Welcome February Carolina Trace Country Club Fitness! February is American Heart Month The heart health is important for all stages of life The balance of diet, lifestyle, stress, and exercise has a major impact on our hearts Your heart is a muscular organ, it works hard to keep the blood pumping through the body; like our muscles, the heart requires movement and good nutrition (low sodium), to function and to function well Mindful and intentional actions will help us to succeed Remember: small actions make big changes!

To be more mindful of the heart, try to fit more movement into your day and be aware of your food’s nutritional value Below are examples on how to begin small and build up from there:

Park your car at the far end of a parking lot, so you have farther to walk to a building's entrance; Where applicable, switch to low-sodium items (i e broth, bread, soup, packaged items) or skip adding extra salt;

Choose the stairs rather than the elevator; Spend part of your lunch break walking; On bad-weather days, explore home workouts; Wake up a bit earlier to move or exercise before you start your day;

Use a wearable fitness tracker to count your steps Try increasing daily steps by 500 each week with the goal of reaching 10,000 steps per day, a CDC recommended level that can produce many health benefits;

Add in more fruit and vegetables; Explore the Carolina Trace Country Club Fitness Classes;

Establish a gym routine (30 min/3 days a week); Carry your water with you

With a combination of daily regular movement (minimizing a sedentary lifestyle), increasing food awareness, we can establish the unique balance that empowers us to stay on top of our health. Movement is medicine for the body, mind, and heart; keep on moving and grooving!
