No matter how black your thumb, or how much your apartment feels more like a closet, we have the know-how to teach you how to live just a bit fresher. Enter the micro-garden! Join our host Laena McCarthy, an avid urban gardener and micro-farmer, in this journey of discovering the art of small-time growing, city style Laena will cover all the techniques necessary to create and maintain your beautiful mini garden, such as plant selection and planting tips, design considerations, watering, and fertilizing. Laena’s joy for watching nature do its work is contagious, and with a bit of love, your seeds will grow into little gardens of your own too! SONG WRITING WORKSHOP

Discover the inner workings of an indie pop song with this incredible workshop featuring Max from the band Slenderbodies. You’ll get an insider’s look on the production of a future indie hit, and you’ll even produce your own song! Working with your group under Max’s guidance, you’ll choose samples, chords, and melodies that will come together to create your own song that you can jam out to at your next office party All the while, you and your team will hang out and talk music with Max and get to ask him questions about life as a singer and songwriter. This event can run as a single session, or if you’d like to dig deeper into the world of music, we can run a more in-depth, three-part series. Check out the song our team made here.

VISION BOARD WORKSHOP

Even as we exercise mindfulness and work on living in the now, why not dream big and visualize the future as well? In this hands-on interactive 60-minute session, you’ll lay out your dreams in front of you as you work with our host to design your very own vision board. You’ll learn some techniques for dreaming big, crystalizing ideas, and, most crucially, putting those ideas into action. The class will start off with a short meditation to get everyone in the right headspace for visualizing their future. Then it’s off to the drawing board (literally)! Kits are optional for this class; you’re welcome to purchase your own materials if you’d prefer OR we can do a fully/hybrid digital version of this class.

Learn about the colorful and mesmerizing art form known as Rangoli! Our Talented host will share information and fun facts about Diwali and this iconic art form while teaching folks how to create their own design using markers, paint and sand!

Laena McCarthy started Anarchy in a Jar in 2009, cooking in the wee hours of the morning, making jam in restaurant kitchens, borrowed through the kindness and generosity of her community Anarchy in a Jar is not a commodity, it's built around people growing, making, and sustaining real food ecosystems.

An international career in science support and academia ignited her interest in food, and she learned creative recipes from people she met around the world for preserved foods that were both tasty and healing Laena landed back in NYC and decided to make her passion for preservation into a business
