The Glencoe Mill Historic District is located on the east bank of the Haw River, about three miles north of Burlington, North Carolina. It is a typical well preserved example of the nineteenth centry industrial villages that once flourished in North Carolina’s Piedmont region. The district covers a little more than 100 acres and consists of three parts. 1) a manufacturing and commercial complex, 2) power and water system and 3) a residential and social unit. -National Regiser of Historic Place

The Glencoe Mill Project was proposed by the Preservation North Carolina to bring life and character back into the once mill village. For this proposal, I began investigating what commercial uses could serve the small community to help them thrive, and interest the public. This proposal began suggesting ample outdoor spaces leading to the waters edge, double story cafes, farmers markets, a salon, and other one off stores

This project was created as a competition in the studi. Each team competed for a design that the chancellor would examine and possibly create for the University to have fresh produce available for the student who lived on campus. The designs were then executed, and stood on campus for two weeks.

The North Carolina Sustainable Build and Design Competition, was based in Raleigh, North Carolina. The competition was to create an independent living duplex, that would be an addition to the existing campus. Each duplex was required to have two bedrooms and at least one and a half bath, with a den. The fourth year studio split into several groups, each team was made up of 4 students, my partners were McKenzie Gates, Alissa Hamalainen, and Megan Harris.

This studio was led by Greg Snyder. The exploration was to use only parts found on aisles five and six as well as aisles thirty two and thirty three of Lowe’s to make a lighting construct that would be installed to our studio desk. These supplies consisted of plumbing fixtures, pvc pipe, and conduit.

Urban Eatery

Urban Eatery was a proposal for an Urban Design studio. With a predetermined site, in uptown Charlotte, North Carolina, we were instructed to create a unique program that would play off of Learning from Las Vegas. This investigation looked at how to populate Uptown with extreme diversity. One contraint was to keep any existing program that was on the current site, for example, this site housed a newstation, which played a role in the program.

In the investigation the sites proximity to SouthEnd, and unique food options, my partner and I created a satellite studio for a culinary school that would allow options of eating student prepared. Also because Southend does not have a hotel we proposed a hotel, therefore giving tourist a “taste of Charlotte. This would allow an area were people could be outdoors and hang out while waiting for the light rail.
