I have always believed that everyone has the capacity to be entrepreneurs. Every time we work on something that we really want, we are in essence, investing our time and effort to create something. Income and salary is the net profit of our efforts. One of the toughest parts of the job, even for veteran entrepreneurs, is the conceptualization of new money-making ideas. Hours are spent on research to find out what ideas will work. Fortunately, with each new technological development, new opportunities come forth. A good example of innovation is the combination of video conferencing and teaching. You can now train a person on the other side of the world on virtually any subject. It’s not just training; tutoring, seminars, and coaching can now be done remotely. The more specialized the knowledge being trained, the higher the fees that can be charged. Individualized training is the most expensive as compared to seminar or large class types which can even be free. Coursera.org is great resource for fee online training. If you plan to take on students for mentoring, make sure that your knowledge of the subject matter is at the professional level. You won’t get any regular students if the students don’t learn anything useful from you. Take online language teachers as an example; the best teachers are often the native speakers of the subject language. Some of the more popular remote mentoring jobs, besides language coaching, are
academic subject tutoring, cooking, and fitness coaching. It may sound strange to be taught cooking or be coached on fitness remotely but it’s usually cheaper for the student in the long run. This is because a lot of the teachers are from off shore and charge less because of this. On the other end of the spectrum are the people who are doing online product demonstrations. These are some of the easiest topics to teach and a lot of times manufacturers will just use pre-recorded video. Teaching on short subject materials might be a less than ideal start for a home business that makes money. Aside from subject matter knowledge, the method of communication needs to be organized and reliable. There are many tools available that can be used for coaching purpose, namely: webcams, chat programs, and screen share programs. You will need to invest on good head sets and webcams. These two items are very important if you want to look very professional onscreen. This same also goes for the internet connection, the better and faster the connection, the smoother the broadcast and teaching session. A nice quiet room that’s free of distractions is a must. A quiet coffee shop or shared workspace is fine for subject matter that doesn’t require any special equipment to be set up. For those that do, a dedicated space for teaching and demonstration is needed.
One critical component of mentoring or coaching services is feedback. A student should be able to rate and provide his feedback on the effectiveness of the lesson, the instructor and its delivery. These are important pieces of information that will help improve the overall performance of the business.
