We appreciate all the Members who participated in great July programming around The Club, as we hosted our July Member Mixer, Summer Movie Night, Jammin on The James, Glow Golf, and lots of crafts and activities at The River Pool. I would like to thank our entire Kingsmill team for putting together a great calendar of events and executing them proudly.

We also launched our new Member website in July, and we thank you for your patience and support as we keep building! Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any issues logging into the new site.

Did you know that between our Kingsmill Summer Camp, Junior Golf Camps, Junior Golf Leagues, and Junior Tennis Camps, we have seen over 400 juniors participate in summer programming this year?

August is a great time of year around The Club to celebrate as the last of our Junior Summer camps are finishing and summer winds down. Come down to the Marina to check out our new pontoon boat and jet skis, and get in that last summer ride! We are excited for our programming this month which includes Trivia Night, August Member Mixer, Member Mixology, Summer Movie Night, crafts and music at The River Pool, plus many Food & Beverage specials! Be on the lookout for further communication and details! We hope you can relax and enjoy the programming at The Club with your friends and families Thank you for being a Member, we look forward to seeing you around!

Agronomy Update

Jimmy Gabel | Director of Agronomy

Summer is in full swing and the Bermudagrass is loving life with the hot weather. We have been mowing all our Bermudagrass non-stop throughout this growing season We have recently applied growth regulator applications to the tee boxes, fairways, and approaches. This will help tighten up the turf canopy and will also aid us in less clipping yield and decreased mowing frequency. We also applied a wetting agent along with the growth regulator to help limit localized dry spots

With this hot stretch of weather, our Bentgrass greens need extra attention and care. Many of you will see our team out with hoses hand watering the greens. We use moisture meters to help us identify the areas that need water on a preventative basis so that we can limit any wilt on the greens You will also notice that our fans are running on select holes. We also recently purchased three gas-powered fans that we can move around from hole to hole as needed. Two of these are stationed on the Plantation course and one at the Woods. Greens in areas that have less airflow than others require these fans to help air movement Bentgrass does not like hot, humid weather, and the fans allow us to create an atmosphere that is more desirable to the turf.

We recently sodded select tee boxes on the River Course We selected Zeon Zoysia for the turf type Zeon is a fine-bladed Zoysiagrass that blends well with our existing Bermudagrass. It can also be cut to a low height so once it is established, we will be able to mow it at the same height as the rest of our turf on the tees. We also sodded a large portion of 13 green surround as well as select patches around some of the other greens with the Zeon Zoysiagrass thrives in the shade so it should have no problem growing in some of these shaded areas. Thank you for your support in all that we do, and thank you for being a Member!

GOLF RULES & TIPS

John Todd Gantt | Head Golf Professional, River Course

Club Face Control

Club face control is very important when it comes to hitting your golf shots long and straight Most players have an open club face at the top of their backswing which can lead to those weak shots to the right If you struggle with this, here is a great example of where your club face should be at the top of your backswing. See pictures below.

Checkpoints: 1 2

Be sure the cl oward the sky as shown in the second picture

If you were to e club face and your lead arm, both lines should be parallel to each other.

Thank you for taking the time to read our Golf Tips for August, and we look forward to seeing you out on the course!

I’ve and have two incredible daughters and three wonderful, wild grandsons. Family is what makes the world go round.

Why Pat became a Member

I moved to Washington, D C at the age of 20 and spent the next 42 years there trying to figure things out. I retired from Montgomery County Public Schools in 2014 where I worked in the Department of Energy Management then moved to Kingsmill where ‘The news is boring and I’m always early’!

What is your favorite thing about Kingsmill?

I love Kingsmill mostly because I have made more friends in the last nine years here than I did in 42 years in D.C. What a great place to live!

Favorite Vacation Spot

Besides being one of the most beautiful places on earth, Zion National Park has an energy about it that creates a quiet calming effect. It’s a great escape

Fun Fact

At my 50th high school class reunion I was voted least changed...They said I was still a misfit!!
