The concept of this project was to design a modern residence with no more than 1,000 sq. feet. This design unfolded through simple sketches of lines that brought life to the symmetrical facade and cantilever detail. This project included construction documents in AutoCAD, Revit renderings, hand renderings and a final foam core model.

A monochromatic color scheme with a pop of color is consistent throughout the hotel. A floor with a thick black runway was designed to direct guests to their destination; whether that be to the front desk or the luxurious bench seating for a cup of coffee. A simple design of boxes on the side of the leading line consists of alternating white and gray porcelain tile. The floor pattern was designed to add movement and curiosity to the space. The black leading line continues on the back wall and through the seating areas to draw the eye upward, giving the illusion of a tall ceiling. Different textures are used in the space to add dimension and interest such as: velvet, wood, marble and glass. Behind the front desk is a display of brass tinted mirrored glass; an elegant, yet playful approach to a long wall. An ADA desk was designed to accommodate all our guests and their needs. PROJECT: Designed a boutique hotel lobby, suite and bath in an existing high-rise located in Silicon Valley. The project was presented to designer Colum McCartan through USU’s Visiting Designer Series.

SUITE

LOUNGE AREA The seating area in the bedroom suite is a stylish and comfortable space to relax and watch TV. The experience gained from this room is a standard set by sophistication and needs. When the two are paired together, the atmosphere of the room feels right.

Mary McDonald’s Vanderbilt pattern is a bold geometric linear design that is interpreted in a large scale, adding a modern sensibility to the room.

The BuzziTile 3D turns any blind wall into a must-see. The acoustical paneling behind the bed invites a warm and quite night’s rest for guests.

ACCESSORIES Lighting by Tom Dixon and Art by London artist, Chris Lessware, enhance the room with dramatic movement and color.

Designer Kelly Hola’s black lacquer and brass stripe cocktail table suits the lounge area perfectly. It functions as a work table, footstool, or a drink holder.

H OT EL BETA THE DESIGN The luxury bathroom starts with the highest quality of material that is designed to last. Daltile’s porcelain is used throughout the space to insure beauty and functionality with a slip-resistant finish. Brass fixtures from Kohler and brass tile help make the small space feel chic. The vanity is a custom design with Carrara marble on the top and alternating lacquered black wood and florescent lighting underneath. The use of the lighting and tile represent a runway inspired design. David Hicks pattern completes the design with a structured and playful twist in white and gray porcelain tile.
