INDEXING TERRITORIES Site Vasai, Maharashtra, India Teamed with Gabriela Pulido Tutored by Alfredo Ramirez Clara Oloriz Eduado Rico Duration 2 weeks

Vasai, Maharashtra, India As been constructed based on three types of major facilities (religious and origin, commercial and entertainment and, industry), Vasai can be seen separately as three relevant parts, which are constructed by both traffic and movement above. To know more about the territory, I concentrated on movement on traffic which is effected majorly by facilities and traffic itself, to capture and represent connection and system as a city.

Residential Area Vasai, Maharashtra, India Residential area in Vasai is a very religious system linked up by temples and churches. Grouped communities actually connected with each other into a bigger one which is surrounded by agricultural farm next to the sea-coast.

Industrial Area Vasai, Maharashtra, India Taking advantages from the natural sea resources, Vasai’s salt pans play an important role contributing to local industry. Transportation on product and goods rely on traffic which has unity and coherence. This requirement reflects in Vasai’s triangular, truck based traffic system.

DIGITALLY FABRICTED CITIES Site Vasai, Maharashtra, India Technique Fibonacci Growth Teamed with Shaodong Yang Tutored by Eva Castro Alfredo Ramirez Clara Oloriz Eduado Rico Duration 2 weeks

Vasai, Maharashtra, India

Ponds as water resources in Vasai are formed by both river and underground water, in which situation the water supply system was constructed into a radial way combined with a longer linear way. Massively taking fresh water from ponds as a living need was also a way this city was constructed. Yet, problem came up when a pond as individual water supply body met city expansion and, water pollution.

+

Studying on Fibonacci Growth provided an approach to form a vision with both circular and radial growth, in shape of a mass of spirals, formed not only paths but also area between. Spiral as a linear route can, as visioned, be a combination point to join two or more groups into a bigger one, gives more opportunities on group combination with a radial circulating way in an individual growth .

Meshing Water flowing from fresh water resources (ponds) to certain facilities use it will be piped out by drainage system, gathered and finally, going into water body (river/ sea). Finding circulation out of pattern itself gives more conceptional support to the city to, not only transport water in one direction, water can also be transported back, after certain decontamination, and be used again, to reduce the waste of water and also, the possibility of pollution.

Ponds, which are representing fresh water resources in Vasai, are taken as the start points of growth.

As the pattern growing on, facilities that are related with water use are revealed, which are also constructed into groups.

Fibonacci growth in each pond intersected into another gives us a bigger group, which gains connection between each facility and also, shows the main path that drainage is gathered.

Showing the possibility of being gathered and expanding, also considering of the usage of the water, these groups can be gathered in another Fibonacci way, or expand as well.

Zooming In & Conception Redevelopment Picture showing the zooming-in part which is the commercial and residential centre of Vasai, next to the industrial area. The process of water use can be seen separately as two parts of system which are Taking-in and Piping-out. Involved with the process of purification, these two system overlap to connect as one give a new efficient system to deal with water. If necessary, the refine system can be seen as one underneath, showing the refine level of water.

Model Making

ZOU YUJUN 2012.09-2012.12 LANDSCAPE URBANISM 25

Model Making The process of madel making involved a lot of fun and thoughts, on how to develop the idea of Grow Fibonacci, play with topography to create a vision from natural shape to man-made, to develop an idea into the third dimension, and that so another system underneath was formed, yet combined with the grounded one, going togather with a spatial relationship revealed by the gap, showing our development and thoughts on the meshing pattern.

SCRIPTING PROTOTYPES Site Pune, Maharashtra, India Teamed with Fusang Ren Tutored by Clara Oloriz Alfredo Ramirez Eduado Rico Duration 3 weeks

Pune, Maharashtra, India As a slum-packed area, Pune offers a huge amount of opportunities of working and group living, in which consideration, slum is an positive facility for living and communication as well. However, the lack of fresh water and covinient traffic system are on the other hand for dealing with.

New Meshing Base To go with the purpose of collecting water from both nature body as well as inside area, and to create a water ‘accessible’ landscape, water movement was formed as weaving along the whole area, with traffic system inside, to give a wide spread net-work, going into, but also can be taken out from the ponds through certain water path. And, according to the feed-back of the water net, road system, again, was adjusted, gives a more completed structure to the water net.

Pond-side and area between buildings can also be taken out as public space, formed as a linear green area along the whole site.

Pond Area can be taken as a ecological habitat while in dry season, water will shrink into far smaller one which can be turned into a park, for which reason we constructed another structure based on the pattern collecting water, to give more opportunity to vary the landscape.

As for the bigger open space, water flow system offered an approach to use the urban open space, island-shape was used in this case to purify the water as well as a urban landscape open space, connecting each group, making full use of the city space, and improving the urban river system
