Orange County Marathon By Jessica Shah “Bee-lieve and Achieve!” On Sunday, March 3, 2015, our local keyclubbers went to Costa Mesa to support the runners racing in the OC Marathon. Starting the job at 5 a.m., our volunteers got up to help set up for the water station and fill up cups with Gatorade to pass out to the runners. After the runners started coming in, half of our volunteers started passing out the cups for the runners to drink and the other half encouraged the runners by yelling words of motivation. Although there were some “messy” runners (they would spill the glasses on you because they were in a hurry), there were some sprinters whom stopped to give a high five or whispered a “thank you”, which made their day from their simple display of gratitude. After all the runners had past the water booth, they concluded the event by cleaning up the water and glasses that were displaced on the ground and the other cups that hadn’t been passed out. Aside from the early start and the wet sleeves, it was indeed a great day to be a key clubber! Walk MS By Kathy Woo, Tesoro Key Club Historian Cheering the participants on, Tesoro Key Club members volunteered on April 11th at the Walk MS event at UC Irvine. The members helped the event with fundraising to provide more MS research projects and raising awareness on MS. Tesoro high school's key club member, Emily Ambrosio, stated "The MS Walk for multiple sclerosis awareness was an inspiring experience that I was blessed to be a part of. Hundreds upon hundreds of people came to support loved ones who suffer."MS stands for multiple sclerosis which is an unpredictable and damaging disease to the central nervous system. The disease delays the transfer of information from the brain to the body. More than 2.3 million people are affected with MS worldwide. At the MS walk event many of those who were affected by this disease participated in the event's activities like the 1.5 to 3 mile walk. Families Forward Food Drive By Diana Hughes, Tesoro Key Club Member On April 25 and 26, the Tesoro Key Club was able to host a food drive for Families Forward in front of the Fresh and Easy in Lake Forest. The event consisted of having key club members asking kind individuals who were going into the market to purchase some of the listed items while in the store. No matter the response they received from the incoming customers, the key club members remained respectful and optimistic. In result, a substantial amount of donations were collected both days. Which were then driven by a key club member to the Families Forward Food Bank where it would then be processed and distributed to the local families in need.
