t’s one of the area’s biggest parties – with shopping, fashion and makeovers – and it’s all possible thanks to a major national retailer. Belk has partnered with The Fayetteville Observer for a second year to boost Ladies Night Out’s status as one of the region’s premier events for women. The relationship benefits both the event and the North Carolina based department store. “We are very proud of the fact that we were asked to be the lead sponsor

of the event,” said Joel Johnson, manager of the Fayetteville Belk store. “To have an event like this with fun, comedy and guest speakers - you are able to go out to the people rather than them come to your store … It’s a mutually-beneficial event.” Belk brings clothing, jewelry and fragrances to the party, as well as a fashion show and participation in on-stage makeovers. Johnson said the event matches Belk’s creed perfectly. “It fits in with our image of ‘Modern

Southern Style,’” he said. “It ties right in with our goal of bringing the fashion-forward customer that Southern style.” Carolyn McLaurin, The Fayetteville Observer’s retail sales manager, said Belk’s mission matches that of The Observer. “We are a family-owned business with regional appeal, and Belk is a North Carolina business with national appeal,” McLaurin said. “Their commitment to the local community is the same. “Ladies Night Out was created as an opportunity for our female readers and other members of the community to come together and have a good time, and even get a little education about fashion,” she said. Belk is sponsoring a shoe showdown, awarding a prize to the lady attendee with the wildest footwear. Belk will also have prize giveaways – including handbags and shoes from major designers. Johnson said Ladies Night Out gives his company a chance to interact with women who may not be customers. Belk plans on having something for everyone. “We are bringing Belk. It’s an outreach opportunity for us,” Johnson said. “This gives us an opportunity to reach out to the customer who may not know what all we carry in the store. “We have a diverse group of models of every shape and size, and our products will reflect that diversity,” he said. “There are no sales pitches, no quotas to meet, it’s all about having fun.” F R I DAY, JU NE 20, 2014 • PAG E 7

Three lucky winners will get a whole new look! Don’t miss their debut on-stage at Ladies Night Out. Three contest winners will undergo an on-stage transformation to put some confidence back in their steps and show off the latest hair and makeup trends.

The Ladies Night Out makeover – always a fan favorite – will take place on stage and feature work from Pompadour Salon, Venetian European Spa

and Salon and the Belk Salon. Dash of Chic Boutique will provide the ladies’ new wardrobe. The recipients of a makeover applied online and were selected based on both their look and story. They received a consultation and hair color prior to their onstage appearance. Eli High, of Pompadour Salon, said she is excited to provide a new

“This is an amazing opportunity, especially for someone who ‘wants a new me.’” High said. “I’m honored to be a part of it. When she came in here, I said, ‘this is all about you.’ This has got to be what she likes or what she wants – not for me or for the salon.”

Joel Johnson, the manager at the local Belk store, was one of the few men in attendance at LNO last year and saw the energy surrounding

High also says the audience at the event will benefit from watching the metamorphosis take place. “There are going to be people there who are able to relate and say,’’ wow, I’m going to talk to

the makeover – one reason his store’s salon is supporting the event. “I got to see how excited everyone was about the makeover,” he said. “It’s just such a fun night.”

OUR LUCKY WINNERS ROSE DINNEEN “SGT Rose needs a makeover! I am a soon to be veteran retiring with 20 years of active duty service. I think I might need an update to my look so I can enter this new chapter of my life.”

DEBRA ALLEN “I am a 53 year old veteran who is looking for a new me!”

ROSY ARREOLA “I seriously need assistance with style. I have been stuck wearing the same old slacks and blouse for work, and jeans and a t-shirt every other day ... I get lost trying to figure out what shoes go with what! I need help!”

Marino said. “It will be a great experience, and the ladies can have a good time.
