August & September Service Hours Will Be Affected

July 18th - Little Failure

One of the most acclaimed books of 2014, Gary Shteyngart’s Little Failure is the Russian-American author’s brilliant and entertaining memoir of his early childhood in the Soviet Union, and his adolescence and young adulthood in the (even more bewildering) United States. The New York Times writes, “Little Failure gives us a visceral sense of what it was like to be uprooted as a child from the monochromatic world of the U.S.S.R. and plunked down in 1979, in the perplexing and gloriously Technicolor world of the U.S. of A. Moderated by Peter West.

August 15 - Orphan Train

Orphan Train is Christina Kline’s engrossing recounting of the so-called train that ran on a regular schedule from the cities on the east coast to the farmlands of the Midwest between 1854 and 1929. The train was arranged for by The Children’s Aid Society where thousands of abandoned children were put up for adoption across the country. This is a tale of resilience, upheaval, second chances and unexpected friendships. Moderated by Edna Ritzenberg.
