UCSD Rimac Annex La Jolla, California This building occupies a very prominent, hillside site along the “Ridge Walk” that bi-sects the North Campus at UC San Diego. The Ridge Walk commemorates the original alignment of US Highway 101 as it traversed the site prior to the establishment of the university. The three-level, 15,700 SF building provides an upscale café, a campus store, and a lounge on its main level; a conference center on the lower level; and additional dining and lounge space on the upper level. All spaces have a direct relationship, visually and physically, to the outside, taking advantage of the extraordinary climate and views to the foothills and the ocean. Envisioned as a transparent building – the west façade of the project is a plane of glass fronted by a dynamic screen wall – balancing the need for views and visibility with the need for sun screening, light control, and natural ventilation. The more sculptural east façade expresses the functional massing of the interior program elements and became a backdrop for the campus softball stadium and field, also part of the project. The new aquatic center occupies a site previously occupied by four tennis courts and spectator seating. The design links the new aquatic center to the existing Sunset Canyon Pool, additional tennis courts and the Sunset Canyon arrival circle and entry. The project achieved LEED™ certification equivalency due largely to the fact that the facilities are almost entirely naturally ventilated. St. Edwards Pastoral Center Dana Point, California The project design includes a new pastoral center and re-imagined entry for the existing church – in support of the growing parish and community outreach needs of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. The hillside location provides opportunities to take advantage of ocean views, daylight and breezes, but also requires a sensitivity to the residential area surrounding the church. The configuration of the new pastoral center and facade enhances the presence and importance of the church building, and is conducive to fellowship gathering before and after mass. The 27,000 SF pastoral center houses formal and informal gathering areas for worship, education, and quiet contemplation for a variety of parish and community groups alike. Church offices and support spaces are located on the second floor of the pastoral center. Additional ministry spaces, including those for music, youth and meeting are located in a lower level opening directly to a new court on the ocean side of the center.

AVA Little Tokyo Los Angeles, California The mixed-use project consists of a 8-story residential apartment mid-rise with 104 units. The building contains 5 levels of Type III construction over 3 levels of parking garage. The ground floor contains 14,708 SF of retail space and contributes to the redeveloped urban fabric of downtown Los Angeles. Residential amenities include a building lobby, leasing office, fitness center, DIY space, and bike repair and storage facilities. A rooftop deck provides dramatic city skyline views, seating, a fireplace and a bar. AVA Little Tokyo achieved Gold certification under the LEED for Homes Mid-Rise rating system. The complex provides the residents with a healthy and energy efficient place to call home.
