of construction, and regularity. My design emphasizes shape as grid using hexagonal geometry to define space, function, and program; creating a beautiful library, café, and hybrid reading space. Welcome to L’esagano!
