Ex plor ing the healing power of na ture and archi tec ture through i t s mar r iage of ma ter ial and sus tainabili t y. Redef ining the healing essence evoked in a space to crea te guiding design pr inciples tha t can be es tablished and tes ted in an ur ban set ting. I t will crea te a place for the human mind to par take of the essence of na ture’s healing power on the d weller. Interac ting wi th na ture sepera ted from societ y, yet involved in an ur ban environment becomes the challenge. Reaching the inf ini ties of healing through a life process to ser ve as a tipping point wi th archi t ec ture and disengage you from dr ug and alcohol addic tions. Crea ting a sy nergy bet ween na ture, ma ter ials, addic tions, and healing. My goal is to crea te a space w here people af f lic ted by var ious addic tions may be healed through this t ype of renewed connec tion.

The comprehensive building design s tudio was a senior year undergradua te group competi tion. The program of the projec t was to crea te a visi tor center for the Depar tment of Homeland Secur i t y. Our concept was through the or igina ting word, or ienta tion. Or ienta tion is developed through the for m and pa ths of the visi tor center, crea ting moment s wi thin dif ferent element s of the landscape. These ex per iences der ive from the visual and physical connec tions to ear th, wa ter, and sk y. Through these connec tions, a s trong remembrance of the 911 event s are developed as there is a ref lec tion wi th the pas t, ou t of reach, and ou t of si te; tur ning into a new, br ighter, and hopeful fu ture. My role for our group was lead design and responsible to genera ting the f inal presenta tion dra wings and physical model.
