Stainless Steel Stainless steels contain 10 – 20% chromium and are highly corrosion resistant. They can be classified into Austenitic – non-magnetic and nonheat treatable (kitchen equipment) Ferritic – magnetic but cannot be treated with heat. Martensitic - Magnetic and heat treatable steels (cutting tools, surgical and dental equipment)
