PEPPER CANYON OPEN SPACE PRESERVE AND EAST RIM TRAIL
UC San Diego’s Pepper Canyon was transformed by the implementation of the MCTC trolley line. To facilitate the growth of public transportation in San Diego, UC San Diego agreed to provide access through this sensitive canyon. The disruptions of the infrastructure necessitated a large-scale landscape restoration effort which covered several acres of sloped canyon land. Additional ancillary improvements included the East Rim Trail bicycle path, a large bioretention area, pedestrain trails and furnished, informal seating areas. Hundreds of trees and native plant species were selected to be planted in this canyon based on careful coordination with the campus fire marshal, maintenance and facilities services personnel, irrigation specialists, and MCTC. Working carefully with civil engineers, contractors and campus stakeholders, we delivered a coordinated set of plans that allowed for the successful implementation of the landscape restoration and improvements project. The pages in this portfolio demonstrate the careful planning process that allowed for the project to come to fruition. Built images are also included throughout the following pages.
