Worker Sketches Aims And Accomplishments Of Friendship House Miss Muriel Zimmermann, a member of the staff of Friendship House, lectured on 'The Work of Friendship House' on March twelve at seven o'clock in the main dining room. Miss Zimmermann has been on the staff of Friend ship House for over three years, and has been connected with the Interracial Movement for about twelve years. Prior to joining the staff, she was with the National Catholic Community Service, and Catholic Charities of Newark . She has lectured on the subject of Interracial Justice throughout our East and Mid-west, and more recently in Paris, France, Florence, and Italy. The first Friendship House opened its doors on October 15, 1931, in a tumbleddown, red brick house at 128 Portland Street, in the slums of Toronto. It encountered hostility and suspicion, and its workers were ridiculed. Yet, in spite of these difficultie s, Baroness Catherine de Hueck, foundress of Friendship House, continued her work and was finally invited to come to New York City's Harlem with her staff workers. Past progress and the enth usiastic efforts of Friendship House members formed ·;·he basis of Miss Zimmermann 's address.
