Keywords are the foundations of an SEO campaign. If you’re aiming to dominate the search results for a specific niche or topic, then you need to research for the key words that your target audience uses. An SEO keyword tool can get you keywords that you can use for your site’s content. There are several of these tools online. Their most basic function is to give you the amount of traffic and competition for a specific keyword. The paid services usually have more in depth reporting features. A good analogy for what an SEO keyword tool does is to compare it to a magnifying glass. This tool allows you to zoom in on niches and find the information that customers would want to see.
Keyword Research There are many strategies on how to get the best keywords to use, but everything begins with choosing your niche. A niche can be chosen based on the size of the potential market available in that niche or on the nature of business you engage in. Although the example I used didn’t turn up any useable results it did give me 2 additional candidates for my list: “car dealerships in manhattan” and “manhattan car dealers”. Both have high competition but more importantly they have an average monthly search of 1,300. That’s potentially 1,300 interested car buyers in Manhattan. Since your goal is to get traffic from these interested buyers, you can now plan my blog post based on these keywords. The article should include these terms in the right number and location to help optimize it for the search results. Your knowledge of On-site SEO will be very useful at this juncture.
The longer the search term, the lesser the search competition but with higher levels of interest. Keep Researching & Revising Your list of keywords won’t be permanent. You will keep adding more competitive search terms and probably remove those that are no longer useful for you. Other search terms may become useless altogether due to lack of traffic or increased competition. A good SEO keyword tool will keep you updated on this. What’s important is you get started on a list that’s relevant to your target niche. Think of this list as a rough sketch of your plans. It will get streamlined and fine tuned overtime, but as long as you have a list of keywords then you can focus on writing content.
