AN EVENING BENEFITING
It’s my privilege to extend a warm welcome and a hearty howdy to Dear ESD Families and Friends,
It’s my privilege to extend a warm welcome and a hearty howdy to everyone here tonight. It’s a special evening at which we celebrate and support all that is extraordinary at ESD, starting with our community.
On behalf of the school, thank you to the many parents, teachers, staff, and friends who have generously donated your time, talent, and treasure to help create the resources required to ignite lives of purpose. Through your support here tonight, funds raised will help provide opportunities for our learners of all ages, including tuition assistance and professional development for ESD employees.
Special thanks to the ESDPA and our Auction Co-chairs, Caitlin Hyatt, Lauren Swann, and Katie Walton, ESDPA President Maria Link, and the numerous volunteers for all your efforts. Your spirit and your love for ESD inspire us all.
Enjoy the evening!
Onward and upward,
DAVID L. BAAD Hobson Family Head of SchoolWelcome to Gilley’s Dallas! We are so excited to gather together to celebrate one of ESD’s greatest gifts, our community. Our school is truly a special place, and we are honored to raise funds to benefit our students and faculty. All proceeds directly impact our beautiful children and the school we love. Have a wonderful time tonight, raise your paddles high and bid often!
This evening could not have been possible without the incredible support of our donors and underwriters, thank you! Additionally, we are so appreciative of our outstanding committee of volunteers who tirelessly gave their time and efforts. Last but certainly not least, a huge thank you to ESDPA President Maria Link, and all the ESD staff, particularly Mary Beth Weinberger, for their ongoing support.
It has been our pleasure to serve as Auction Chairs this year. Have fun tonight, and let’s continue to give back to this incredible community! Lovingly,

At check-in, guests will receive a bid number to use in the Raffle, Big Board and Live Auction. A credit card must be provided at check-in to bid on items. Accepted forms of payment are Mastercard or Visa.
To bid on Big Board items, utilize your mobile phone, click on the link you received at check-in, and the link will log you into the mobile bidding site. Your name, bid number, and table number will be listed at the top of your phone. Click on the items tab to view all items. To bid on an item, enter your bid number and then enter the minimum bid displayed or the maximum you are willing to pay for the item. Max Bidding allows you to place a bid for the highest amount you are willing to pay, and hold that bid without letting any other bidder know that there is a max bid set. The system will bid for you until the max bid is met. When someone else sees the item that has a max bid placed on it, they will see the amount that anyone has tried placing a regular bid on. If they try to place a regular bid, they will have a red note showing them the amount they bid is unavailable. No outbid text goes out to these bids because they instantly know they have been outbid. All sales are final.
To bid on Live items, raise your bid number or hand to be recognized by the Auctioneer. Once the Auctioneer says “SOLD,” the winning bidder must hold up his or her hand until the sale is recorded. The winning bidder will be presented with a bid sheet to sign and confirm the purchase price of the item auctioned. Your bid, oral or written, is a binding contract. All sales are final.
Auction winners must pay for all items before leaving the auction. All items will be available for pick-up starting Tuesday, March 7, at ESD in Mary Beth Weinberger’s office located above the Gill Library.
All transactions will be by bidder number. Items purchased, including vacation homes, trips and entertainment suites, are for adult or family use only and are not transferable. All items are sold as-is. All sales are final. There will be no refunds, returns or exchanges of items. Gift certificates are not redeemable for cash. All items are subject to the donor’s restrictions. Airline and trip arrangements are subject to availability. Where trips or special events are involved, dates must be agreed upon by both the purchaser and donor unless the date is clearly stated in the item’s description. Taxes and tips are not included unless specifically noted. Federal, excise, state and local taxes must be paid where applicable by the purchaser. All auction items must be used or redeemed by March 4, 2024, with no exceptions unless otherwise specified. Any dispute will be resolved in a manner designated by the auction mediator and the Parents’ Association President at their sole discretion. All decisions of the auction mediator will be final and binding on all auction participants.

Donald Judd is as synonymous with West Texas as he is with Minimalism. He moved to Marfa in the 1970s and created what is now The Chinati Foundation before his death in 1994. It houses the largest collection of Judd's work and is an international destination for art enthusiasts. Many are probably familiar with his iconic Stack sculptures. While Judd's were primarily created with iron, we chose to take something found in most Beginner through Primer classrooms, a wooden block, and create our own interpretation. The majority of Judd's stacks were made in 10 units, which just happens to be the exact number of classes on the Early Childhood floor. Each class in the Beginner, Pre-k, Kindergarten, and Primer grade levels helped to mix their ombre shade of blue, meant to represent the colors of ESD, and then painted a block to create this collaborative piece.
Dorothy Antoinette (Toni) LaSelle taught at Texas Women's University from 1928 until 1972 and established the university's Art History Program. Inspired by European Modernism and Abstraction, Toni was one of the first artists to bring these styles to Texas. She made a huge impact on the Texas art scene with her contributions both as an educator and a pioneering female modernist. 1st and 2nd graders looked to LaSelle's use of geometric abstraction through circles, squares, and triangles to create this suite of six gelli prints on paper. LaSelle is known for her exploration of color, and the students were able to choose colors and shapes that spoke to them to create a cohesive set of works meant to be hung together in homage to a great artist and teacher.
Robert Rauschenberg, who was born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas, is sometimes referred to as the first postmodern artist and is often credited with inspiring the Pop Art movement. His approach to art, known as Neo-Dadaism, questioned the distinction between art objects and everyday objects. In his Combine series (1954-1964) he gives found objects new life by bringing them into the canvas. 3rd and 4th graders were encouraged to find the beauty in the relics and everyday objects of the ESD community. After painting a canvas, they used mod podge to incorporate bits of fabric, photographs, pencils, and other objects to create a mixed media work of art that represents the beauty of everyday life at ESD throughout its history while paying tribute to one of the greatest artists to ever come from Texas.
