Marth a to Missouri to attend three meetin gs for h ome econo mists : St. Louis Hom e Economics Institute, Nationa l Catholic Council on Home E conomi cs, and th e 44th annual meeting of th e American Hom e Economics Association. St. Louis University Rev. Trafford S. Mah er, S.]., clean of edu cati on, li sted two objectives for th e first workshop: to exercise oneself in skills of group cooperation ; let th e group be responsible and be in ventive. Discussion and exchan ge of ideas devolved upon Christian fam il y li ving, specifically child care, food preparation , clothing, textil es, hom e furnishin gs and family relationshi ps. Missa Pro Pace Marks Fathe r Dillon's Ordinatio n Missa Pro Pace, by McGrath , was sun g by th e students' choir at High Mass to observe th e twenty-third anniversary of th e ordination of Rev. Gerald Dillon , college chapl ain. In hi s twenty- three years of pri es th ood , Father Dillon has had a fruitful apostol atc. Receivin g hi s A.M. from Catholic University in 1931, he tau ght Latin at La Salle Academy for a year before his appointment to St. Xavier's Academy as teacher of reli gion . from 1933-39. From 1939-42, Father was D ean of Men at Catholic University. H e served as Chaplain in th e U .S . Navy from 1942-46 wh en he b ecame Vice-Rector of Our Lady of Providence Seminary for a year, teachin g Latin and th eology. Since 1947, h e has taught th eo logy and phi loso ph y at Salve Regina College where he serves as chaplain , mod erator of th e Salve Reg ina College Guild, and mem ber of th e advisory board.

Former Stude1~tts Find Off-Carnpus Stt/dy Inspiri1~tg According to recent reports, th e Sisters studying in New York , Boston , and Notre Dame this summer, find that a variety of courses prove to be a source of great inspiration . Sister M. Nolasco and Sister 1\•larie Paulette, studying French at Fordham University, New York, are getting a practi cal knowledge of th e spoken language. Their cntirL '· .mversation elm :n g the tim e spent at French Institute must b e carried on in French. Courses in "La Renaissance" given by Processor F ernand Vial, and " Le Drame du XVJIIe Siecle" by Pere Pierre du Bourgoet, advance th e students in reading and appreciation of literature. Field trips include visi ts to th e United Nations and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. At Boston College Sister Marie Susanne takes courses in the field of Edu cation. The course in Psycholog y of Pe rsonality, given b y Professor Joseph R. Cautela, M.A. , is not only interesting but practi cal. It is th e study of abnormal b ehavior as a help to und erstanding th e normal , an invaluable aid to a teacher. Edu cational Sociology taught by Professor John D. Donovan, Ph. D ., covers a great deal of advanced knowl ed ge of social habits. Recent trips have been made by pup ils of this class to th e Boston Psychopathic Hospital and Kennedy Memorial Hospital for Mentally D eficient. Other Salve Regina students studyin g at Boston College are Sister Marie Sarah and Sister i\1. Albert. Sister M. Gervase finds inspirational thought in well advanced art courses given at th e University of Notre Dame.

Erica Morini, violinist, Robert Merrill , baritone, and Claudio Arrau, pianist, will appear on August 7, 8, and 9 respectively. T zincoca was praised by th e New York J-l eralcl Tribune as one hav in g "unu sually st ron g conductor talent." Erica 1\Iorini has toured th e United States and has fulfilled num erous orchestral c u gagcments. Miss Morini b egan h er studies at th e age ·of four and b efore h er eighth birthday had completed th e master's co urse at the Vi enna conservatory. Eight-year-old Erica Morini won h er first musical laurel in Li epzig. " One of th e greatest and busi est baritones of th e clay," Robert Merrill will b e featured on August 8. In a rev iew appearin g in Th e Hag ue, Claudia Arrau is described as "one of th e greatest amon gst th e great, a recreati ve and pianistic geniu s." At Moore Hall . . .

Spiritual Wisdom Aim of Renovation Group Participating in a 30-day retreat from Ju ne 29-August 10, twenty-three Sisters of Mercy are li ving at Moore Hall , residence of senior and junior college stud ents. Reverend Frederick Harkins, S.J., directs th ese Sisters in attainin g th e object of th e retreat, a strength ened spiritual life. Father ! Iarkin s is engaged in parish work in South Norwalk, Connecticut, durin g th e year. H e had form erl y been a teacher of ascetical th eo logy at Western College. In th e mornin g th e Sisters attend a class in moral th eology. Following thi s course is a study of th e Constitutions, and customs of th e Sisters of Mercy conducted by Sister Mary Audrey, R.S.M . Sister stresses th e p rin ciples and ideals of Moth er Catherine McA ul ey. In th e afternoon a second religion p eriod is devoted to th e study of th e general structure of th e four Gospels. Sisters j,4ttend Washington Workshop Sister 1\1. Emeria, R.S.M. , A.i\1. , H ead of Edu cation Department, and Sister M. Constance, R.S .M. , D.Ed., Dean of Students, attended the workshop on social sciences at Catholic Un iversity, Washington, D . C., June 12-23. Nine lectures on this phase of collegiate program planning were attended . In the evalu ation of "The Challen ge of the Social Sciences," the responsibilities of th e Catholic edu cator were outlined. The keynote of the general sessions was : "To restore th e world in Christ, we must first know th e world." Attending th e seminar on th e social sciences as fi elds of concentration, Sister M. Emeria heard di scussed the problems of curriculum building, the prepa rati on of

reading lists, and th e end and m eans of th e co mprehensive exa min ation . In th e breakdown of th e general session , Sister M. Constance attend ed a semin ar on the place of th eology in th e college curri culum of a liberal arts college. Thi s was a con tinu ation of a similar sem in ar held last year. Topics of interest di scussed were th e place of th eology in th e college program , th e dearth of suitable tex tbooks , and th e proper approach and presentation of the subject for th e lay student of th eology. At a third meetin g attended by both Sisters, anoth er seminar was condu cted at which college administration and th e duties of the vari ous admin istrators W<'l'< ' di sl' li S<iccl .
