CLASS PROPHECY Jt is the year 205 L, and as J sit by my canoe conn:ssion on the Ri ver Lethe flipping through a charred copy of 'Paradise Regained ' which 1 had neglected one hundred years before, the cries of " Extra, Extra, Read All Abom lt", reach my water-Jogged etrs. Who should approach my rocking chair bm Patricia Byrne sdling copies of her daily newspaper , The Asbestos Sheet'. Pat has been very active late ly d evoting her culinary ta lents to cooking classes. [ haven 't seen Pat in some time for in her spare moments she is composing her autobiography , 'HOW l GOT MY SECOND AND THIRD DEGREE--BYRNE' .

Before I could say "Jack Feeley ", she was gone, humming a chorus of "Home on the Range" , and I was left glaring at bold headlines , CLASS OF 195 L CELEBRATES CENTENNIAL ON CLOUD SEVEN, with a byline ragged Rita Belanger, a former foreign co rresponde nt for 'The Boston Pole' -now l remember- in 1960 Rita won the Pulitzer prize for her feature on the crash of the rice: patty market in China. As f scanned through the: names of my classmates at Salve Regina College, their familiar faces were caught in a whirlpool of memories.

Soon after graduation, Ann J\fcSweeney abandoned her pessimistic stand, and opened THE HAPPY HOLLOW REST HOME for retired circ us ciO\ms. Poor McSwee ney died laughing at one of her own jokes. Cherubim McSweeney was soon joined by J ea n Judge, who was offered a job that didn 't reguire experience and dropped dead from the shock. J ea n is now managing a placement bureau for in experienced harpists, gwm:nteeing them furnished clouds and all the angel cake they can eat. However, such short! ivee! careers \\'ere the exception rarher than the rule. Terry Walsh became the successful owner of a coast to coast chain of hurdy gurdys, equipped with singing monkeys, crooning their tal es of woe on the evils of evolution. Returning to her native land , Jane Murphy devoted her efforts ro teaching a band of leprechauns th e finer points of the French language. The last [ heard of Jane, she was still swimming across the Iri sh Sea in an attempt to escape the shillelaghs of her outraged co untrymen.
