Candidate Forum on April 16

from NW PA Pride Alliance NW PA Pride Alliance Inc and the Mental Health Association of Northwestern PA will be co-sponsoring a spring candidate forum at the Mental Health Association at 1101 Peach St, Erie PA on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 6:30 pm. Doors open at 5:30. Parking available on street and in Toni & Guy parking lot. Candidates for Erie City Council and Erie County Council will be invited. Candidates will be asked questions by a moderator and attendees are encouraged to provide questions for the moderator. The event provides constituents the opportunity to meet local politicians and to hear their views on topics concerning the LGBTQ, mental health, and Erie city and county communities as a whole. Light refreshments will be provided and the event is free and open to the public. If you are unable to attend, all candidates will be mailed a list of questions by the NW PA Pride Alliance and their answers will be published in the Erie Gay News, also available at www.eriegaynews.com and on www.nwpapride.org.

Presbyterians approve marriage equality

from More Light Presbterians Presbyterians on March 17 approved marriages for same-sex couples in the first-ever nationwide, grassroots vote on marriage equality by a faith tradition. The Presbyterian Church, USA now holds that marriage is between “two persons” rather than “a man and a woman.” Last summer, the PC(USA) governing body voted by a 71% vote to change the description of marriage, from between “a man and a woman” to “two persons.” However, the amendment required 51% of the 171 regional bodies called presbyteries to affirm the change. That threshold was crossed as 86 presbyteries voted yes. The tipping point vote was cast by Palisades Presbytery. The voting will continue through June until
