West Midland Medilink Innovation Award Scalp cooling device manufactured by Primasil Silicone and designed by the Product Design team at the University of Huddersfield wins West Midland Medilink Innovation Award in Birmingham, on 14 Jan 2016 The Medilink WM Medical and Healthcare Business Awards 2015 took place on January 14, bringing together business representatives, clinicians, researchers, and academics from the region’s medical and healthcare technology sector. The Medilink prestigious awards denotes excellence in a different categories including Start Up, Innovation, Export, Partnership with the NHS, and Outstanding Achievement. The annual Medilink West Midlands Medical and Healthcare Business Awards provides an excellent opportunity to bring together leading organisations from across the sector and celebrates the best achievements across the West Midlands region. The cooling system supplied by Paxman for cancer patients consists of a compact refrigeration system connected to a lightweight silicone rubber cap. Paxman Coolers ltd asked the academic partner, the University of Huddersfield and Primasil to improve the cap’s effectiveness, ease of manufacturability. The challenges include a new manufacturing methods creating a new silicone rubber formulation, the use of 3D printing technology for tooling and finding a new way to improve automation in production. On the night, there were different awards given out, including the ‘Innovation award’, ‘Partnership with the NHS award’, ‘Outstanding achievement award’ and the ‘Start Up award’
