O
shkosh is Wisconsin’s Event City, but this vibrant community offers more than music festivals and special events. Oshkosh boasts some of the most interesting museums in the state as well as plenty of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. A visit to the EAA AirVenture Museum tells the history of aviation through a dazzling array of more than 250 historic aircraft and dozens of hands-on exhibits for children of all ages. The Paine Art Center & Gardens offers breathtaking horticulture and amazing artwork. This 1920s mansion features touring artist exhibitions throughout the year as well as their popular “Nutcracker in the Castle” (a retelling of the Nutcracker story using decorations, live musicians and ballet dancers) each holiday season. Just steps from the Paine is the Oshkosh Public Museum with more than 10,000 square feet of exhibits focusing on the history of Oshkosh and the Lake Winnebago region. The museum tells the story of early pioneers and European immigrants in the area. Built in 1883, the historic Grand Opera House in downtown Oshkosh is the oldest operating theater building in Wisconsin. The Grand hosts a variety of international, national and regional touring artists as well as a civic theatre company and the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra. During the summer months, entertainment moves down the street to the Leach Amphitheater on the Fox River. The Leach is home to two weekly summer concert series (Tuesday and Thursday nights) as well as a variety of programming on the weekends. Annual events include

Oshkosh Irish Fest, Oshkosh Oktoberfest, and the Brews ‘N Blues craft beer festival. While in downtown Oshkosh, visit our many unique shops and independently owned restaurants. The Shops at City Center features everything from an independent book store to the “best cookies ever” at Caramel Crisp & Café. For brand-name bargains, head to the Outlet Shoppes at Oshkosh where you’ll find 42 stores ranging from American Girl and Coach to Oshkosh B’Gosh and Under Armour. You’ll also find official Oshkosh and Winnebago County Visitors Information at our location inside the mall. Oshkosh is also the perfect place to spend a little time on the water. Lake Winnebago is known as one of the top walleye fishing destinations in the nation. Connected by the Fox River to more than 250,000 acres of waterways, anglers enjoy the pursuit of everything from bass and perch to northern pike and sturgeon. Lake Winnebago is home to many major fishing tournaments each year, including the world’s largest ice fishing

tournament — Battle on ’Bago. With seven public boat launches, Oshkosh’s waterways are accessible by powerboat, sailboat or kayak. On the shores of Lake Winnebago you’ll find Menominee Park with an interactive zoo and the “Little Oshkosh Playground.” It’s the perfect destination for families. Bicyclists love the WIOUWASH Trail, which runs for 16 miles from Oshkosh to the county line. And Oshkosh is working to complete our River Walk which will connect the WIOUWASH with the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh campus and downtown including the Oshkosh Convention Center and the Leach Amphitheater. Cool down in summer at the Pollock Community Water Park, complete with a kiddie pool, lap pool, lazy river and waterslides. Oshkosh is home to a number of golf courses as well as two disc golf courses including one at Winnebago County Community Park and another at Red Arrow Park.
