Seniors Capture Spirit Of Class Day Plans; Baccalaureate Follows Class Day and Baccalaureate Sunday will be two of the many highlights that will be held at Salve Regina College on May 30 and June 1. On May 30, immediately ·i ollowing :he procession of the senior class and the sophomore laurel Chain hom Mercy Hall , Class Day will -formally open on \he terrace with the following traditional program of activities: Class song, Marilyn Mattox; address Patricia Fox; Presentation of College Banner to Freshman Class, loretta Ross; class history, Marjorie Ackroyd; doss prophecy, Patricia Thorpe; class will, Kathleen leonard; class ode, Catherine Mahoney. The dance by : he sophomore laurel chain bearers will bring to a close this portion of the day's -functions. The North-west section of the campus will be the scene of the final exercises of Class Day which will include :he planting of the tree, class oration by Claire McCabe, presentation of spade ~o .Junior Class president .Joan Devlin, ·i urning of the tassels, the college song, devotions :o the Sacred Heart and ·;·he recessional. Baccalaureate Sunday will open with a corporate communion at nine o'clock in the college chapel and will be followed by a Mass at eleven o'c lock in Saint Mary's Church . The procession consisting of the faculty members and ·ihe se nior class, will form in Saint Mary's Hall and will proceed ·;·o :·he church . The Baccalaureate sermon will be delivered by :he Reverend Gerald F. Dillon, llD., chaplain. The remainder of the day will be spent •Jt the college, where a parents' dinner at one o'clock will be followed by an e ntertainment in the great hall. Maestro Spinalski, Madam Van Slyke and Mrs. Martindale will render violin, piano and cello se lections. In \·he evening :·he ~e niors will form a lantern chain \·o sing parodies composed by the class. On May 31 the Senior class will be guests of Mrs. D. Sullivan of Shepard Avenue, Newport. Mrs. Sullivan is ·i he mother of Therese Sull ivan, a Senior.

Bishop Presidesi Fr. Smith Speaks at Commencement The Commencement exercises for the Class of 1952 will take place on the terrace at four o'clock Monday, June 2, when the Most Reverend Russel J. McYinney will confer degrees and the Reverend Ignatius Smith, 0. P., Dean of the School of Philosophy at Catholic University will be Commencement speaker. Father Smith whose home is in Newark, New Jersey, attended Catholic University as a student and later lectured in ·; he School of Philosophy until he became Dean in 1936. A

Graduates Toast Faculty, Friends, School At Banquet Following the Baccalaureate Mass on Sunday, June one, a parents-daughter banquet will be held for the seniors in the state dining room. As toast mistress, Miss Cath erine Mahoney will introduce th e seniors who will toast the members of the faculty , parents, the senior class, and alma mater. These seniors are as follows : loretta Ro ss, Patricia Sullivan , Claire McCabe, Mary Frances O ' Hare, Martha O ' Rourk e, Cynthia Smith, and Barbara Barry . The recipients of these toasts, Mother M. Hilda, R.S.M., President, Reverend Father Dillon , Sister M . .lames, R.S.M., Dean, and Sister M. Con stan ce, R.S.M., class advisor, will respond ·;o ·, hem.

well-known radio speaker, Father was President of the American Philosophical Association in 1938. "The Distinctiveness of Catholic Education " will be the general theme of Father's address. Th e faculty and thirty-six graduates will march from Mercy Hall ·io the ·;·errace headed by Reverend .John T. Shea, Marshal. Following the invocation by his Excellency, the Most Reverend Bishop, Reverend Gerald F. Dillon will extend greetings to the guests. Governo r Dennis J . Roberts of Rhode Island and Mayor Dean J. lewis of Newport will also greet the graduates and their friends . His Excellency will confer degrees as th e gradu ates are prese nted by the Reverend Father Dillon immediately after the commencement address by Father Smith. Wh en the Bishop has extended his blessing and addressed the graduates, the exercises will close by singing the Alma Mater song followed by the recessional. Music for the afternoon will be Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance as processional and the Triumphanf March by Verdi for the recessional. Awards for distinction in the History, English , French, Home Economics, Sociology, and Commerce De partments will be presented to students at the Commencement exercises. In the morning, the graduates will attend Mass at nin e o'clock with the Alumnae . A Communion Breakfast will be served at nine-thirty. The Seniors will be welcomed into the Alumnae at a meeting in the college at e leven thirty when ·the President, Miss Eleanor Testa ' 51, will preside . This is the annual meeting for the induction of th e Senior class into the alum nae association .
