Help a Librarian We’re looking for responsible and enthusiastic teens that can help a Children’s Librarian during the programs for first and second graders. BLOSSOM TREES: March 12th at 4:30pm for children in grades K-3. Children will use oil pastel and sponge painting to make a spring landscape. Registration begins March 2nd.
LEGO CLUB: March 18th for grades K-6. Build and create with Legos. Materials will be available to build creations. Stop by anytime between 2:00-3:30pm. Registration is not required.
TOTS NIGHT OUT: March 14th at 7:00pm for families with children 18 months-5 years (not yet in K). Register beginning March 5th; activities, music and a weather craft. APRIL - SCHOOL VACATION
ALLEY POND ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER: A representative from the center will present 2 different programs on April 9th. At 11:00am, children age 2-4 and caregivers will learn about, see and touch a snake, lizard, rabbit, dove and other small animals native to Long Island. Limited registration begins March 30th. At 12:00 noon, children in grades K-6 will experience the program (parents are asked to wait in the children’s room). Registration begins March 30th. THE BIGG SHOW: April 11th at 11:00am. Trent Arterberry will be here to entertain children in grades K & up with his storytelling, mime, music and puppetry show. No registration; held in multi-purpose room.
AN AMERICAN TAIL: April 13th at 2:00pm, the movie An American Tail will be shown for children age 4 & up. Fievel, a boy mouse journeys from Russia to America seeking a new life. Lost at sea, he washes up in New York and begins an adventure to find his family. Rated G. No registration.
LULLABIES FOR BABIES: April 17th at 6:30pm for caregivers with babies age 0-24 months. Dara Linthwaite will conduct this lullaby program of soft music and gentle fingerplays to relax baby before bedtime. Registration begins April 5th.
PARENT/CHILD 1, 2, 3 We are a Family Place Library and will be offering a 5-week Parent/Child program this spring. The (5) classes will be held on Fridays from 10:30-11:30am for children age 1-3 years and their caregivers, beginning April 20th. Each week will consist of playtime, activities, circle time and an opportunity to meet other parents and professionals in child care. Registration begins April 2nd. Toddlers presently registered for Toddler Storytime and families who have already attended the program are not eligible.

Georgia O’Keefe’s first memories were of light sitting on a patch work quilt and the feeling of warm, soft ridges of earth made by the wheels of buggies-Ms. O’Keefe at an early age has a sense of color and shape. This slide show/lecture will focus on the fearless, modest woman and her own highly refined, slightly removed Art. All are welcome to attend.

We will be welcomed to the newly renovated New York Historical Society on Central Park West in the morning for a Highlights tour of this magnificent museum. Then, the bus will drop us off on 59th Street and 3rd Avenue and we are on our own to visit Bloomingdales and/or eat lunch at one of the many restaurants in the area. We will meet up at 2:30 PM at 421 East 61 Street where we will step back in time and take a guided tour at the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum and Garden Constructed in 1799 as a carriage house and converted into a hotel in 1826, the Museum transports us back to a country escape for New Yorkers living in the crowded city at the southern tip of Manhattan in the 18th century!. Our first stop is Stonecrop Gardens, formerly a private residence and now a spectacular collection of gardens We will have a guided tour and though we might not see the entire 12 acres, there will be lots of walking so please wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to enjoy a wonderful day! Lunch will be in the charming town of Cold Spring, right on the Hudson River. Main Street is filled with antique shops and many restaurants for you to choose from. After lunch, we will experience the domestic life of one of New York’s most prominent families living in the years just after the American Revolution. We will have a guided tour of Van Cortlandt Manor which contains furnishings from the colonial and federal periods. What a wonderful day. Registration begins on April 2. The fee for this trip is $45 checks only payable to Merrick Library.

Wednesday, April 18 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Ofra Levins will return with a new project to share. Learn how to do a simple pattern to create a stunning Victorian looking necklace using fresh water pearls in your favorite color. There is a $5.00 fee for this program. Registration begins March 14.
