STINESVILLE
Incorporated in 1855, this quaint small town is located 14 miles northwest of Bloomington near Ellettsville. It was once at the center of the thriving limestone industry, evidence of which can still be seen as you drive along the winding country roads through town. Be sure to visit in the fall when the annual Stone Quarry Festival takes place and make sure you stop in the Mercantile of Stinesville, a historic 1800’s building offering groceries, convenience items, fountain soda, a restaurant, and a post office.

This town is also close to Monroe Lake —if you are on your way to the Fairfax State Recreation Area , make sure to swing by the Smithville Saturday Farmers’ Market for fresh produce, plants, and live music. If you’re visiting on Labor Day, stop by the Smithville in the Park Labor Day Car Show where you can admire classic cars, hot rods, and more. The annual Smithville Holiday Bazaar in November is a great way to get a jump start on your holiday shopping.

Guys GETAWAY
Day 1
Bloomington’s known for its unique restaurants. To kick off your guys getaway try one of these popular places. Crazy Horse has drink specials every day of the week, a huge menu of classic American pub food, a full bar, and over 100 beers. SmokeWorks specializes in southern-style barbecue platters and has over 200 whiskeys on the menu. Nick’s English Hut is a favorite for both locals and alumni. Enjoy the famous Nick’s Stromboli, a game of Sink the Biz, and check out the collection of memorabilia on the walls.
After dinner, enjoy a night of friendly competition. Head to The Video Saloon or Bluetip Billiards for pool, the Orbit Room for pinball, or The Cade for classic arcade games and pinball machines.
Day 2
Start the day with a hearty breakfast at one of these local spots that serves the coffee hot and eggs just like you want them. Cloverleaf has two locations and serves everything from French Toast to Breakfast Casserole. Cozy Table has a huge menu so everyone in the group will find something to enjoy. You’ll find biscuits, omelets, skillets, and more at Good Morning Breakfast House.
In the Spring, hit the links at The Pfau Course at Indiana University, ranked in the top 100 golf courses in North America. With three lakes, water activities abound in the Summer. Reserve a double-decker pontoon at Paradise Rental Boats on Monroe Lake or rent canoes and kayaks at Griffy Lake Boathouse. Fall is for football! Grab tickets to the game and spend the day at Memorial Stadium to cheer on the Hoosiers, or if you feel the need for speed check out Bloomington Speedway, a quarter mile dirt oval. Nothing better to keep you warm in the Winter than enjoying a premium cigar at the lounge at The Briar & Burley.
Wrap up a great afternoon with a delicious dinner at one of Bloomington’s many fantastic restaurants. Just on or near the Square is Che Bello, serving your favorite Italian dishes. If steak is what the group is craving, then Janko’s Little Zagreb is a must. If adventurous dining is on the agenda, The Elm, which has unique seasonal menus should not be missed.
After dinner, choose from over twenty bars downtown. From live music at The Bluebird, to college vibe at Kilroy’s Sports Bar, or the laid-back atmosphere of The Blockhouse Bar, there are so many options to choose from that you can’t go wrong. There are plenty of places to catch the latest games late into the night while sipping on spirits. Brothers, The Tap, and Yogi’s Bar and Grill all offer a full bar and plenty of TVs broadcasting various sporting events. For a late-night bite, have Pizza X deliver pizza and breadsticks to your accommodation. It’s hard to choose between their three dipping sauces so might as well get them all.

INDIANA, WE’RE ALL FOR YOU!
Bloomington is proud to be the home of the outstanding athletic programs at Indiana University.
IU has competed in the Big Ten Athletic Conference since 1899.
IU athletic teams first started using the nickname Hoosiers in 1923 when the football team called themselves the Scrapping Hoosiers.
The 1971 Men’s Swimming and Diving team, led by Mark Spitz (eight-time NCAA and nine-time Olympic champion), is considered the most dominating NCAA team ever in any sport.
The Hoosiers have won 24 team national championships, including eight in Men’s Soccer and five in Men’s Basketball.
Legendary coaches Doc Counsilman and Hobie Billingsley outfitted swimmers and divers in candy stripes in the 1960s to better spot them in the pool, creating what would become an iconic design. Men’s Basketball began wearing candy stripe warm-ups in the 1971-72 season, their first in Assembly Hall.
Due to the loud student section, ESPN ranked Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall as the toughest place in America for visiting teams to play basketball.
Swimmer Lilly King was a 16-time NCAA All-American at IU, won six Olympic medals, and is one of the greatest female swimmers ever.
The 1975-1976 Men’s Basketball team won the NCAA Championship and went undefeated at 32-0 and are currently the last undefeated team to win a National Championship.
Fans can experience world-class collegiate athletic competitions every week during the academic school year from late August through late May.

LITTLE 500 WEEKEND ADVENTURE
Friday
The big weekend kicks off with the Women’s Little 500, starting at 4:00 PM at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The relay-style race has teams of four filled with IU students biking an adrenaline-pumping 100-lap race.
Wind down after the race with a delicious dinner. Head over to Lennie’s on Kirkwood for wood-fired pizzas or Yogi’s Bar & Grill to continue with the IU-themed experience.
SATURDAY
Set the tone for the energetic day by getting breakfast at Hopscotch Coffee, where you can grab a cup of locally-roasted coffee and a vegan donut. If you’re looking to start the party early, head across the street to Cardinal Spirits for a boozy brunch. If sleeping in is more your style, roll out of bed and stop by Soma Coffeehouse & Juice Bar on your way to campus for great coffee and a delectable treat.
Head over to the Men’s Little 500 starting at 2:00 PM. The men’s race is also relay-style with teams of four IU students biking a 200-lap race. You’ll want to arrive a bit early to find a seat in the stands behind your team. Keep an eye out for the notoriously speedy Cutters team, formed after the release of the 1979 film Breaking Away.
Saturday night after the men’s race is always the liveliest night of the weekend. You can relive the college glory days at Kilroy’s on Kirkwood, hang out with other IU alumni and play Sink the Biz at Nick’s English Hut, or enjoy your drinks on the Crazy Horse patio for a more laid-back night out. Wrap up the weekend by ordering Bucceto’s Pizza & Pasta or Pizza X for a chill night in.
DISCLAIMER: Indiana University Student Foundation suggests buying tickets in advance. One ticket is good for both the men’s and women’s race. www.iusf.indiana.edu

Cardinal Spirits has one of the best patios in town and offers cocktails, bourbon, and more. Friendly Beasts is a local cidery with many hard ciders to try and outdoor seating. In the Summer, spend the day on one of Bloomington’s three lakes. Enjoy paddleboarding at Griffy Lake, swimming at Lake Lemon, or a pontoon boat on Monroe Lake.
