If you’re in the habit of starting things but have a poor record of finishing them, you’re not alone. A lot of people are great at starting something new. However, there’s a tendency for them to lose enthusiasm and focus if some time passes without seeing any results. A lot of the most successful entrepreneurs have the same “problem”, but instead of treating it as a weakness, they use it to their advantage. They push themselves when their enthusiasm is at the highest point and take steps to sustain it. Not only do they focus on setting their business up, but they have a clear end goal in mind. Whenever a great idea forms in our mind and takes hold of us, our focus and energy levels spike up. Our enthusiasm builds up and we want to get everything up and running. We want to see if our idea would work and we want to see the results as soon as possible.

If the idea doesn’t require a lot of effort to implement, then it won’t need much time to learn if it can work. Maybe you want to tweak your email campaign, design a new ad, or maybe offer your products in a new marketplace. These small tasks are easily completed and yield immediate results. Bigger projects, like setting up a new business, takes more time and effort before you can start reaping rewards. This is where a lot of would-be entrepreneurs fail. Their drive to succeed tapers off because of the time it takes to reach their goals. It’s sad to see a lot of failed start-ups and home businesses just because the owner suddenly lost interest. Here are a few tips on how to consistently finish what you set out to do: Ask for help. Get someone to help you out by tracking your progress. A coach or a mentor can do this for you, but if you just want help you stay in focus, you can ask a friend or colleague to check on you from time to time. You and your buddy can review a list of what you’ve accomplished towards your goal. A buddy can help you stay focused and on track. Work on your project first at the start of your day. Make it your first priority and work on it at the most productive time of the day for you. Do as much as you can while you can maintain your focus. List down what you’ve accomplished on a daily basis. It’s always heartening to know how much progress you’ve made. You can use applications that are designed for this type of activity or go the old fashioned way and write it down in a notebook. Whatever medium you use, make it a habit to write and review. Sometimes we just need to see how much progress we’ve made to keep our enthusiasm up. Clearly visualize your end game. What do you want to achieve? What are your non-negotiables? What benefits do you expect? If you don’t have a clear goal, then it’ll be pretty hard for you to measure progress and success. This lack of personalized vision is common with a lot of would be online entrepreneurs. Either jumping on a bandwagon, or haven’t concretized their own goals and had someone dictate what it’s supposed to be for them. end goal

Not everyone has the opportunity to launch an online business. Those who have the resources and skills can ensure their enterprise succeeds by focusing on the present while keeping the future in mind.
